Saints vs Swansea Post Match Reactions

going down....

that was shyte.....looked pretty solid but never worked their keeper nearly enough..with their amount of injuries...criminal.

adkins has to go......sad to say...

You're not sad to say it though, are you. You've been saying ad-naseum for the last few weeks and you're like a stuck record.

There was nothing wrong with the way we set up today. The formation and the tactics were spot on in fact. We didn't get the result because the team couldn't penetrate enough to seriously test the keeper, and that is 100% down to the players and not the manager. Getting rid of Adkins and bringing in someone new now will not make the slightest improvement IMO.

Simple chances like what? Clueless.

As soon as I saw WC's post I knew you'd respond with an insult because you're not exactly objective when it comes to Rickie, are you?

FWIW I think he's worth his place and that we looked better with him in and Rodriguez out, but he's still not playing particularly well. He's going more for the touches and lay-offs than the forceful finishing that we need from him - and that other teams fear.

Not to mention that dolly header against West Borm when it was still 0-0, the real Rickie Lambert doesn't miss those.

Very little wrong today in terms of the team, and the setup. We had a good shape about us, closed down well and retained the ball intelligently throughout the middle of the pitch. If there was one criticism, it was our lack of final third impact at times. I thought we should have worked their back 4 more than we did, as we had the game in our hands at stages of the game.

I was delighted to see Cork back, and felt he added a much needed energy and grit to the middle - as well as being able to see, and make a simple pass to retain possession. A nice solid debut from Shaw too, didn't do much wrong and has good pace to recover when needed. The substitution was understandable though, as he was out on his legs towards the closing period.

The goal was embarrassing though, again. The blame has to go to Gazza who played the most ridiculous pass you're ever likely to see, you can't really blame Yoshida because Gazza set him up for a fall there - although one criticism i have of Yoshida is his lack of strength, he was pushed off the ball by Nathan Dyer for petes sake.

Overall we should have won that, we didn't, and it's the same old avoidable goal that cost us it. If we did that last year we'd have been punished, so god knows why we're doing it this year. One of our back 5 seem programmed to see red at some stage within a game.

Maybe one day we'll keep a clean sheet...

Looked a decent enough performance, but we are soo slow to build an attack and then seem to give the ball away far too easily, handing the momentum to a much quicker Swansea side. Their passing was far snappier than ours, and Swansea looked very well organised. Our players are obviously low on confidence...so many times we were in the box but no-one wanted to take responsibility. I'm sure this will change as we start to pick up a few more points and concede less goals, but it needs to change fast. Their goal was quite simply ridiculous. Frustrating, but at least it's an improvement.

I agree with that assessment. Part of the problem up front is that our attacks are meant, more often than not, to culminate in a Rickie finish. But Rickie is playing like a build-up player. Don't get me wrong, he's very effective at that but the finishing part seems to have gone AWOL, and we desperately need it back.

I thought we played very well today, particularly Cork who was outstanding. Also, for 89.5 minutes of that game we actually looked fairly comfortable defensively. One **** up and you get punished.

Feel a bit gutted but Adkins did nothing wrong today. The way we set up made it very difficult for Britton and the other Swansea midfielders to dominate. And Fonte did a great job in marking Michu out of the game completely. Play like that next week and we'll beat QPR, I'm sure.

Lambert destroyed Monk today. Felt quite sorry for the bloke!

I thought Rickie looked a lot slimmer today, anyone else think that?

Spot on. I'm very annoyed tonight cos we deserved to win. We looked much better and I'm sticking by Adkins. Rickie was okay made the goal but feel he isn't that confident.

Not good enough. Adkins showed his mettle today by his bizarre decision to bring on Fox after they had just equalised. Time for him to walk and hope that somebody else can come in and get them defending. Also not impressed with gazzaniga to be honest, seems to be a lovefest on here for him, but I can hardly remember him making a save in the games he has been in goal. Boruc next week please.

Shaw was blowing out of his arse.

Yes let's rotate the keepers again. Because that's worked so well so far eh?

Thought they all played well today, even the defence. Cork was impressive especially as he's not played in ages, looked far more solid as a unit, just the problem of individual errors, Gazza should have put his foot through it rater than passing to Yoshida. Next week is now huge, especially if Villa beat Utd!

Coming out I felt more upset than at any time in st Mary's for ages. On reflection first time we have dominated a game. First time we've had our first team out though and hopefully can get a bit of continuity. I feel we have to keep going but might be completely wrong but hopefully a bit more to be positive about but saying that the result is a disaster really at this stage.

I'm Rickies biggest fan, played okay made goal but lacing confidence but feel if Adkins sticks with him

He will come up trumps.

Somehow we worked the ball the length of the pitch back to Gazza in two lumped passes and what did they expect him to do with it?
.....and that ball (that lead up to the goal) was back passed and started two yards from their corner flag!!!!! Edited by Deeps

Wonder if Lambert will swap out their three most influential players?

Swap out?

We were good today. Much more solid in midfield and kept the ball far better than we have since the second half at Villa. One balls up cost us 2 points but I was very encouraged by the overall performance.

Also important that, unlike every other game this season, we didn't let the opposition put us under any extended spells of pressure. Not once did the midfield drop deep and invite them on.

Everyone is going on about not being good enough but we were, thats what makes it a little bit disappointing. You cant do anything about mistakes. All we can do is look to the next game now.

No we are not good enough no matter how pleasing on the eye the game looked. Making just that one fatal defensive mistake is not good enough when you only have the capability to score a single goal. We improved today but it's hard to say against such opposition how much because Swansea were poor. You can't do much about individual errors such as that which cost us 3 points but I would have thought every player would have the key words tattooed upon their chest and underlined afer all we have been through. We are not creating many good chances but that is what we have to accept with a style of play that has to support the defence and attack. I find it difficult to understand the pace of Mayuka not being on the pitch but the team and manager delivered the sort of performance that is required to solve our problems. Shaw was tired when he came off but I hope this has not set back future good performances as just not comfortable with Fox.

I think you may have missed the irony in my post.

Gazzaniga should have a long hard look at himself after that. Professional goalkeeper? Seriously? That error was up there with Barts Golden Comedy Performance against Blackpool. And Marriner wont be happy with his performance when he sees Monks foul on Lallana.

Tbh only watched on a stream but there were 2 or 3 occassions when the ball was played back to a cb (yoshida in the case of the goal), when they played it back to gazza when there was an outlet left or right and I was shouting out "not back ffs".........I've noticed this quite a bit lately and i really don't see that this helps at all.......just puts unneccesary pressure on the keeper (whoever they are that particular week) that really isn't required.

I definitely thought Lallana did a much better job tracking back today, Cork was good, Ramirez much better than v WBA, Shaw was good, Fox did well when he came on. Bit disappointed with the lack of subs, think bringing Mayuka or JRod on for the last 15 minutes would have given us the injection of pace we needed. Could see us getting 7 points from next 3 games

A win on Saturday and we likely be a point off of safety (Sunderland play Sunday and Villa away to Citeh)

A couple of wins and it will start to look very different.

if we are still in touch by January we will be ok.

If I were 20 years younger and better looking I'd be married to Millie Clode now..........but I'm not :(
