Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland' date=' 19, is set to leave the club in January after their latest takeover talks stalled. The £6m-rated England international, who has caught the eye of Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City and Southampton, may be sold to keep the Blues from going into administration.[/quote']

no thanks, I want an experienced keeper; Doubt if Butland is much better than Gazza.

I'm starting to think we are more in need in midfield than defence. A real class centre midfielder and a winger would have a massive impact IMO.

now let's see: Fellaini,Arteta,Gerard,Sandro and Diamé are rated a weeny bit higher than Morgan. Which one do ou fancy paying 20 million for seeing that Diamé is out injured for a longish while.. What we need is players to provide movement in front of them and a striker who can err well strike on the ground.

Andrey Arshavin anyone? Solve our problem on the left and has good premier league experience, face doesn't fit at arsenal but he had a good season last year our on loan.

not the worst shout in the world. Never gonna happen as he won't `lower' himself to our level (nor could we afford him), but when on song he's outstanding. Not sure we want another `luxury' player. He also looks low on fitness and confidence and a direct up and down wide man might be a better option.

Always looks short of stamina to me, even when he was a regular at the Arse he was puffing like an old locomotive after 60 minutes.

Would rather have Nathan Redmond.

How about getting Sean O'Discoll into the fold. Probably no chance or no position available, but always rated him and liked his style of football and it seems to match Adkins' own philosphy.

Why on earth would an NPC standard manager who was at a club like forest and doing alright, why would he come and be another coach at a team 4th bottom of the Prem. also, a club smaller than the one he just left

Bizarre

no reason at all. I just liked him, and seeing as he is unemployed right now I thought that until he finds another job we could keep him busy and perhaps our players could benefit from his knowledge. He won't come here. No reason not to call him.

You know, around 1990 John Mortimor trained the associate schoolboys at SFC. He'd been let go as Beneleses manager a post he held not long after being Benfica and Real Bettis manager. If you don't ask.

are Forest really bigger than us these days?

Not sure whether it has been mentioned on here as I've not been on here for a few days apart from the odd post.

Alan Nixon has us linked with Shane Lowry from Millwall. Can play left back and CB, and is a good strong player. Personally I've not heard of him before but anyone else got any snippets ?

I would say so....they are a huge club with a rich history really.....just spent a little bit longer outside of the top flight than us..

up for it or up to it? The latter is an opinion I disagree with, but certainly an opinion, the former is the biggest load of **** I've read on here for some time.

Perhaps I over reacted a touch, he just isnt having the impact this year that he should be, 5 goals from open play only is poor really. But that may be to do with the fact we dont seem to be creating any real chances as a team despite the flair players we have.

BUT he does seem lacking to me this year, dangerous in the air tes but he isnt as much of a handfull on the deck and certainly did nothing really at Fulham or Sunderland.

grant holt scored a his fair share of goals last season....and all sorts of goals..I hoped lambert would do better as we all agree that he is better...but I think that wont happen at all...

then again, part of tightening up is no where near as much change for lambert up front...

he is still a big player for us though..no one else with 5 mins to go would you want to smash in a penalty to rescue an away point..

lambert needs another striker to play up front with him as its too easy for opposition defenders to double team him, none of the midfield get close enough too him as we play 3 holding mids at the moment and punch/ramirez are teh ones passing to him

any striker playing on his own in our current system would struggle

they have a wonderful history with a trophy haul that far exceeds our wildest dreams, but they are never have been a huge club. I think the term used to describe them is provincial and the fact a club of their size won those trophies was the amazing thing. Are we ourselves not a provincial club?

With a brother in law as a fan I don't want to admit they are bigger, though I concede more successful.

he was bound to score less goals, but he's still got more than Aguero, Holt, Jelavic and Berbatov and the same as Rooney and Tevez. He has been slightly less dominating up front as the defenders are simply better. His touch hasn't been spot on and having less space means he's given the ball away at times which hasn't happened in the lower leagues. However, for me he still looks effective and by far and away the best man to lead our attack.

I actually agreed with Adkins decision not to start him against the very tall West Ham. I just wonder if he will go the same route against the equally tall Stoke.

Birmingham Chairman admits they have to sell players to stay afloat in Jan. Says they couldnt turn down the 6m that they did from Saints in the summer any longer and that Liverpool and Everton aee keen and he isnt sure if Saints still want him or not.

Sounds like 4m would get him to be honest.

not sure, I always thought it meant outside the really big cities like London and Birmingham, but I think it might mean outside of the capitol city.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_European_Cup_Final in the summary it describes then as a relatively small provincial club

I don't honestly think he is an option now as he is no better than Gazzanigga, we need someone who will demand his box and make less clangers than the **** we have at the moment.

If you can't find one in the premiership then pop over to France etc.

IMHO our defence is good now if we get the guy from Millwall who can play cover as CB and swap with Shaw for LB.

We just need a nippy winger, Still think we will go for the Blackpool guy and maybe if we sell Sharp and Hammond we get a covering player for Cork if injured.

Hoe about Brede Hangeland? Out of contract in the Summer.

He would be a fantastic signing. Probably high wages, but could perhaps be offset by having no transfer fee. He was an absolute beast in both games against Fulham, he is an organiser and a leader, he has bags of experience and at 31 still has (one could presume) at least 2 or 3 years of top performances within him. It would be an outstanding signing if we got him IMO; better than any signing we made last summer.

You are right it means outside the capital. It can also mean unsophisticated which could explain why you would rarely hear a massive club like say Manu described as provincial whereas you will hear it about the likes of Forest and Saints, two clubs similar in size but not of course in history, which makes their achievements all the more impressive and probably never to be repeated.

I honestly believe that the kind of players we only look for are those for the future.

That problem is you will struggle to get them from the premiership as other teams refuse to sell.

Last golden oldie IMHO was JOS who I think was a panic buy but he turned out well for us in the championship.

Predominantly yes, but not totally. Jos was late 20s when we got him, Steven Davis is 27, about to turn 28. Whether we'll ever sign anyone 30 years old or above, perhaps you're right. But IMO it's really short sighted to rule out players that may only be able to give decent service for a season or two and who will have little re-sale value; I hope its not the case that we have such a policy in place, if only just for one or two players.

Interesting to see a bid for 6M confirmed in addition to our other business in the summer. Should be money to spend in January.
