Window Cleaner Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 So far 10 yellow and 0 Red cards, we're near the bottom of the league for that. In fact the bottom 3 are amongst the least "naughty" teams . Has behaving themselves been overplayed.
pingwing Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 It's been good to watch, no one wins games of football with 10/9 men on the pitch or with half the first team squad out with suspensions. Also encourages us to play proper football instead of the bitty nonsense that teams like West Ham peddle.
trousers Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 Seems to be the reverse in Spain...... Sour Mash Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 Completely agree we lack the required arrogance, confidence and aggression to do well in the Prem. That doesn't mean going around fouling oppossing players every couple of minutes, but we need to really get in the faces of the opposition. Adkins said himself yesterday we're in a 'dog fight'. We should look at Celtic's performance on Weds against Barca as an example of how we should play.

Window Cleaner Posted 9 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 9 November, 2012 Are Saints aggressive enough ? No Quite, Man U aren't cloggers but they've still got nearly double our cards. In fact with Morgan on 3 and Jos on 3 as well that leaves just 4 for all of the rest of the players. Given that Clyne got a card for taking his shirt off that leaves just 3 for however many players we've used this season. We do not tackle hard enough and we do not make ourselves unpleasant enough. No doubt there's some sort of fine system for cards in place. 4 yellows for (about) 95 mangames isn't enough.

rshephard3 Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 Against West Brom it was one of the most stand out problems for us, players all looked so weak compared to their players. I'm sad to say, last season we had the players relative to the level, to play past teams. Now, the same players are trying to play and getting beaten in every department, most notably outmuscled by every team we've played this season barring the second half against Villa. I read in one of last week's sports supplements that we've had 3 players booked for taking their shirt off in celebration this season, the most in the Prem. Fonte, Clyne and I can't remember the other off the top of my head. I guess when you're bottom of the league you might be inclined to celebrate your goals slightly more than you usually would... pingwing Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 Clyne didn't take his shirt off he was just booked for leaping the barrier and celebrating in the crowd at the bottom of block
MrWoody83 Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 I think we have lacked aggression for years, never really a side that gets in the oppositions faces which sometimes is our downfall. The football is good to watch but at times you need to be like West Ham / Stoke
Window Cleaner Posted 9 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 9 November, 2012 In fact only Sunderland and Man U have more tackles per game than us and we're pretty low down the fouls/game table as well. http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/3389/Stages/6531/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2012-2013

simo Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 I was saying the same thing the other day we lack a player that opponents fear someone who can tackle a player and make that player worry about getting tackled by them again!
Kingsland Red Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 I would say we are aggressive enough, however we are nowhere near incisive enough in the last third for all the possession we have, although listening to moaning fans on Talksh*te today, maybe no worse than Liverpool or Barcelona. Neil Posted 10 November, 2012 Share Posted 10 November, 2012 No I don't think we are anywhere near aggressive enough, I think we've been a bit of a soft touch for a whille now. As we're also not particularly good at keeping the ball (WBA more countless examples of coughing up possession) this is a problem. If we're not going to get more aggressive, we should start by keeping the ball a bit better at least, starting with today...
