One gig you wish you'd been at

some gig that would have avoided me being dragged to see the Bay City Rollers at the Gaumont, anyone anywhere that would have saved me from that ignominy, think I had to go in disguise in case I saw anyone I knew, ah the crazy things you're prepared to do for women.

This sounds eerily familiar. I wore a large hat, upturned collar and read a paper, sat in the stalls, whilst girlfriend and mates kicked lumps out of the security.

In fact I was pretty chuffed when one of them ran over a granny in his Mustang, meant I would never have to see them again...anywhere. I mean when you've seen The Stones in Hyde Park, done Cream's Last concert, know a couple of lads from Tull, been there done that at the Isle of Wight and Bath...well the Bay City Rollers is just shameful, jeez I must have been smitten, mind you the blow jobs...out of this world.

At the time I had the same feelings about having to see David Essex @ pompey guildhall. Fell out with the gf at the time and ended up with 2 tickets..... so talked a mate into not wasting the money

Turned out we were the only two single lads in the place surrounded by about 2,000 screaming frottaging on arm rests of seats teenagers.

Oh what a night and morning and afternoon and and and

My big miss was Faithless here in Dubai. Mate had arranged freebies I meh'd.

Turned out mate knew the tour manager, they watched from the side of the stage and well to cut a long story short stayed partying with the band in the hotel then got taken to KL & Bangkok on "tour" for 6 days. They even got the lads on stage in KL as backing singers.

(I got my own back eventually but that's a different thread)

They have NEVER let me forget it

The worst thing about this is i was at Glastonbury in 2000.dont know what happened (i blame the LSD)

He was brilliant, just as the sun was going down. He had some really hot female musician on stage but i can't for the life of me remember what she played - I blame the cider!

Any Nirvana gig (I had tickets for Brixton when he killed himself, grrrrrr, selfish cvnt)

Ha saw em at Reading ;-)

just wish the Pixes stage had not collapsed in Glasgow.... would have been a good un judging by the first number...

Would have like to see Dylan back in 65 when he first went electric... had to wait until 87 when he was with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers which was pretty cool

Lucky to be able to say, I have not really missed anything.... ;-)

The IoW 1970 to see Hendrix-all my mates went but I was in Oslo.

Cream's Farewell Concert-I saw them at Man Uni but missed this one.

The Stax tour in 67-68, to see Otis Redding and the rest.

The Rolling Stones when they played Winchester Lido Ballroom in 1964.

For some reason I feel most gutted about missing the Tubes in London in July this very year. Ive seen them five times, including New York on my 50th birthday last august, but this july in leicester square is likely to have been their last UK show. I hope not, but given their ages and the fact that one of the guitarists is already dead, it seems likely. We had already booked a family holiday when the UK date was announced, just couldnt alter it or even realistically fly back for the day. Still gutted now, tbh.

I wasn't alive but have the Hendrix at IOW festival on DVD. Would love to have been there.

Had tickets to one of Michael Jacksons first O2 gigs. Still deviated he died before that. Loved his music growing up.

Had tickets for Michael Jackson here in Dubai in around 94/95. While he was on the SE Asian leg the first accusations of child abuse stories broke and the tour was cancelled. I was very upset but luckily I never became a deviant :-)

one of the great advantages of beng older...top bands still played Unis and you got to see them all for virtually nowt. With a bit of hitch hiking about a week-ends, staying with your school friends at their Unis you got to see them all . Big blow outs like Bath and the Isle of Wight helped. 40/50 top bands in the space of 3 days for very little money.

Oasis at the Joiners just so I could say I was there. Or Knebworth. Or Maine Road. Or anywhere.

Spike Island.

That Sex Pistols gig in Manchester in 1976.

Joy Division.

Would have loved to have seen the Clash. Closest I'll get is seeing Mick Jones play a few Clash songs in the Hillsborough Justice Band at Heaton Park before the Stone Roses gig.

Seems about 90% of music I like was at its best before I was born or when I was too young to appreciate it.
