Morale...has Gastons pay package had an affect?

After rumours that he is on circa £60k a week, and people criticising players like Lambert for being disinterested, has Ramirez's 'bumper' pay packet had an affect on the side?

Personally I think Gaston is quality, and once fully fit will really show what a top quality player and prospect (we have to remember he is still only 21) we have, but has he been worth potentially disrupting the harmony in the squad.

Thoughts?

I dont. If you want to bring in good players they cost more. Ramirez is one of the top young players in Europe and a full international for a top footballing nation. If Rickie Lambert is upset Ramirez is on more then ask him to bring his international caps along to his pay review.

if he was **** then the players might ask WTF? But he quite clearly is decent. Where do you get that £60k a week figure from? I seem to recall the initial Italian story said £38k a week, but maybe gross and net comes into play?

A lot of new faces in the team quite a few without English as their first language I could see that having knocking effect on the team. For some of the old hands seeing a few of your old team mates getting moved on while others are reduced to hanging out on the edges of the squad could result in changes to the close knit squad the team seemed to be before.

he is not on 60k. around about 40k which is standard rate for a quality player at mid/lower table teams. i recall adkins describing him as a "world class"talent when we signed him so on that basis the other players should be grateful we got a player of that quality on a comparatively low wage.

just think joe cole is on £600 per hour.

I doubt his pay package has had an effect. But I would suggest he hasnt - so far - been worth the money and even if we relegate there is no way we'll see half of what we paid for him back.

Some of our players need to start firing on all cylinders - and he's one of them.

He's played under 3 games for us - was MOTM in one, scored in another and was returning from a lengthy layoff in the other.

How do you know he is not on £60k? He was meant to be on £38k a week after tax.

No. Every player who talks about the club says he's good and they aren't likely to be on the same wage as Rooney (who they probably also think is good), even thought they'd like the paypacket.

He was not so good partly on Monday because WBA double or triple-tagged him and as MS and the short, not very-good bloke from Northern Ireland didn't show for him very much he essentially got crowded out while looking for the (non-existant) pass. The forwards also didn't do much as everyone either ball-watched or ran away from the ball like they were 8 or 9 year olds.

To effect (vb) - to bring into effect or make happen: To affect (vb) to alter, change or modify in some fashion. Now almost obsolete due to the preponderence of the wholly-inappropriate 'impact' (because all people can do is copy off wot they saw even if they don't know what it was, but everybody's doing it, right?).

Over to whoever for the next lesson ... .

He should probably a second nationality as well.

Totally agree, but maybe on a personal level his nose is out of joint ? Should spur hom to do better really ? Perhaps he just has gone too far and this isnt his level ?

On the other hand maybe Rickie could just bring a DVD of his 92 saints goals in a 165 apperances and say "what the f uck have international caps got to do with it my goals have got you two promotions in three seasons"..............:D

No. The players will be more than happy to have a world class player in the squad.

The guy is a quality 21 year old international.

We stole him for £14m, and will double our money when we sell him.

He was fantastic against Villa but then was injured in training.

WBA was his first game for 5 weeks.

Give the guy a chance FFS !!!

  • 3 weeks later...
Haven't see any evidence of this, his goal was celebrated by the whole team yesterday.

Lallana was very postive about him after the game, you cans ee all the players love having his class in the team - gives us a better chance of staying up and therefore the rest of the players a better chance of carrying on earning Prem money!

He's probably a bloody good wing man in 90 degrees as well. Nothing to see here IMO

I think we can close this thread now.

If you look at Gastons reactions when we score, when teammates miss chances it is genuin teamspirit reactions. I specially loved his cheers on the bench against QPR when we scored the third. He looks a really genuin bloke. Very unlike many other southamerican players in my opinion.....
