The January 2013 HCDAJFU thread...

Why is Sunzu allowed to train with Reading this week when he doesn't even play for them & is in Zambia's ACOn squad yet Mayuka will miss our game with Chelsea being out in Africa?

Seems bizarre to me.

Because it's Zambia and he's getting a contract that will bring a Zambian club money I suppose. Be different if they tried to involve him for a game I expect. Anyway it's not as if Mayuka is likely to get a game with Saints is it

Definately seems like a window where teams are trying to buy their way out of the bottom 3. I wonder if a more stable team will be more beneficial than hoping players fit in. You obviously need depth but if you can keep people fit your current first 11 should be enough to keep you up. Would you be happy to see no signings if you were guarenteed your first choice 11 would be fit for every game for the rest of the year?

Yes, we'd be OK if we had our first team available in every one of our remaining 17 matches, Boruc first team I mean. If NA had played Boruc on a continual basis since his debut we might be on 27 points today. Won't happen though because right now at least Fonte and Shaw are going to miss games.

Vegard Fl. Vaagbo ‏@RBFlemma

Am told Southampton is a more likely destination for Vegard Forren, but this story will most likely take yet another turn :)

Reliable?

He is a Norwegian journalist and has linked Saints with Forren in this article published 30 minutes ago...

Zaha on way to man united

That should cement his place that he deserves in the England squad for the next 5 years.

I had people on here last year telling me he wasn't all that when it was obvious, to me anyway, that he was something a little bit special. I'd be very surprised if we hadn't tried to sign him with Clyne in the summer. Adkins knew exactly hoiw good he was. Perhaps £15m transfer fees put us off. Edited by Chez

My Forest supporting mate has said their Forums are suggesting they had a bid turned down for Danny Fox. If true, it remains unclear whether we're holding out for more money or do see him as a mid-term back up for Shaw. Personally I'd try and buy Olsson from Blackburn and sell Fox, if the chance arose.

How can qpr qfford 8m plus 70k a week, madness

Harry Redknapp a mere 3 weeks ago made this statement...

"You shouldn't be paying massive wages when you've got a stadium that holds 18,000 people. Newcastle holds 52,000 and most of their players will be nowhere near some of the wages some of the players are earning here."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20828024

And now this...

Queens Park Rangers are close to completing the £8m signing of Loic Remy after hijacking Newcastle's move for the France striker. The 26-year-old had been due to arrive on Tyneside for talks on Sunday night but did not appear.

QPR matched Marseille's asking price and have now offered Remy a more lucrative contract, understood to be more than £70,000 per week.

It's absurd but then the point they make about Newcastle being better off is probably true. Just another highly paid mercanery for the QPR sinking ship. Doubt he's going to be up for much of a dog fight. I also see he's not played much in the league for them or scored.

Cant believe Remy has chosen QPR over Newcastle, after already saying he didnt want to sign for them, and just because of money. Says a lot about the character and the club - wanting to sign players for 80k a week (along with the probably massive salaries for Park, Cisse, Granero etc) when they only get 18k to their home matches. Dont expect the ever so reliable team player and all round nice guy Cisse is too happy either. If they sign M'Vila too, surely their wage bill will be enormous?! Just comparitively, how much is Ramirez on?

Quotes from Redknapp just before Christmas...

"There are a lot of players at this club who earn far too much money for what they are; far, far, far too much money for their ability and what they give to the club.

"There are a lot of players at this club who earn far too much money for what they are."

"I don't really want to see the owners have their pants taken down like they have in the past. There's a lot of agents made money out of them.

"I fined a player last week and he was earning more than any player earned at Tottenham.

"You shouldn't be paying massive wages when you've got a stadium that holds 18,000 people.

"This club (Newcastle) holds 52,000 and most of their players will be nowhere near some of the wages some of the players are earning here."

Redknapp also confirmed that full-back Bosingwa had been fined a fortnight's wages after refusing to sit on the bench for last weekend's 2-1 victory over Fulham.

He said: "He didn't want to be on the bench and didn't want to be a substitute, so he went home.

"He has been fined two weeks' wages, £130,000. Not too bad for two weeks, decent isn't it? Not too bad for playing on a Saturday, it's okay."

Asked how he might handle a player like that, Redknapp said: "We'll find out in January."

Redknapp played down the likelihood of signing Newcastle striker Demba Ba, who has a £7m-release clause in his United contract.

Redknapp said: "We've not got £7m to spend on a player, I'd have thought."

Reportedly around 38K. Nothing in comparison to the ludricous sums being chucked around by QPR.

One minute Harry is criticising the club for paying players "way way too much money" only to go and sign players which he must endorse. I really hope they go down.

Perhaps Loic went to Newcastle and realised what a bleek, frozen, divesh*thole it is, not really suited to a bloke who's been on the Med coast for years. Lille and Newcastle have a lot in common, towns out in the frozen back of beyond but Marseille is a vibrant place.

I can! More wages + signing on fee + low relegation release transfer fee + new signing on fee + higher wages if he did well at QPR = many possible wins for the player!

I really don't know, Remy and Taraabt might make a pretty lethal duo, Taraabt isn't a front man but can provide good through balls and Remy is pretty darn quick. Boswinga is just an average player.
