Interesting Article on the BBC about judging teams after 10 games and some thoughts on this seasons PL

This bit is a worry though.

"The league table very rarely alters much between this point and May," former England manager Graham Taylor told BBC Sport.

"There are perhaps one or two sides who make a dramatic movement one way or the other, but that's about it."

Need to be the dramatic recovery team this season me thinks ...

Interesting...

- 53% of teams in the bottom three after 10 games have been relegated

- 50% of teams who were bottom after 10 games have avoided the drop

So a team that is bottom after 10 games is more likely to escape relegation than the other 2 teams in the relegation zone?

I like that he has compared us staying up this year as just as big a triumph as the two promotions... A lot of us need to remember that! We were one of the favourites to relegated yet people still feel our place is unjustified and Adkins is a terrible manager?! All we're doing is what we're suppose to be doing, we're not underachieving yet.!

My head hurts. So if 50% of the teams who were bottom have stayed up, 50% must have gone down. Does that only leave 3% for the other two teams?

No because the two percentages aren't inclusive. So the 47% of teams that were in the bottom 3 who haven't been relegated don't reflect on the 50% of teams who were bottom after 10 games and avoided relegation.

They are two separate events for the statics and can only be compared as separate events (ie we can't create new statics from them)

The interesting thing between them is that being bottom means we are slightly more likely statically to survive than being 2nd or 3rd bottom. Potentially this indicates that being bottom either creates a better impetus for beating the drop or (in our case) reflects comparatively harder fixtures (amongst other possibilities).

How many have played 8 games against the top 9, 5 away? Statistics mean nothing unless they are comparable.

No, think of it like this;

300 teams in the bottom three >> 159 of those teams have been relegated

As a subset of the original 300 teams, there were 100 teams in the bottom spot, 50 of those teams were relegated.

So statistically, if you are bottom, you are slightly more likely to stay up than if you were 18th or 19th. They are subsets of each other. It's a poor couple of stats to quote together really as they may not be perfect intersections of each other either. But you get the point.

That excuse would be so much better if we had picked up better results against the likes of Wigan,Fulham and WHU

Absolutely. What are we going to do, spend the whole season going 'it's ok to keep losing, the other teams are good'. Happy clappy s**t if you ask me. Adkins and Cortese know that too, hence a defeat to Swansea costing Nigel his job. Another 3 defeats in the next 4 games and the situation is irretrievable, and it would be a pretty lame way to bow out after such a fantastic period in our history.

Unless we sort the defense out and get some stability at the back, Then realistically I can't see us staying up that is not me being negative just realistic. Few players at this level clearly out of there depth the players I have concerns for are.

Goalkeeper not enough consistency we keep rotating the keeper, Gazz looks like a good shout his distribution skills are good.

Fonte - Looks a bit on edge at times

Danny Fox - Absolutely horrendous should be sold

Clyne - Ok so his good at bombing it forward and trying to start attacks that's all well but he needs to get back and defend

Hoov - Dire Shouldn't be playing at this level good at scoring goals though shame it's in his own net :)

Yosh - Few promising moments, but a bit iffy maybe needs more time to settle?

Bring in 2-3 experienced players, to tighten things up come Jan

Davis - Needs a kick up the ass gives the ball away way to much, passing needs work!

Rodriguez - Championship Player at best, needs more time to settle? either way I would Loan him out and get Sharp back

Schd - Again has been really iffy Hit / Miss

Promising Players

Lambert - Always will be a goal threat with decent service, good at holding up the ball, Good leadership why isn't he our captain?

Lallana - Can turn it on when required, Good creativity But needs to track back more to cover the left back.

Ramirez - Not fully fit but we all know what he will be capable of

Cork - I think we are missing him alot, Holds the ball up well and passing is needed in the engine room

Mayuka - Needs more games, looks a threat has the pace and isn't afraid to take players on

Punch - we have seen what he can be capable of when he turns it on, game against United player superb

Ward Prowse

Shaw
