maybe put a few decent bids in for the best players for the teams around us (apart from Reading)......

Harry is already down to the barebones mate, he doesn't need us taking his players off his hands. Not unless there is something in it for him anyway.

read yesterday that someone had put in a decent offer for Granero (Fiorentina maybe) and Taraabt will probably be on his way as well so there won't be much left for us to bid for.

Still think someone like Richard Dunne might do a job for rest of this season - but doubt Villa would lose him to a rival.

forget Thomas Ince...off back to Anfield apparently

More mental management from Liverpool. Rather than getting him to sign a long-term deal 2 years ago and then send him out on loan, they let him leave on a free. I therefore expect them to pay upwards of £10m for him, which would be the norm for them. They love overpaying for British players.

I can't believe that Liverpool would pay near-on £8m for a player they let go for £250k. I think the embarrassment would stop them. I also seem to remember Ince saying he really didn't enjoy being there. I know the Manager has changed but still, don't see it.

Paper talk for me. Do they really need him? They will be buying a striker first of all if anyone.

Here is one for you....

Vlad Chiriches from Steau Bucharest. There could be one or two problems signing him as Barce, AC Milan and Chelsea are all rumoured to be interested, but none have followed up with a bid.

€10 million should do it apparently.

Would show some massive intent.

intent was shown when we spent over £30m in the summer

Vlad is a good name for a defender however -

The biggest flaws in Chriches' game are his aforementioned sub-par strength, and his difficulty in defending agile attacking players. While he doesn't lumber about the pitch, he's not quick enough to keep up with speedy forwards.

He will need to bulk up if he wishes to cut it in Europe's better leagues, especially the Premier League which boasts the most physical brand of soccer in Europe.

Think we already have two centre-backs who fit that description and maybe need a more physical defender.

Liverpool have a 35% sell on fee on Ince, so would re-coup some of the money if they signed him. Still poor business though if they were to buy him back.

Poor business to sell him in the first place, but the sell on fee softens the blow a little.

Good business to buy one of the most exciting young player's in the country.

With Adam set to miss a significant chunk of the season now, do we act in the transfer window to bring somebody in or use the squad? Personally I would get a loan player in, like a youngster from a top European club.

Why state your opinion as fact? NA has said he hopes Adam to be fit for Sunderland. I've seen no reports to suggest otherwise (unless you take the 'my mate bumped into him in the pub' and he openly shared his medical details in a conversation he knew would not go down well with his employers). Even a 2 month lay off only takes us to the end of the transfer window so clearly better to look within for a replacement

The only comments where Nigel has said he hopes to have him back for Sunday are those made after the Reading game before he'd been assessed. If the Vman has stated that it's 'f*cking bad but not season ending'...then a few months would probably be about right.

What's Koumas upto these days? Normally he is on these type of threads

Him, James Beattie and Surman are all looking at houses in Winchester right now.

Hasn't been able to force his way into the team at WBA. Would be a good signing imo but not the type of CB we need. Think we need a Jaidi type personally.

And Mowgli, my info about Adam's injury lay-off came from the huge thread about it. VMAN has been spot on so far about everything.

I disagree, we're short of quality competition for the wide positions, and Lallana's untimely injury merely highlights that.

Fair enough. I only remember his prediction on Ramirez being out for 6 weeks (came back in 4) and Strachan coming in as manager till the end of the season. But now you mention it, he was quite accurate on a couple of signings during close season. As for Dawson. Def a good signing. Would be hasppy with that!

Come on lads, show a bit more imagination we don't want other people's misfits and journeymen we want top class young stars-in-the-making of around 22/23. Sterling for starters although one suspects Puncheon is better at the moment, oh and Walcott and I'm serious he'll be on a free soon.

Frimpong?! WHY!

Looked decent for arsenal pre injury, looked good for wolves pre injury, will be a decent player IMHO, Arsenal happy to release him, will come cheap, and if it doesnt work out so what ?

Easily good enough to deputise for cork and morgan and arguably better than anything we have in reserve for that position.
