rumours of Adkins being Sacked

This has to happen.

We have the second worse defence in premier league history.

If we continue at this rate, we will finish the season on 15 points.

We are completely disorganised when we don't have the ball.

Our new signings aren't improving the team enough, or at all.

whether adkins or les reed or both go I don't care, but something has to change.

Your clueless. Changing the manager will do absolutely nothing but upset everything we have built up over the last 2-3 years.

We'll be back to square one; new formations, new style. Players will have to get used to all that.

Sacking the manager is the worst way to solve our current situation.

Its beyond me why people think sacking a manager is the answer. Personally I think its the only option simpletons can think of.

SkyGraemeBailey has tweeted there will be an update on SSN shortly!

They mentioned it about 20 minutes ago. The jist of it was that NA has told SSN that he hasn't heard anything from the club and is currently preparing the side for Swansea. They did say they'd have more later this afternoon which fits in with Graeme Bailey's tweet.

I reckon if we canned Adkins and give Redknapp the job we'd be more likely to stay up.

Not that I'm saying do it, I'm quite happy if we want to take our chances and stick with Adkins. Also so he gets his chance to take a team to Anfield. He's so looking forward to that!

When I dared to mention my aprehensions over Adkins supposedly being here longterm I was hung drawn and quartered.

He was doomed to failure in the pen, from the moment he was appointed.

Such a shame,probably a nice fella.

Nigel Adkins in his car:

Is there anything you can tell us, are you still the Southampton manager?

"I can't wait to still be the Southampton manager, I love being the Southampton manager, I said that last night."

Will you be in charge on Saturday?

"I hope so."

Still smiling, but rambling. Looked uneasy.

Nigel Adkins speaking on SPNews shortly apparently.

Just happened.

For those who blinked & missed it, it went something like this:

Adkins pulls up with car window open-

Sky: Are you still Southampton manager?

Nige: Yes

Sky: Will you still be southampton manager for swansea game Saturday?

Nige: I hope so (smiles and drives off)

That's a funny thing to say ain't it. Sounds like he's waiting on a decision.

Very odd. Sounds like he has a meeting to confirm he has an extension, or at least a stay of execution. I do hope he stays now.

We are bottom of the prem league , we have the worst goals against record ever , we have 4 points , we are easy to beat , we have spent 30 million on players , we are a joke! So being a simpleton when do you sack a manager ?

Ask Tony Fernandez?

What if we cant afford to sack him and Crosby?

Really hope Nige gets through to Sat and we get a home win and kick on from there.

However if not I would be keen for the club to look at Biesla given our "southampton way" methodology and his understanding of how we are trying to play, i really do think he could be achievable as a target manager given the below circumstances plus we would give him more funds and a new challenge in Jan and he would also buy in to building a unique football club that would play his way long after he retires a la Cruyff at Barca:

Marcelo Biesla:

Current Club: Althetic Bilbao who got to the final of the Europa cup last year.

He is a former defender for Argentina, manager of Argentina and Chile at world cups (Chilean team was raved about a few years ago) so will get the players respect and attract new ones.

He has fallen out with the President for selling Martinez and the fact that the new training facilites were not ready on time for pre-season, he blew a gasket and shoved the contractors (we could use him there as well)

They are nearly out of Europe this year and most likely won't qualify for next year's

He gets paid peanuts as coaches in spain outside of Barca and Real dont earn anywhere near as much as English managers.

Based on what I've read he is excellent at getting the most out of players who are being played out of position something we will have to live with until Jan.

Guardiola is one of his disciples and he went to Argentina to talk to Biesla prior to accepting the Barca post and calls him the worlds best coach.

He likes to play 3-3-1-3 (3 Centre Backs, 2 Wing backs and a Defensive Midfielder, 1 Attacking Midfielder and 3 up front, which i think personally looks a good fit for our playing talent).

He focusing on playing a high tempo pressing game (I know Adkins is trying to do the same but with a slightly different formation which is leaving gaps).

Tactics:

His signature formation of 1-3-3-1-3 would give us an extra man in defence with 2 rows of 3 rather than 5 (4 back line and spiderman).

This will the compress the space when the balls enters our half of the pitch and it also the wing backs closer to the wingers and it could look like the following:

Gazza

Fonte - Hooiveld - Yoshida

Clyne - Spiderman - Shaw/Fox

Davis/Cork

Ramirez - Lambert- Lallana

Good coverage of his tactics - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1381408-why-marcelo-bielsa-employ-the-most-bizarre-tactics-in-football

Does the Barcelona model look undone with the change in their manager this year?

Surely that is the WHOLE point of a strategy. It is 100% manager agnostic.

Lol, will take the evidence of two very successful seasons as evidence that you writing him off as bad manager was wrong. As opposed to underperforming, marginally, in handful of prem games proving you right.

Talksport discussing of now. Saying good manager, sacking would be panic and knee jerk.

Good manager and still best option in my view.

I love Adkins. I'd rather we went down and he stayed. Deserves at least until the end of the season.

This and, whilst it won't mean anything to anyone else, if Redknapp were to be appointed because Nigel was sacked, that would be the end of my support. I couldn't support a club that employed a snake in the wood pile in preference to someone who comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke.

This! Fed up with hearing on here how Nigel has spent 30million on the players we bought! Do you seriously think the majority were his signings? I bet none of them were on his shopping list!

I think he will have the Swansea game and if the players can't play their hearts out and get a win and then he's toast. Wrong IMO and I can't see an acceptable replacement at the moment unless Cortese can pull a rabbit out of the hat with his Italian connections.

I agree completely... Nigel is the man.

I fell out of love with big time football years back, I was dancing in the streets when we went up from League 1, had a small smile to offer for promotion out of the NPC but little enthusiasm...

The NPC is the league for me, decent clubs, good quality, fair(ish) value, real football and real fans.

Nigel brings integrity, spirit, professionalism and honesty... now think of someone like redknapp and his kind...

Let Nigel drive the bus, I have my oar ready.

Reading this you realise that Colin had it right, with all his "failures" to get Sheff Utd promoted despite being in prime promotion position mid-season.

A trip to Wembley end of every season (for the play-offs) and then back to winning ways in the NPC/League 2 the season after.

Cracking post fella, really informative and actually reminded me of why I visit football forums when I get a chance. Was at Athletic Club's ground last week, brilliant location slap bang in the middle of town and looks like a proper dive from the outside (couldn't go inside as the tours/ shop etc were shut due to their 4hr lunch break).

Athletic Club are a huge club though, basically a national side (Basque) so would need a hell of an offer to get him here, also with the cultural differences, time to adapt formations/ players and the unwillingness of fans in this country to go anything other than 442 it would be tough to convince him.

Cortese, though, is ambitious for Southampton to eventually compete in the top half of the Premier League and has grown increasingly concerned by recent results.

Considering that NC keeps his counsel very much to himself where has this journo got his information from??

After the end of this month, we have played all the top sides except Chelsea, no one who has experienced saints in the top flight before expected us to be in anything other than a relegation fight, problem is it looks like it will be down to the 15000 hardcore to lead the fight as the JCL start to moan
