The January 2013 HCDAJFU thread...

I do rate Graham, surprised he hasn't played this season as he looked very good for them last year.

Swansea are looking another striker though, can't remember his name, another young Spaniard perhaps, sh*t hot apparently.

Nope that's Arsenal, Swansea have enquired after Kenwyne Jones if you believe all you read.

would be immense going forward...but we will concede a bucket load

The only three changes in that team are a much improved CB (Astori), a new and highly rated GK (Butland) who is at least no worse than what we have and Puncheon replaced by Coutinho... so unless you think Puncheon is the answer to our defensive problems or our current GK's are saving us from losing points, how can your comment possibly be true?

Is Jamie Carragher worth an enquiry on loan (if he won't actually leave Liverpool)? He would undoubtedly add experience and leadership, esp in view of Jose's injury.

Surprised you haven't been shouted down for that one. I agree with you though, would be ideal short term.

What if Twente don't want Hooiveld and/or De Ridder? Do they not have a choice?

Why would Spurs or Stoke loan Dawson or Upson? In the summer Spurs only wanted to sell him and he has captained them this season.

It's easy to make these lists but in reality it's harder than just saying 'Get him, swap him for him etc'.

Well we will never know if we don't ask - plus it seems to be fairly common knowledge Upson wants out of Stoke and Dawson was in a similar position at Spurs in the Summer as AVB wanted to move him on.

There was also a rumour Twente were interested in Hooiveld - but like most posts on here its based largely on assumptions, rumours and conjecture.

I don't get the big fuss about Butland?

seen him play 4/5 times this year, looks over-rated and very raw.

the last thing we need is an inexperienced goal-keeper who's prone to making mistakes - we already have one

Not the sort of player I want us to sign, yet. I think he's going to be pretty good, but we'll just be having a deja vu moment if we signed him now.

On the subject of out of favour Manure players, Alex Buttner has hardly set the world alight. I know being not good enough for Utd doesn't nescessarily make you a bad player but he hasn't made a Prem appearance since matchday 4.

I'm not suggesting HCDAJFU, just something to remember next time we don't sign a target and people are outraged when he signs for someone else.

Inexperienced in the prem.

So what? Boruc has 46 international caps for Poland and has spent the last 2 years in Serie A for Fiorentina towards the top of a top European league. Before that he played in a number of European campaigns for Celtic. That should be more than enough "experience" to cope in the Premier League.

Give him a run of games (which he hasn't had yet) and he should (at least in theory) be more than good enough for us. How is goalkeeping in Serie A really that much different from goalkeeping in the Premier League?

I never said otherwise.

BREAKING news.SSN We understand West Ham have made an undisclosed bid for Blackburn's Martin Olsson

West Ham United have been rebuffed in their attempts to secure Martin Olsson after Blackburn Rovers rejected an offer worth around £2m for the Sweden defender.

A number of top-flight clubs are interested in the defender, who has been capped 14 times and featured in Sweden's 4-2 defeat of England in Stockholm last November, with the east London club first to make a move. Yet an initial offer has now been rejected with Rovers, who are 13th in the Championship and under the caretaker-management of Gary Bowyer, having apparently told West Ham that the player will not be sold.

That resolve will be tested again before the end of the month, with Allardyce now considering an improved bid. West Ham have already added Joe Cole and Marouane Chamakh and are keen to strengthen their team as early as possible in the current window.

Factually inaccurate. Perhaps you mean you would like a goalkeeper who performs better than the ones you have seen so far.

No I mean we lack a competent goalkeeper. Not one who's kicking is off or one that punches rather than catches, I mean we lack a goalkeeper that will not single-handedly lose us premier league points. This is the position that right now is our biggest threat to relegation if not dealt with.

Adkins showed loyalty to Kelvin after last season and his services to the club, with a young keeper as back up. Kelvin was conceding poor goals, so gazza was brought in, did ok but started to throw away points.

Boruc was brought in through panic as our keeping options were limited and he was a free agent. Right now Boruc looks the shakiest keeper we have and the only reason fans are willing to give him time is because one if his many spills has not resulted in the concession of a goal. If he spills another cross and is punished by villa with an important goal people will call for him to go.

Points have been lost through individual keeper errors, Swansea and Fulham are prime examples, and if it continues it will relegate us. So need is the appropriate term.

There is nothing available at a reasonable price that will get us over the slump, and lets face it even if we brought in Friedel a single dodgy parry etc would mean the ***ts in the Northam would be on his back straight away.

Boruc didnt even get a whole game for his debut before being ridiculed. Fwiw I think he currently looks our best option, not great no but certainly better than a poor Davis and an inexperienced Gazza. Added to this is what someone said the other day on here, I forget who, but basically there is now a culture of fear, a mistake could result in being dropped and that gets in players heads.

Reading signing Hope Akpan from Crawley. Have seen him a couple of times and he is decent at L1 level but imagine if we made that signing how it would be received on here :scared:

At least they have done it by the 8th though!!! Sometimes I wonder what's more important on here, quality or timing.

Gaetan Bong from Valenciennes,LB or occasional CB. West Ham are after him, really we should be looking at this sort of player, not too expensive and a fair potential because having watched Shaw closely on my DVD recording of Saturday's game he still has a lot to learn, just seemed to give up on every 50/50 ball, perhaps there were other reasons (see Muppet Show).

Is this guy valued at over or above €12m? If not then he is probably too cheap for us.
