sandwichsaint Posted 12 November, 2012 Posted 12 November, 2012 Not sure how we've got this far without ...... Kevin Phillips, terminally average. Wiki tells me he scored 22 in 64 in generally pretty poor sides but you always felt like you expected more from him.
washsaint Posted 12 November, 2012 Posted 12 November, 2012 Kevin Gibbens, Phil Warner and Shayne Bradley......as someone else mentioned Neal Bartlett until he got into drugs (and he was a Branfoot picking)
Turkish Posted 12 November, 2012 Posted 12 November, 2012 David Hughes was a class player and would have been great but for his injuries.
sandwichsaint Posted 12 November, 2012 Posted 12 November, 2012 I thought Fitz Hall looked really good the couple of times I saw him, shades of a young Rio, where did it all go wrong?
St Jim Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Can't believe he's not been mentioned yet (apologies if it has, I couldn't see a mention of him) but our record signing for 11 years - Rory Delap. for 4m in 2001 I expected something special from him. I'd seen him score soem great goals for Derby yet he dons the red & white and turns to sh1t3. Record waste of money!
Fan The Flames Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 I thought Fitz Hall looked really good the couple of times I saw him, shades of a young Rio, where did it all go wrong? He seems to be a good Championship CB that struggles with the step up to the prem, sounds familiar.
dubai_phil Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Chicken George back in the day - George Lawrence. Once described by a Saints Coach as "The greatest footballer since Pele" ....... "From the shoulders down" Whatever happened to Imants Bleidelis (sic) & Kleber Chala (The Translators) as well?
Badger Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Reuben Agboola never reached the heights that he seemed destined for. He made his debut alongside Danny Wallace aged 17 at Old Trafford, was composed in defence and used the ball well. Playing alongside Mark Wright it seemed nly a matter of time before he got an internatinal call up.

egg Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Abdul Kamara, the young midfielder who went to Leeds with Rod and Ray Wallace. The coaches including Bob Higgins were tipping him for greatness. I saw him once and agreed. Anyone know what happened to him. Who was the midfielder who captained the shearer era youth team and played for England at that level?

Window Cleaner Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 All these young hotshots who didn't quite make just demonstrates one thing...to be a top class footballer you have to be f*cking good.
egg Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Neil Maddison - tipped as the 'new Bryan Robson'. Not him. Paul Masters I think it was.
Pilchards Posted 13 November, 2012 Author Posted 13 November, 2012 All these young hotshots who didn't quite make just demonstrates one thing...to be a top class footballer you have to be f*cking good. and the right attitude!! I knew two that never made it as they showed a sign of a bad attitude on the training ground. You could add Nile Ranger & Jake Thompson to that list as ones that left because the management never liked them.
Super_Uwe Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Andrei Kanchelskis! We gave him the number 7 shirt (the first player to wear it post-Matty), and although he was knocking on 33 when he arrived I felt sure he could do a decent job - remember the likes of Djorkaeff, Fernando Hierro etc were doing the business for Bolton, so why not Andrei? I remember we brought him on against Everton during the 02/03 season. Received the ball out wide and spooned his cross into the Chapel. That was that!
saint_disco123 Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Gaston and jay rod..... That's 18 million we will never see again.
Crazy Diamond Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Jake Thomson - remember watching him in the youth team, he was very good. Vocal, sounded like a leader.
