The January 2013 HCDAJFU thread...

I thought you meant in the League as it is a fairer way to compare as that is completely subjective with the teams you play in the cup, for instance those additional goals were scored against Burton Albion (where he scored 4, 2 penalties and 2 in extra time) and Barnet. I wouldn't bring them up as it means nothing.

What I would say is that we already have a striker that drops deep to look for the ball, or pulls out wide. We need our other striker to play to score goals, and Rodriguez doesn't do that as well as Sharp.

Everton may well have been keen, but frankly that doesn't mean a great deal. We were keen on Dann by all accounts, doesn't mean he's good.

As I say, we'll have to agree to disagree. Sharp seems to be very comfortable in the championship, seems to know his level and I doubt he'll ever play in the prem unless he gets promoted again and gets a chance that way.

Potentially, and I think (hope) Jay will be a better striker in a few years time. I just haven't seen much in him to suggest he'd do (is doing) a better job than Sharp.

And if rumours are to be believed Forest are overlooking Sharp for a bid for Bechio, who again has more to his game and I reckon coukd do the business in the prem, if this happens its more evidence that teams dont have confidence he can do it in the prem.

Are you really saying you would play Sharp up top on his own DPS ? J Rod will get you goals too, if he had an extended run Im confident of his quality.

FWIW if Sharp had pace then I would say yes for a prem chance, but he doesnt so I cant see him ever making an impact here.

Ultimately, if Reading signed Sharp now or a player of that ilk we wouldnt be very worried.

As others have said, he has been around and scoring goals for 3 or 4 years consistently but no prem teams have ever come in for him - there is a reason why when the likes of Graham, Wickham, Bothroyd, Sordell, Morison have all made the move infront of him, and few of those are exactly top players.

Redknapp targetting the likes of Tim Cahill, Robbie Keane and Jake Livermore to save QPR. Some greatly inspiring choices there. Excellent use of worldwide scouting networks too.

The first two would be great buys if it was 2005.

They need to keep that average age of over 30 up.

To be fair though I thought Keane did a decent job at Villa last season, trouble is they would only be available for a short period and then they go back, if they do well it leaves a bit of gap in your team.

@SimonPeach: Martin Jol says reports #FFC are the English side in talks with Molde's Vegard Forren are "not true".

of course not, it's just agent talk. These lads have a very limited period to earn their crust on actual transfers so they are unusually active in spreading rumours about their clients. As your average journalist will print anything he hears it's a win win for the agents.

That sort of thing shows either that QPR are not attractive right now OR that Fernandes doesnt want to put his hand in his pocket any more this season.

If thats the case it is game over IMO despite how good a manager Harry is, who, I have heard through the grapevine thinks he may have made a poor decision going to QPR and the situation (in fighting etc) is worse than he thought

He doesn't need to put his hand in his pocket overmuch, they have some decent players who were badly managed. Looked OK to me against Chelsea.

Actually these are the quotes from Forren's Manager, might not be Fulham but its more than agent talk and worthy of printing:

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11678/8378461/Vegard-Forren-looks-set-to-leave-Molde-Norwegian-club-have-confirmed

Norwegian club Molde have confirmed that they are in talks with an unnamed club over the sale of defensive star Vegard Forren.

The highly-rated 24-year-old defender has been watched closely by a number of Premier League clubs in recent months.

Everton were regarded as favourites after David Moyes personally took in a Molde game, while Manchester United, Newcastle, Fulham and Sunderland are also said to have an interest.

Now Molde's boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Forren will not be linking up with the Norway national squad this month as he is in talks to leave the club.

"Vegard is not travelling to the National Team camp because we are in the final stages of negotiations with another club," Solskjaer told Romsdals Budstikke.

"It's possible that Vegard will go for a medical check-up and negotiate his personal contract."

In terms of goalkeepers, who do you think is the premier league team with the greatest selection of gks? I cannot really think of a side with 3 decent keepers, Chelsea, cityand arsenal don't even have 2 good keepers. Sunderland, Fulham, utd, wba but that's far from strong. Obviously spurs would be the bestplace to look for a quality keeper spending most time in the reserves but who else would be worth poaching? Given? Stockdale? Westwood? But these are all second choices.

Perhaps easiest question in PL.

Spurs.

Well we're not going to get any PL team's first choice keeper whilst we're in a so precarious position are we. Boruc will do for me, he's as good as we'll get this January.

They have some very good players that dont get on with each other very well, and many are the old adage of typical

Mercenaries, Fernandes and Hughes were probably pleased to have grabbed them but in reality many were players looking for a last pay day.

Granero is a top player, Diakite on his day is decent, they need CBs desperately.

If they go down itll be a disaster, no relegation clauses, high wages, this is the reason teams need a decent transfer comittee

Former Derby and Arsenal winger Ryan Smith has joined Greek Super League outfit Skoda Xanthi after leaving MLS side Chivas USA. Smith has signed a two-and-a-half year contract and told Sky Sports: “I spent three years in America and enjoyed it, but now I am keen to help Xanthi and look forward to the challenge ahead.”

Jeez, for a player of his ability that's a bloody decent club to find yourself at.

Thought that was the case. We're too slow as a nation when it comes to identifying these cross-nationality players.

He'd walk into the national team at the mo.

for some reason..as a footballing nation, we seem too proud to want someone like him...hargreaves got in as he was a CL winner etc

but that is the bench mark....we think we are too good

for example..arteta could play for england..but he will never ever get a call up...

the germans have no issue in nationalising talents

@dankiz1: @reluctantnicko @markreeves999 joining Fulham apparently

@reluctantnicko: @dankiz1 That would come as a surprise

@reluctantnicko: @northamsoul7 Price was silly in summer. Now a buyer's market. And u r still a potential buyer.

@reluctantnicko: @markreeves999 Only one buyer in town right now. Southampton. Clearly he would fancy Liverpool or Everton if they were in a place to bid.
