Fair enough. Going to be so weird seeing Nigel in charge of someone else. Just like seeing your ex girlfriend with her new boyfriend. Horrible.

It was odd hearing the poem he recited on Solent earlier on, then realising..we're not going to hear any of his inane ramblings anymore. Such a nice bloke, will be a big miss.

Do you not have a heart FFS ? He is Southampton FC. Everything about him is what we're meant to stand for. The bloke is a legend. My best times as a Saints fan by far.

An interesting sub-plot for Southampton fans is the potential summer arrival of talented Espanyol midfielder Joan Verdu, a creative playmaker widely regarded as the Catalan club's best player.

Verdu, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and has not agreed a new deal, with the club struggling to find funds to pay him as they seek to reduce their debts.

A host of clubs across Europe are known to be keen on securing his services for nothing in June. Considering his history with Pochettino, it's fairly safe to add Southampton to that list of suitors.

Considering we've been repeatedly told today that Espanyol sold all of their good players, I'm not sure this is particularly exciting?!

Just read that on the BBC website myself.

True. But we were on the decline under Strachan. We were going in the right direction under NA

I'm not quite sure where all the recent changes leave us in terms of transfers in or out, but it'd been announced that Birmingham have finally accepted they're miles away from the Premier League and in financial crud, and are now prepared to listen to offers for ANY of their first teamers. Butland, Burke, Redmond and Davies have all been mentioned on here in the past...

Random tweet of the night...

@Fuffell: If what I've heard down St Mary's tonight is correct; were in for a busy week and a bit,and our squad'll look a little different.. #Saintsfc

Hmm. Barcelona trip. Espanyol is in Barcelona. Some of his former players are out of contract very soon.

2 + 2 = 5?

Zarate going to Sunderland. Actually came away from the game thinking...we don't really need anyone? Possibly a wide player but surely Punch/Gaston/Lallana will play when fit, Guly looked very good last night, and although De Ridder is dreadful, he is quick and can be used for certain things.

Defence is looking very solid, and we're essentially looking at Hooiveld who has proved he is capable, as our 4th CB.

True - but from a wide midfield sense.

Mayuka's most effective game for us was wide on the right in the 4-2-3-1 vs Tottenham at St Mary's, changed the game when he came on and looked more effective than he did as a central striker. I do agree we could do with another attacking wide player though.

We definitely need another wide player - we had nobody on the bench who could make an impact and really only AL was missing in an attacking sense.

Agreed. We have no out and out winger who likes to play the flanks. Lallana is fantastic, but he cuts inside at every opportunity as does Puncheon. It's always Shaw and Clyne on the outside. We persist in playing DeRidder (who brings nothing to the table), but he's our only choice for a wide sub currently.

Ideal squad with quality replacement for every position:

...........................Boruc

Clyne..........Fonte.......Astori.......Shaw

....................Morgan...Biglia

Coutinho..........Ramirez............Lallana

.........................Lambert

......……..........Gazzaniga

New*.........Yoshida......Forren........New*

.....................Cork.......Jwp

Puncheon..........Verdu*...................Guly

.......................Rodriguez

Buy:

Right back (cover for Clyne)

Left back (cover for Shaw)

Astori

Biglia (Class ball playing def mid)

Coutinho (lacking in this position)

Verdu (Decent cover @ number 10 role)

Keep in squad:

S Davis

Chaplow

De Ridder

Mayuka

Lee

Exit: (either left or to leave)

Davis

Butterfield

Richardson

Seaborne

Fox

Dickson

Forte

Barnard

Above is in an ideal world but also reckon realistically, MP will be backed and wouldn't be surprised if another £20m was spent by close of window.

Up The Saints!

Rather have Lee playing than SDR, far more class on the ball.

Rather Chambers get time on the pitch instead too.

It annoys me so much De Ridder is getting any sort of game time ahead of these two, he's a useless footballer and it's embarrassing to think he has been involved in so many tv games now...

Surely TDD must have some contacts in that area and could find one for us?

Would be extremely harsh on Cork if he's dropped and we bring in Biglia.....What has Biglia done to prove he is so much better ? Cork has proved he makes a huge difference and him and Morgan have been playing alongside each other for 2 years now.

because these days it is squad game....as we can see with lallana out, de ridder is getting time...that is no where near good enough for this league
