Heading to the concourse on 38 mins...

For many varying reasons, I was at St Mary's today for the first time since the Skate game. On thing I noticed which seemed worse than in previous seasons was the amount of fans heading down into the concourses for half time with so long remaining of the first half. I started noticing people leaving their seats as early as the 38th minute.

Now, this is not a holier than thou, you're a crap fan post, I just noticed the marked difference in atmosphere in the crowd at the end of the first half. People seemed far more restless and unfocused (I guess due to standing up to let people past) and it seemed more relaxed as though it was already half time. I wonder if this transfers to the players at all as those last few minutes were a bit of a non entity football wise. If people stayed in their seats and kept roaring the team on right to the whistle, I reckon we would be far more effective in these last few minutes.

Just my idle musings. On the whole I thought the fans were great today, especially when Nigel came out.

yes if I were being paid thousands of pounds each week to play football, I do think that I'd still probably feel a bit sad if some people started going for a beer before I'd finished playing my football. What flipping mother flippers, I'd show them, the selfish flippers, I'd stop playing so well, that'd teach them.

Forget 38mins - the ground was half empty at the end. Who here remembers the Dell Days? And the relegation fights we had? And the support that went with it? Where the f** k is that now?

He's busy cooking dinner and joeying for his masters in the navy in Plymouth tonight.

I went down on 38 minutes. But that was because I needed a poo and wouldn't have been able to hold out long enough to wait for a toilet at half time.

I've just checked the small print of the rules & regulations for match day & it turns out this is an acceptable reason, as such, you are excused.

Although I appreciate how articulately you've replied to my post, you have in fact completely missed the point.

I thought it was idol musings rather than you making a point? But ok, being serious, you're right, but people go down early due to wishing to get some food, beer, etc. If they leave it until the whilstle goes, then by the time they get served half time is over. So really, the club bring this on themselves, if there was better/quicker service at half time, people wouldn't go down so early.

Thought this thread was going to be about a dodgy defensive clearance.

With regards to the actual topic, why can't we have venders in the aisles selling hot food and soft drinks like the do in the US. Would take some of the load off the catering at HT.

Probably something to do with health and safety!

One of our group goes down on 36 mins. Gets the beers in then the rest of us come down after the whistle and the beers are ready. Makes sense surely?

Yep, used to take it in turns at away games, makes sense, and yes you may get unlucky and miss something. Cannot remember missing anything saints did though.

I don't do it myself but I can understand why people do it and the thing about staying in your seat 'roaring your team on' wouldn't make the slightest difference to the result,it would have still have been the same if the game was played behind closed doors.

Will people who go to church every Sunday get eaten by a different class of maggot when they die?......nope,it ain't going to make the slightest bit of difference.

I'm pecularly gifted in that I am able to last 1 hour and 50 minutes without feeling the need to push poor quality food down my throat or drink beer. It's especially easy if I start at 3pm on a saturday afternoon. I also as a general rule try to have a **** before I leave the house for any length of time.

Quite !

I really don't see the point in either doing it or complaining about it !

Could not believe the sheer amount of people leaving with 5 minutes to go, with a match at 1-1 and Saints chasing the winners. Weirdos!

He says watchg the game on the screen in the corporate suite.

How was your corporate experience yesterday Patrick?

Have decided my bigger gripe is now not people leaving early or taking their seats late, but expecting to just barge past irrespective of what's going on the pitch.

Wait for the ball to go dead FFS.

Yes, I agree with this. They EXPECT you to get out of the way and look at you like you are subhuman if you don't get up or move yourself aside to let them through. Like the man says, wait til there is a break in the play.

Do you really care if people are going to get a burger 5 minutes before the half is over?, what a pointless thread.

Pointless enough for you to respond to?

And no, I don't care, I specifically said this wasn't about having a go at other fans. I was just pointing out the change in atmosphere in the stadium that occurs at this point in the game.

You don't care but started a thread about it? Imagine how crowded this board would be if we all started threads on things we didn't care about.

Indeed.

Why within two shakes of a lamb's willy, the internet would be full up, and what would we do then?

Build a new one , that's what.

Out of finest English oak.

Leaving at 80 mins is just maddening! (especially as they always walk down in front of my view!)

Nipping down on 40 mins though is just being sensible, we never score or concede in those few mins and the queues in the concourse in the itchin north corner are horrific! For some reason it takes 9 people an age to serve 3 queues for a beer, considering there are only 3 beers to choose and only a few people mad enough to get anything else from that line it should be a simple operation but I have no idea how it can take so long.

Skipping a couple of mins of football (that used to be on the tv's but they seemed to have stopped that) is just sensible considering the ball ache a beer at half time is.
