alpine_saint Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 Even Alpine was sane enough to concede that this theory might be the product of a 'vivid imagination' Erm, no, actualy. A few on here believe NA has insisted that he do things his way for a bit. My "vivid imagination" referred more to my level of detail as to how the discussion went. I do believe some sort of understanding has been reached where NA goes it alone and takes responsibility for it.
Turkish Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 where does it say that? He's going to do things differently. Ie not listen to the lunatic dwarf telling him who to play. It would be interesting to see if that applies to Guly and his 15 minutes minimum. We might find ourselves with a legal case for breach of contract if he doesn't feature. ericb Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 Funny this idea that Adkins has been given full reign at the club is the polar opposite to what i've heard from people within it. From what i've heard he has a stay of execution of three weeks (effectively given his notice) and Cortese is actively searching for a replacement. To be honest i totally trust those sources and think he's probably a dead man walking, but i still think it's a monumental fu.ck up on Cortese's part. Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 From the OS http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/adkins-implements-change-of-routine-474988.aspx The bits in bold definitely reinforce my opinion that he's demanded to do things entirely his own way and told others to butt out. I actually feel pretty positive ahead of the Swansea game. Same here. If we can get back to exactly what Adkins wants to do, and not being influenced, then perhaps we can start picking up our performance.

derry Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 Well, I wasn't going to go on Saturday (I have work) but feck it, I'm going to move that to Sunday and go and support Nigel. Whatever you think about his tactics and selection, the bloke DESERVES your support while he is still there. And who knows, he might yet do a Ferguson. I hope he does. He's earned the right to be successful. Spot on and he's earned the right to see it through but only if he is manager without interference. Otherwise he should just walk. Charlie Wayman Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 Well, having been across the channel for a week but herad the WBA result, really thought Adkins would be history by now. So what's the problem and why the change of heart? Saints under Adders just aren't good enough yet Cortese is persisting? It doesn't add up, so my guess is he can't get the Roberto's he really wants - de Matteo and Martinez are doing very well thank. I hear he is pals with both. So where from here? Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 Nigel Adkins:- I would say that for most of the fans, that is true. However, there appears to be quite a few on here who want Adkins sacked, regardless of the fact that they offer little in the way of intelligent suggestions as to the alternative candidates who are either able or willing to come here and take over and do a better job. Perhaps the appearance is given that many wish Adkins gone because they are a minority, but a very vocal one. Maybe others who hold the contrary view don't post as often, because they are fed-up with being ridiculed and insulted whenever they dare to disagree with those who believe themselves to be always right, when often opinions by either side are based purely on rumour, or conjecture. You only have to look a few posts above this one to see the polarised views on the relationship between Adkins and Cortese, again all without foundation. It was the opinion of many of the doom and gloom brigade that Adkins would already have been sacked and it has not happened. Presumably these people are now disappointed that their prophecies or wishes have not come to fruition. I still hold the opinion that Adkins deserves a chance to see whether he can turn things around and I believe that he can. But he shouldn't be undermined by supposed Saints fans clamouring for his head, especially if they don't have a credible replacement for him in mind. The irony of this sentence is beautiful. You think that it is those that want Adkins to stay that get ridiculed? Yeah, nice one.

shirleysfc Posted 8 November, 2012 Share Posted 8 November, 2012 Im glad Nigel has finally had the balls to tell Cortese to wind his neck in and butt out of team affairs. I'm glad to see that if he's going to go, he gets carried out on his shield with his sword in hand rather than going down with a wimper. It might also get used to Cortese being told where to go by a new manager who wont stand for it. Good news allround. Lolz

However, if you believe that it is the people supporting Adkins that have been criticised and abused for their way of thinking then you have definitely been turning a blind eye to it. But hey, that's your prerogative I suppose. Yes I have been vocal, but only because I saw very early on in the Summer that there was something wrong. I'm sorry that the rest of you were so myopic, I really am. We'll see what happens, and I really hope NA turns it around, I honestly do, but in my opinion there is something very wrong about the way we are doing things. Either way that doesn't mean that you have to come on this thread and spout bull about abuse. If you want I am happy to post the masses of abuse I have received on threads based on me questioning NA, or NC, or whatever, to prove my point. And then you can do the same and we'll add them up? However, Martinez could be interesting IF the end of the road really is near for Nige. Martinez has done a quality job at Swansea and Wigan and seemingly would fit the bill perfectly for what NC wants in a manager. If we had to make a change he may be the ideal candidate. Would be worth paying whatever is needed and NC probably would be prepared to do so, however, Dave Whelan would take a lot of convincing to let him go as we all know. Somehow DW fought off LFC to keep him, but Martinez won't be at Wigan for ever and a suitable replacement would presumably be a key issue. Like, shall we say, a young up and coming manager with a superb CV of success in the FL who many believe is ready for PL success in the right circumstances. Oh, and if that manager happened to be a former Wigan player then so much the better. Perhaps we may end up with that rarest of things, a manager swop ... SaintRobbie Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 I'm in a real quandary now. Having started to advocate that perhaps Nige isnt up to the job and we should genuinely think of punting on Harry Redknapp to save our season and Premiership status, I find this decision comforting. NA is outstanding, no doubts. Perhaps as others have posted a quick year in the Premiership and relegation with NA and a stronger team may be acceptable after all. Don't get me wrong. This game is all about WINNING, and at the moment NA is a loser. But, there is something comforting and optimistic about him staying. Perhaps enough is enough. We've all become frustrated with NAs lack of success, but he's staying and putting him and his team under more pressure is not going to help. So, can I suggest ALOT of singing for Nigel at the next game. He's a Saint and he's staying. ITS TIME FOR US ALL TO SUPPORT HIM. We've won too many games this past 2 years to remember that most seasons in the PL were about staying up - lets get back to what we do best. Support our team and sing our hearts out. NA is staying. So is my support for him. Adkins - do it mate. Get this defence sorted and let's 4-4-2 ourselves with Lambert upfront to victory. COYR
trousers Posted 9 November, 2012 Share Posted 9 November, 2012 Seeing that Daily Mail articles are in favour today.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2230493/Gordon-Strachan-wanted-Southampton.html Scotland's hopes of landing Gordon Strachan as their new manager are under threat from gathering interest in the former Celtic boss by struggling Southampton. The Saints are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with manager Nigel Adkins treading on very thin ice heading into Saturday's visit of Swansea to St Mary's. Strachan, who managed the south coast club from 2001 to 2004, is being courted for a return to St Mary's by Saints chairman Nicola Cortese, according to The Sun.
