doddisalegend Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 I See Charlie Austin has scored 20 goals already this season http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20237543 Would he cut it in the PL? ...is he better than J-Rod? Should we have bid for Austin instead? Always thought he was a bit of a c unt...but that might just be becuse he always seems to score against us:)
Thedelldays Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 seeing as we were consistently one of (at least the 2nd best team) ..i doubt anyone else in the NPC is good enough...seeing as ALL our players are utter rubbish..and nothing to do with the manager......apparently
Colbury Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 He is a complete helmet however you can't argue with his goal scoring record. He's score bag loads in both L1 and the championship. Ridiculous to think he was playing for Poole against the likes of Blackfield and Langley 3 years ago. He is very much a Billy Sharp type forward though i.e. offers little else other than having the knack of being in the right place at the right time to stick the ball in the net from 6 yards. He hasn't got a great deal of pace or a good first touch and no team seems to want that sort of forward in the prem..

A good finisher but wouldn't get a look in against most Premier League defences.

Holt and Lambert have done ok but Jay Bothroyd (who got in the England squad whilst playing for Cardiff) is now back in the championship are being a bit of a flop last season.
S-Clarke Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 Austin has a great record, but is very ''billy sharp-esque''. Comes alive in the box, and doesn't do a lot in the build up. I agree with others, he's in the mold of being one of those cracking lower league/championship goal scorers, who'd do an ''okish'' job in the PL but wouldn't get a hell of a lot better. Jay Rodriguez has much more to his game in my opinion, and in time I believe he will turn out to be the better buy. Just my opinion though.
SuperMikey Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 I was also going to make the Billy Sharp comparison, but I see all bases have been covered there. So i'll just agree.

Yea I am sort of with you on this but my fingers are crossed.
sammysaint Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 We should of kept Sharp and spent the money on a LB, and maybe a CB.

Spot on, that's the player I've seen although Billy is very unlucky to be out on loan when we have utter wastes of time like Lee in the squad who seems to have Darren Anderton's fitness record minus 99.9% of the talent. Mate of mine is a Swindon fan and said that Austin was a bad influence towards the end of his time there and allegedly played a key role in undermining Danny Wilson, hence Burnley got a good deal. He's apparently more than a bit of a lad off the pitch as well.
scotty Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 J Rod is absolutely loaded with potential, and imo a far better signing than Austin would ever have been. Add their respective temperaments into the equation and its a no-brainer.
LeBenali Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 Austin's agent has been talking to Liverpool in the past couple of weeks....we may see in January whether he can cut the mustard in the Prem!
S-Clarke Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 Austin's agent has been talking to Liverpool in the past couple of weeks....we may see in January whether he can cut the mustard in the Prem! If true, Brendon Rogers is slowly turning Liverpool into an NPC team.
egg Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 J Rod is absolutely loaded with potential, and imo a far better signing than Austin would ever have been. Add their respective temperaments into the equation and its a no-brainer. Spot on. J Rod is a very decent player. Much more complete than Austin and given time in his favoured role, and some decent service, he'll be fine.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 7 November, 2012 Posted 7 November, 2012 I think we bought the wrong player - full stop.
pimpin4rizeal Posted 8 November, 2012 Posted 8 November, 2012 all i have seen from jrod so far is a player who runs about a lot, he doesnt beat players hasnt got the strength to hold the ball to be honest he looks like a boy trying to play a mans game. i havent been at all impressed so far
dickyhale Posted 8 November, 2012 Posted 8 November, 2012 No we could off had Charlie Boy from Poole Town for fifty thousand pounds but the DONUT in charge Jan Poortvliet did not think it was worth watching him he then signed for Swindon then sold to Burnley for 1.7m....Another one slips the net
the stain Posted 8 November, 2012 Posted 8 November, 2012 Ridiculous statement to suggest that we'd be better off with Austin. Some players are simply not good enough for top flight football.

I always find it odd that people complain about strikers who don't do anything but score....I'd be a lot happier with J-rod if he did less running around and more scoring
Turkish Posted 8 November, 2012 Posted 8 November, 2012 The Reading and someone else Helmets in my office reckon he's signing for them, they also reckon they are getting Charlie Adam and Steve Sidwell.
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 November, 2012 Posted 8 November, 2012 The Reading and someone else Helmets in my office reckon he's signing for them, they also reckon they are getting Charlie Adam and Steve Sidwell. ?!? The two regular newish signings for their respective teams ? Do me a favour
Turkish Posted 8 November, 2012 Posted 8 November, 2012 ?!? The two regular newish signings for their respective teams ? Do me a favour This is what they told me today. Strange ain't it. They might be getting confused with their other teams though.
Bucks Saint Posted 9 November, 2012 Posted 9 November, 2012 In reply to the OP, some Burnley fans were on the BBC site yesterday responding to suggestions that Austin should be in the England squad (to try him out). They were firmly of the opinion that he is not anywhere close to good enough and said "he is certainly not better than Jay Rod, who has yet to get going in the PL". It was about current ability rather than potential but I hope that helps
