In the word of the great Bobby Robson

What is a club in any case?

Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.

It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.

It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

1. A person who approves of and encourages someone or something (typically a public figure, a movement or party, or a policy).

2. A person who is actively interested in and wishes success for a particular sports team.

3. A person who sits behind a keyboard and moans 24/7.

Please moan if you´re not happy with performances etc, but NEVER humiliate your own players/manager/staff by mocking them during games.

THAT´s not a fan from my point of view.

Define: Customer - A person or organization that buys goods or services from a store or other business. nb. The customer will usually expect the quality of goods or services provided to reflect the amount of money paid.

If you give over your hard earned cash and go to games then you must be a 'supporter' in every sense of that term that makes any sense. If the OP is of the opinion that to be a real supporter you must also hold the same set of views as some other supporters do re the running of their club, then he is very much mistaken.

Whether they back the team or moan when the going gets tough, a paying supporter is someone on whom the club depends.

Whether they back the team or moan when the going gets tough, a non-paying supporter is simply someone expressing an opinion; they are of little or no consequence to the club.

That last line strikes a chord with me, that's exactly how it happened. It was at Craven cottage though, not the Dell.
