What the hell is a provincial club?

It is a common enough term that usually refers to clubs outside the main conurbations (Greater London, Birmingham, Mancester, Liverpool, Leeds/Bradford, Tyneside). Clubs such as Saints, Forest, Hull usually fall into this "category". It is not based on any true definition of province as used elsewhere in the world, just a colloquialism.

Thought we might be looking at Holtby but as usual it's Liverpool,Arsenal,Everton, Paris St G, Citeh and Utd first and then

any other club if none of them come up with the required amount of folding. Why do those clubs need so many players, they've got more than enough already. Roll on the financial fair play rules and the salary cap. Deprives smaller clubs of a fair chance and good players of a regular game.

Worth looking to poach Chris wondolowski from san Jose earthquakes, even as a loan until the summer and see how he does. He scored 27 in 34 for a side that finished down the table. Won MVP with 90% of the votes over henry and the rest. Apparently lost terry to score against Chelsea in pre season and terry was heard saying "your movement is incredible". If we don't take him can see another aide going for him. Worth a punt?

work permit criteria? cos we ain't going to persuade that tribunal that XXXX is a player of exceptional ability after confining Lee to the posh seats in the stands.

Just watched a compilation and have never seen anyone score so many tap ins! Reminded me of Sharp a bit.

The financial fair play laws are going to make it harder for "smaller" teams to complete with the big clubs, not easier.

Could well be, he was on our wanted list in the summer.

was this wanted list published somewhere, did I miss that ?? It's all speculation, those that know don't tell and those that don't tend to make it up as they go along.

Saints keen on Bradford striker Wells who played well vs Arsenal. Would be one for the future but did look exciting.

Looked a lively little player. would imagine he'd be looked at for the development squad though.

Looks like a good finisher, but coming up against defenders with some decent positioning would mean he'd get found out pretty quickly.

Ricardo Carvalho is available on a free. Could potentially be an experienced option until the end of the season if he doesn't mind taking a pay cut.

I also still think we want Gary Hooper and Matt Phillips.

Surely worth a bid if others are going in? Chances are it won't happen but may as well get involved as you never know.

@SkySportsNews: QPR have made a bid for West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame, according to #SSN sources

West Ham will laugh it off.

Rumours afoot about Steve Gohouri is interested in joining us,if we are interested is another matter I suppose.

Didn't set the world alight at Wigan, but quite strong and physically solid, so could be a decent option if higher profile targets don't work out.

no.....but these are on a different league pay wise...each one of them would command at least double our most expensive signing/wage player is on

not a bad shout, do we really need him though? would be good for improving depth of squad though

Not the sort of player we need, we already have two tricky wide men

Id like to see us have someone different, with direction and pace, getting crosses in that would allow us to change things. Someone like Downing, Jarvis, Bennett those sort of players
