Saint-Armstrong Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Retweeted by Nabil Hassan of the BBC: "Nigel Adkins is now the 9/1 second favourite @BetVictorFans for the vacant Blackpool job. He's also 5/4 to be the first PL manager to leave." Is Appleton still the favourite?
alpine_saint Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Adkins and Blackpool would be a good match, imo. He's back on safe territory with a proven track record at that level, they get a superb manager for that level. NC gets rid of NA, no big payout due to amicable mutual separation recognising the achievements of their working together without rancour. Everyones a winner
thorpie the sinner Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Rob Jones @msnsportrob Hearing strong rumours that Southampton have sacked Nigel Adkins.

Spudders Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Rob Jones @msnsportrob Hearing strong rumours that Southampton have sacked Nigel Adkins. I'm much more likely to beleive a strong rumour over just a normal rumour. A strong rumour is a step away from a weak fact.

jayrivers Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Err not quite Who would you replace NA with, people calling for his head don't seem to be paying this small detail much attention. This is the biggest thing for me. I think we should keep him. Firstly I like him and think he can turn it around. Secondly I don't see who would be able to do a better job? And please don't say Redknapp. He is completely the wrong manager for our club and what we are trying to do!
alpine_saint Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Err not quite Who would you replace NA with, people calling for his head don't seem to be paying this small detail much attention. Dunc, I have called for Hoddle several times.
alpine_saint Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Rob Jones @msnsportrob Hearing strong rumours that Southampton have sacked Nigel Adkins. Uh-oh...
thorpie the sinner Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 I'm much more likely to beleive a strong rumour over just a normal rumour. A strong rumour is a step away from a weak fact. Ditto lol, Just thought I would post it as the guy is from msn, ie press related! Hopefully totally wrong
alpine_saint Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 apart from Saints IMO You dont know that. Last time NC changed manager it worked wonders.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Dunc, I have called for Hoddle several times. Bit like me Alpine, yesterday's man!
Saint Garrett Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 BBC Solent Sport @solentsport Deal to take #pompey boss Michael Appleton to Blackpool hinges on two clubs agreeing compensation @solentsport understands
Weston Saint Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Cortese should hold his nerve. As long as the players have confidence in Adkins he should be given time.
Miltonroader07 Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 If NA does get the sack he should get an open-top bus tour around the town so that we can all respect what he has done for SFC, I just dont think he is up to the Premier League IMO
Bearsy Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Tempted to stick a little bet on Adkins getting replaced by Redknapp.
thorpie the sinner Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Cortese should hold his nerve. As long as the players have confidence in Adkins he should be given time. TBF, players dont look like they are performing for him anymore! Either that or we are just not good enough
Badger Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 BBC Solent Sport @solentsport Deal to take #pompey boss Michael Appleton to Blackpool hinges on two clubs agreeing compensation @solentsport understands Wonder how long it will take Miltoroader to start an NA to Skates thread.
The Kraken Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Cortese should hold his nerve. As long as the players have confidence in Adkins he should be given time. The question is; do they?
OldNick Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Cortese should hold his nerve. As long as the players have confidence in Adkins he should be given time. hand on heart do you believe that the players have full confidence in NA? i suspect a lot of them would have lost a bit of faith how things have panned out. I was impressed with his interview after the game, but then after thinking about the game and others before i went back thinking he is lost in this league. If we dont change manager in the next 48hours we have to stick with him until next season. Waiting til after the next 2 games could mean a gap of 8-9 points. 2 games that could be won would have gone and a new man worth his salt will not risk their reputation on a lost cause
captainchris Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Cortese should hold his nerve. As long as the players have confidence in Adkins he should be given time. Did the players look as though they still had confidence in him last night????
SuperSAINT Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Cortese should hold his nerve. As long as the players have confidence in Adkins he should be given time. Spot on. And if Cortese really is influencing stuff behind the scene's, who the heck are we going to get that will tolerate that?
lordswoodsaints Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 (edited) Adkins needs replacing with a manager that can instill confidence in the players we have and attract a different class of player in January......if cortese is content with relegation then keep Adkins if he wants to survive and push on next season then redknapp is your man The Blackpool job would suit Adkins as long as we can have ince and Phillips. Edited 6 November, 2012 by lordswoodsaints
egg Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 I'm pretty sure he's on his way, and could see Strachan coming in. Blackpool would be a good move for NA. The timing of Scotland sacking is interesting. I reckon the sweaties want Strachan and are aware that others want him too.
Marino Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Bit like me Alpine, yesterday's man! Redknapp, Hoddle , Benitez et al - all yesterday's men.
Thedelldays Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Redknapp, Hoddle , Benitez et al - all yesterday's men. redknapp yesterdays man....oh my life...he finished 4th in the league 6 months ago...
