Other youngsters looked okay in the weakened teams where as people have pointed out Shaw struggled. Do you think he should start?

Probably keep Fox for now with the odd bench appearance. I just don't agree with writing him off yet for this season due to past cameo cup appearances. I'm sure NA will play him when hes ready.

Posted
not sure why people don't think he is ready, Swansea have drafted in a youth left back and he has done really well by all accounts.

If they are good enough they are old enough.

Have you seen him play? If so, which games? And how did he perform?

I agree with your suggested approach, I just don't think he should be starting Premier League games yet.

The question is

Could he do any worse

And the answer is

No

Same questions to you as to the moderator genius? Have you seen Luke Shaw play? When? Where? How did he perform?

From the highlights, reviews and reports I've read I'm made my judgement. Can't say I've seen him in the flesh but you don't really need to these days.

Of course he could do worse, even world class players have off days, and this is a 17 year old academy lad.

He's no doubt got potential but Fox isn't an idiot, he's just out of his depth in a formation in which the full backs are horribly exposed. Asking a fresh face to be able to both adequately defend against a team that like us try to play on the floor and also provide a threat on the overlap is a massive ask.

And, while Fox may be limited, his dead ball delivery is directly responsible for 25% of all the points we have scored this season. Without him our set pieces are toothless.

What reports, Highlights and reviews? The cup game at Stevenage? The 7 minutes against WBA? Or was it His 13 minutes against Millwall last season or was it his brief appearance at Leeds this?

Posted
What % is he for contributing to goals conceded stato

I'm honestly not sure (I only knew the 25% thing because his dead balls supplied Fonte in the Fulham game), but as with all these things there are pro's and cons to all the decisions made. Fox may be a limited player but he is our set piece taker, if he wasn't the decision to drop him would be a great deal easier.

I want to see Shaw play, but there are negatives. Remembering that horrible 08/09 season; I don't want to see a promising career killed off before it's begun by being fast tracked into a car crash.

that...and his performances for the kids over the last couple of seasons. I'm actually one of those sad ****ers that reads and watches about the Saints youth games. Plus some geezers on here give some a decent review on games they have seen him in.

anyway thats me done on the subject, you can continue to try and 'win' the arguement somehow. night

So you are Saying that one cup game against a league one side and about 30 minutes of other action combined with some good performances against u18 teams mean he is good enough and for the premier league. Bizarre.

No..but I'm also saying don't think he isn't good enough.

Def last one.....I'll see how you twist that answer in the morning.

Maybe the answer is stick to the way we have been playing !

Stick to the same "quality" players that are performing each week getting us our results and putting us in our great league position .

Defiantly don't try anything new as it may result in us losing again.

And it could mean we drop more places in the league lol.

Maybe your right. Deffinatly don't give the lad a chance as Fox is having a blinder.

Sorry mate, but that's not what I said. This isn't a black and white issue, there are positives and negatives to both courses of action. I respect and understand your position in wanting to try him out though and for what it's worth I would like to see him play too.

If the midfield don't help the defence more, whoever plays at full back will get exposed to 2-on-1 situations every 5 mins

I'm sure all these questions will be answered over the coming months!

Lets hope which ever way it goes it is the answers we all want.

Changing the subject a little, I was concerned I was being paronoid about Fox being a pile if poo so I had a little look at Scotland fans forums.

And my suspicions were confirmed.

They all think he's a pile of **** to

So you're saying he's not good enough for international football? Good job we're only playing Swansea Saturday. Thanks for putting my mind at rest.

If that's the case why are people calling for new defenders in January ?

Maybe we should keep the same defenders and buy new midfielders lol

Or maybe we should put rickie in centre midfield as some think hahaha

Maybe rickie can play gk, cb , cm and cf!!

At least we know when he plays cm Rodriguez will bang in the goals like rickie!

Only playing swansea?

In my opinion swansea would have no problem turning over Scotland given the chance.

They are a quality side.

WHEN DID YOU SEE LUKE SHAW PLAY?

HOW DID HE DO?

WHO WAS IT AGAINST?

I feel I'm repeating myself here.

Posted

Sorry didn't notice your demands

I've seen him play a few times for the joeys

And thought he played well against Stevenage when we best them with ease.

But that doesn't compare really as the premier league is a different ball game

I've seen enough to know he won't struggle and has potential to be a great player. If we can keep him.

What silly questions.

You don't have to see a player actually play to realise he's brilliant. Hype is where it's at.

So you saw enough of him against L1 opposition to know he'd be fine in the premier league now?

F*ck off mate; that's a horrible thing to say. This dude knows what he's talking about FFS.

I'm a sucker for the hype! I can often tell a player is great just from hype and seeing him play for 5 minutes. I remember hearing all bout Walcott and then seeing him for the first time against Wolves first game in the Championship and straight away I knew he was gonna be a top player.

Not all people is having my skills though!

Posted

Maybe you should have a word with a few of the big clubs that are keeping a close eye on him as you obviously know something there scouting teams don't.

These lower league oppositions turdish are just way below our level arnt they! Having a good game against a lower league team just means nothing doesn't it!?

Shows how little you know to be honest.

We played a blinder against a certain ( lower league opposition) team this season didn't we lol

Also I can understand your worries with us fielding 17 year old kids as everyone knows our academy set up is pants and our abilility to produce quality young players is poor.

Also it shows your lack of confidence in our management team. Do you think he would even be in the squad let alone on the bench if he wasn't good enough. These people work With him everyday so I guess they may have a good idea if he is good enough!?

You're my new favourite poster. Superb stuff.

If he's good enough, he's old enough. Walcott, Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain all did ok despite early debuts in struggling teams in whatever league and proved to be premier league quality. From what I've seen of him and the fact that big clubs are already sniffing around, he could be another star. Why not give him a try? We can sell him for a lot more when we get relegated if he's started a few games ;-)

I see MLT was putting his footballing knowledge on display again last night.

I do enjoy a good MLT thread, soon becoming more exciting than a miltonroader thread.
