Saint Without a Halo Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 Davis. Gazzaniga is still learning, and doesn't command his defence. Boruc is poor. Which league do you equate SPL with? I would say championship at best. Errr Celtic seemed to do well against Barca and we struggle against the likes of Westbrom and the Hammers also Boruc was Polands number 1 so a bit unfair to put him down on the basis of the SPL although I am in the camp of giving Gazza a chance as I think he has potential! doddisalegend Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 For the past two years Boruc was the number one keeper for Fiorentina in Serie A. So why did they let him go? and how come he couldn't get another club until we came calling (in desperation it would seem)?

Window Cleaner Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 Boruc will be in Punishment done then, pity we got all PC about a plastic bottle, might even have won against Swansea and even done better against WBA. Gazzas stats shots/saves are woeful. Think he's conceded more goals than he's made saves.
Pedro Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 What concerns me is that NA was a keeper yet he can't decide on his best one. I'd stick with KD for his experience and loyalty for the club, he's made no more mistakes than the other two.

VectisSaint Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 Punishment done then, pity we got all PC about a plastic bottle, might even have won against Swansea and even done better against WBA. Gazzas stats shots/saves are woeful. Think he's conceded more goals than he's made saves. I was saying to a mate the other day that he has hardly made any saves that I can remember. He pushed one round the post against Swansea (one of KD's weak areas of course) but it is quite amazing how little he has had to do considering he is behind the worst defence in the history of the first 11 weeks of the PL. This is why for me the jury is still out on him, obviously he can only make saves if shots are on target (or close) but I would worry what might happen against more attacking teams. He looked nervous on Saturday, he made a dreadful error earlier on when he basically patted the ball up in the air, and one of our defenders (Fonte?) stood and looked at the ball on the ground for what seemed like an age before he eventually booted it away. I would have to say I have more faith in Boruc longer term.
Leicestersaint Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 I am not convinced by any of them - if we are going to flourish we need a top class keeper. At present i would go for Gazzaniga but I am not convinced.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 For the past two years Boruc was the number one keeper for Fiorentina in Serie A. One year actually, according to Wikipedia: "After an injury to Sébastien Frey, he made his Serie A debut in a 1–0 win over Chievo on 7 November 2010. On 18 August 2011, Boruc officially claimed Fiorentina's number one jersey after Frey's move to Genoa.[13]" A year that involved a relegation battle, 5-0 drubbing from Juventus and finishing 13th. Maybe that's why they let him go for nothing?

derry Posted 14 November, 2012 Share Posted 14 November, 2012 Would someone just tell me exactly what Boruc has done in the two games he has played for Southampton that would make him No 1. Against WHU he was in the words of the Sky team, indecisive, a performance to forget, etc. Against Spurs he certainly didn't inspire confidence. melmacian_saint Posted 14 November, 2012 Share Posted 14 November, 2012 Should we just agree then that Gazza can never become our no.1 and in fact must flop it's footballing career altogether? If so then in full spirit of what this forum's all about we should open a thread every other 3 days about how not good enough he is, how bad he looks or even the fact he's a south-american time waster. He shall not start a game for us ever again (yes, because the true, correct starting 11s come from this forum, not from the manager and his team)! Wiki also says "In 2011, Frey joined Genoa on a five-year deal on free transfer after falling out of favour for the newly signed Artur Boruc who joined from Celtic in the previous season" Frey was popular with the fans but once injured never regained the jersey when Boruc took over and had to move on. Boruc played 62 games across 2 seasons in Florence In the relegation threatened season 2011/12 Boruc was a big part of the reason Fiorentina stayed up with 14 clean sheets in front of a poor defence. He declined an offer to stay, with a view to getting a move back to the UK as a free agent, which avoided the transfer window. Have followed Fiorentina for a while and saw a lot those games on live streams. As I said earlier in this thread, when match fit and given a run he will prove to be worth the punt. Got no axe to grind with Kelvin or Gazza that's just my opinion Mind you, Fiorentina have had a cracking start to this season though !

Obviously much potential, but would you rather some older hands right now? Wasn't there today but I have felt all along while Gazza is v promising, it is too big a step to introduce a 20 year old in to the Premiership with a club having its first season there. Boruc needs a kick up the arse, and he need to get fit because I feel he will be needed. It was interesting that NA obviously agreed too after dropping Gazzaniga after just a few games. Trader Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Gazza has the potential and as Nige says the only way he will get experience is by playing games - he is the future. We must not make the same mistake as we made with Bart (leaving him out constantly and destroying his confidence) who is now proving himself with Notts County. Boruc has a bad attitude and is too fat. Davis is finished - it may be unpalatable but it's true.

Trader Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 you seriously think he's finished full stop or just at saints? Look, I think Kelvin's been immense for Saints in the past, but we must look to the future and as far as i can see Gazza has the most potential as I have seen as a GK at Saints for years, and we should stick with him and accept the occasional gaffe (which he will make). He was really comfortable today coming for crosses, really assured with hoiletts tame shot in first half, really good against Swansea when he was really kept busy, nice distribution to yoshida, perfect pass and the way he got his angles right and saved dyers trickly shot into the far post was a joy to watch. As for the way he came for crosses and instilled confidence against west brom was fantastic. didn't make the defence worried at all today, no commentator was saying how poor he was as a keeper today.
