Nigel Adkins Appreciation Thread

Let's face it, the guy is probably on borrowed time.

Stories seem to be gathering pace of his imminent departure.

Personally, I really don't want the guy to go. For me, he is a bona fide Saints hero - 2 promotions in 2 seasons is a fantastic achievement at any level.

I must also admit I am kind of surprised he is actually still here, given not just results but performances.

I hope this is premature, and I'm still unsure as to whether anyone else can do better, but should the axe fall, I think our Nige deserves to be remembered fondly.

So, if this is your swansong Nige, thanks for all the memories - and presiding over 2 of the best years in my time as a saint.

I really can't believe how childishly posters such as Delldays are calling for his head, as if changing the manager now is going to magically make our squad better.

What I saw last night was not pretty, I'll admit. But personally I lay the large chunk of the blame with the players. We were bullied out of the game by a better, more organised and, most importantly, physically stronger team. It didn't matter what formation or tactics Nigel went with, the group of players we have are just too lightweight to compete.

Added to that is the fact that certain players are failing in their most basic duties ( for example, Lallana as a LW not bothering to track back and cover the LB when required; and S. Davis in CM not even bothering to put in a single tackle all game). Maybe I'm naive but I fail to see how sacking the manager now is going to resolve that.

I'm more than happy to stick with Nigel and build for the future, because I genuinely believe that we can become a very strong team with him at the helm. But the simple fact is we over-achieved last season (not that I'm complaining about that) meaning the step up to the PL has been too much for a large chunk of the squad. Given that NA's long-term plan has always been about stability and team-spirit, replacing most of the first team in the close season would probably have been equally as disastrous as using players that are not (yet) up to it.

In Nigel I trust. And I'm getting pretty bored of reading the same old reactionary drivel from the usual suspects every time we concede a goal.

It's only a game.

.

why is it childish...of course changing a manager will make a difference

also, why is it a FACT that we over achieved last season...when were you put in charge of deciding that?

as for reactionary drivel...I assume you have never ever wanted a manager ever to be replaced..as not many have got (if at all) a worse top flight record

Sorry Nigel, but it seems that some people have condemned you after only 25% of the games played....but forget about all those clubs at the top end of the Prem. who beat us. They say were s**t anyway.

I hate to see you go. There is surely a long list of clubs (with more patient fans) who will greet you with open arms - and only waiting for you to show up with the P45 in your hand.

Thanks for your enthusiasm and good humour. Wherever you go to... will become my second team.

Nevertheless, thanks for the best two consecutive seasons I can remember in my 50 years as a Saints fan.

He's not going anywhere, yet.

I'm very loyal towards him, and I find it hard to really call for him to go as I think he's such a top bloke. He's been a huge success for us in even getting us here, but you do need to take a look at what's going on this year and you wonder if he's got here too quickly, as well as the team.

I think he'll make a good PL manager in time, hopefully it's with us, but the clock is certainly ticking.

To be honest I'd prefer to have him at the helm during these crucial 4 weeks than a 2-week caretaker period and then a new manager, for me...that will just make us even more rudderless during a time where we need to get the results. I'd trust Nigel and I am fully behind him for what will be a huge 4 weeks.

Let's all re-group and bloody well start this flaming season already.

Perhaps we should send him out on loan for a while.

Is that allowed?
