Hoggins Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Just had his loan cancelled apparently after only starting 4 league games..
Saint Charlie Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Just had his loan cancelled apparently after only starting 4 league games.. Because he is/was always injured and is on huge Chelsea wages.
Chez Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Isn't he already on loan at WHU, from Chelsea? loan period ends shortly and West Ham are not renewing it. In the game at their place he was a total non entity. Based on that showing I don't want him anywhere near our first team. We can do much better for far less money.
MOSaint Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Huge wages & has suffered a string of injuries so far this season. I'll pass.
Saint Garrett Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Benayoun is average. Not worth the wages. Would rather us go for Phillips on Ince if he doesn't join Liverpool. As far as I know, Marin is a wide player not a CAM. But can play either side
Restark19 Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Gaston Ramirez's position, can also play on the wing. we don't need him would say we need someone who can play on the wing and someone who can create chances...
supersonic Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 would say we need someone who can play on the wing and someone who can create chances... Adam Lallana, Jason Puncheon
Charlie Wayman Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Looks like Brum are inviting us to come and get Jack Buckland for £6M now they're skint. Let's do it as Kelvin is way past ready to be put out to grass on yesterday's showing. He's looking old - sorry mate but time to hang up the old gloves and boots.
S-Clarke Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Adam Lallana, Jason Puncheon Incase you've forgotten, Adam is out for a while...so we do need another player in the wide area's.

No thanks. £6m on Butland would be an utter waste of money.
Smirking_Saint Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 No thanks. £6m on Butland would be an utter waste of money. Not really, the lad is going to be a top top keeper If you said... It'll be better spent right now in other areas, I would agree, but if we can get what we need AND Butland, Ill be happy.
Tommy Mulgrew Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 BBC Sport gives plenty of suggestions for posssible January movers. And includes Lescott, who I've suggested before, and this: " DEDE (24, centre-back) Vasco da Gama Strapping Brazil centre-back, dominant in the air, quick across the ground, sound in the tackle and capable of playing out of defence. Club's financial crisis could force a sale." Sounds promising. Anyone know anything more about Dede?

But he previously been linked with higher clubs than us, could we be that imaginative ? Then theres the usual chestnut of a work permit.

S-Clarke Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-transfer-news-double-bid-1511998 Amazing really, if those deals do happen, then we'd have committed to spend something nearing on £45m on players in one season....! And that's not to say we'll be after even more.
Restark19 Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 Incase you've forgotten, Adam is out for a while...so we do need another player in the wide area's. Exactly. And we need competition/back up anyway
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 30 December, 2012 Posted 30 December, 2012 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-transfer-news-double-bid-1511998 Not convinced on Butland as an immediate fix. Astori sounds good though.
S-Clarke Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 GK options. What about maarten stekelenburg? Not playing at Roma, 30 year old Dutch international. Fulham want him. Could get him for as much as we'd pay for Butland.
SuperMikey Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 GK options. What about maarten stekelenburg? Not playing at Roma, 30 year old Dutch international. Fulham want him. Could get him for as much as we'd pay for Butland. That would be a fantastic signing. Although if Fulham want him then maybe we could nab Stockdale off them?
cambsaint Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Frank Lampard -but we can all dream can't we. He'd have the same influence that Keegan and Ball had in the old days, but the wages-never going to happen nowadays.
LatvianTolix Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 GK options. What about maarten stekelenburg? Not playing at Roma, 30 year old Dutch international. Fulham want him. Could get him for as much as we'd pay for Butland. He just came back from an injury. Not in the best form, thats why not starting in starting 11
SW11_Saint Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Goalkeeper issue - I'd go and test Spurs with a cheeky bid for Brad Friedel. Even if we have to pat slightly over the odds he'd be worth it - experienced, commanding and would marshall our defence.

Brad Friedel signed a new contact until 2014 with Spurs last week so I can't see that happening.
SW11_Saint Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Brad Friedel signed a new contact until 2014 with Spurs last week so I can't see that happening. Yeah, saw that, but that usually just ensures the selling club get a higher price. I can't see it happening either, but if I were Adkins that's what I'd be proposing to Cortese. It has to be worth an enquiry.

And that's not to say we'll be after even more.with that money spent, you cant go down...no way..that is QPR spending
tajjuk Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Astori would be a good signing but I'm not sure about Butland, he will be a top keeper but is he better now than what we already have? with that money spent, you cant go down...no way..that is QPR spending Agree with that, especially with no sales either and I still think we need another wide man.
Benali Saint Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 If Brum are skint, why not have a go for Redmond. He would give us extra competion for the wings
Dellman Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 If its a GK we need, what is wrong with Shane Given he is supposed to be free to move, I used to think he was exc has something happened to him? Not Robinson please, something has happened to him he's got fat and lost confidence
trousers Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 @solentsport: #Saintsfc boss Nigel Adkins with some thoughts on the January transfer window (but no names) http://t.co/9dLrfXzd via @audioboo

Not Robinson please, something has happened to him he's got fat and lost confidence No way is Shane Given us good as Kevin Davis!
BILLY Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 No way is Shane Given us good as Kevin Davis! No he is a lot ******* better! KD has been a great servant to the club but is now a liability.
Window Cleaner Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 No he is a lot ******* better! KD has been a great servant to the club but is now a liability. He was a liability when we dropped him the first time. A smart move then would have been to get him a NPC/L1 loan so that Adkins didn't have an excuse to bring him back as son as Gazza screwed up a bit (or a lot as the case may be). KD's continued presence in the side can only be due to NA's misplaced loyalty towards him, there can be no other rational explanation. It was wrong last summer but having learnt the hard way we've fallen into the same trap again.
Wade Garrett Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 No he is a lot ******* better! KD has been a great servant to the club but is now a liability. Read my post again, slowly.
student Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Reading have signed the sporting captain, a CB, for 600k. Bargain.
Window Cleaner Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Reading have signed the sporting captain, a CB, for 600k. Bargain. for 600K£ he's probably got a wooden leg or something.
student Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Contract was ending in the summer, hes a good talent.
ollysaints1 Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Reading must be paying him big money, no way he'd go there otherwise.
Saint Charlie Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Will he force Mariappa out the team though? Wasnt he meant to be class?
MOSaint Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Pretty good signing for Reading, didn't live up to the hype he had a couple of years ago but he's still a good player. Zingarivic is going to have be a bit more brazen with the chequebook than he was in the summer if Reading want to stay up.
Crab Lungs Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 The whole Reading owner fiasco will end in tears... and I won't be surprised if the Cherries come rattling the buckets again in the not too distant future...
VectisSaint Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Reading have signed the sporting captain, a CB, for 600k. Bargain. "Carrico is a versatile player who can play in the centre of defence as well as in midfield". Substitute "Pele" for "Carrico" and all sounds very familiar. Has only played twice this season (due to contractual issues not injury). Remains to be seen if he is a bargain, he is not a full international for Portugal so don't see why this is seen as such a big deal. Sporting are not the team they used to be, in the bottom half of the Primera Liga, although cannot blame Carrico given he hasn't played. Seems a fairly risky signing, can't see he would be any better than Jose Fonte.
S-Clarke Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 I don't think it's massively risky, as there's very little cost involved, but it's an odd one. I don't think he's any sort of world beater for a start. If we signed him, imagine the melt down on here....'''OMG we have no money!!!'' ''Oh christ, we've gone for the cheap option''
Delboy Dave Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 Well they seem pretty happy with the signing http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=116977

He'd have the same influence that Keegan and Ball had in the old days, but the wages-never going to happen nowadays. Sorry but Lampard can not be considered in the same league as KK - twice European Player of the Year- when we signed him , let alone Alan Ball. Lamplard would be a costly high profile signing, but as you say not going to happen, his most likely move will be joining Uncle 'Arry.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 31 December, 2012 Posted 31 December, 2012 The whole Reading owner fiasco will end in tears... and I won't be surprised if the Cherries come rattling the buckets again in the not too distant future... What a job eddie how has done though...... Superb #goingup
david in sweden Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 would say we need someone who can play on the wing and someone who can create chances... .......AND score goals ........and get back to cover our defence..... and is good at goal-line clearances when the goalie f**ks up !
david in sweden Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11682/8365113/ but I 'd think that any 31 year old player would say he'd be interested to play in the Prem.........given the chance.
supersonic Posted 1 January, 2013 Posted 1 January, 2013 Reading have signed the sporting captain, a CB, for 600k. Bargain. Yeah, Sporting Fareham FC