Saint Garrett Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 ***** Redknapp. I'd rather go down with Adkins that have to put up with that *****!!!!!!!!!!
egg Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 redknapp yesterdays man....oh my life...he finished 4th in the league 6 months ago... Fair point. He's not what you would call progressive though
Saint Without a Halo Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 This is the biggest thing for me. I think we should keep him. Firstly I like him and think he can turn it around. Secondly I don't see who would be able to do a better job? And please don't say Redknapp. He is completely the wrong manager for our club and what we are trying to do! Redknapp came in the last time we were in this position and took us down! Why will he do better this time
Thedelldays Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Fair point. He's not what you would call progressive though what do you mean.....seriously..?
Turkish Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 what do you mean.....seriously..? He is the ideal man to establish us as a premier league club in the short term. I dont like the bloke but the reality is there are few available who are better.
SuperSAINT Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Redknapp, Hoddle , Benitez would never in a million years put up with the Cortese stuff behind the scenes (Should that be true). Stick by Nige.
Colinjb Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 ***** Redknapp. I'd rather go down with Adkins that have to put up with that *****!!!!!!!!!! Too right!
egg Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 ***** Redknapp. I'd rather go down with Adkins that have to put up with that *****!!!!!!!!!! I hate that old chestnut. Would you really want to go down rather than us changing things and maybe stay up?
Thedelldays Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 He is the ideal man to establish us as a premier league club in the short term. I dont like the bloke but the reality is there are few available who are better. when people go on about him about not being what we need or trying to do...what are we trying to do...go down..?
doddisalegend Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 I'm pretty sure he's on his way, and could see Strachan coming in. Blackpool would be a good move for NA. The timing of Scotland sacking is interesting. I reckon the sweaties want Strachan and are aware that others want him too. Maybe NC noticed the standing ovation WGS got at the Coventry game end of last season.....If you were to get rid of a very popular manager might pay to replace him with someone popular with the fans..... Though for what it's worth I think WGS would be a step back....much as I like him. If Nigel goes I'm really expecting a replacement out of leftfield. A foriegn coach no one would have thought of........I reckon.
shurlock Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 I'm pretty sure he's on his way, and could see Strachan coming in. Blackpool would be a good move for NA. The timing of Scotland sacking is interesting. I reckon the sweaties want Strachan and are aware that others want him too. Impossible. It can't happen. We've been told that Cortese will hire a nobody, a puppet, a husk of a manager without an independent thought so that he and Reed can carry on business as usual.
Turkish Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 when people go on about him about not being what we need or trying to do...what are we trying to do...go down..? Exactly. He'd be perfect. Give him a 2 1/2 year deal, establish us in the premier league, which he would do and then let him go. All those going on about youth players, the reality is the likes of Shaw and JWP are 17 years old would still be barely 20 by the time he went, most players dont really break into premier league sides at that age anway.
Suhari Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 IF NA went, and I now hope he doesn't, he would be replaced by someone for the remainder of this season only. WGS, HR type. Then we'd get Di Matteo in the summer.
egg Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 what do you mean.....seriously..? Redknapp is not progressive. He won't help our club move forward as a whole. That's different to him helping performances in the short term, which I think he would.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 I hate that old chestnut. Would you really want to go down rather than us changing things and maybe stay up? Genuinely yes. Getting relegated doesn't scare me. We can always come back up again. We'd be an absolute laughing stock if we took that budgie back and we went down again.
Thedelldays Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Redknapp is not progressive. He won't help our club move forward as a whole. That's different to him helping performances in the short term, which I think he would. what do mean move forward..move forward to what...? move forward from bottom of the league with a record goals against..and scored 1 from open play in 6 games and going down in record time..? what do you mean by move forward..sounds nice when people say that...but what does that mean
Thedelldays Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Genuinely yes. Getting relegated doesn't scare me. We can always come back up again. We'd be an absolute laughing stock if we took that budgie back and we went down again. we are an absolute laughing stock now
Turkish Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 Redknapp is not progressive. He won't help our club move forward as a whole. That's different to him helping performances in the short term, which I think he would. He would get us established a premier league club. He is too old to be considered the long term answer anyway.
MongoNeil Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 I hate that old chestnut. Would you really want to go down rather than us changing things and maybe stay up? Honestly? Yes.
SaintNeil90 Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 I think some people need to forget the pathetic chips on their shoulders and consider whats best for the football club. IF Adkins was to be fired, there is nobody out there better than Redknapp, regardless of the past.

IF Adkins was to be fired, there is nobody out there better than Redknapp, regardless of the past. If he was given 100% control, and a sh*tload of money to spend in January, I think he'd keep us up. I don't think he'd get either though.
egg Posted 6 November, 2012 Posted 6 November, 2012 what do mean move forward..move forward to what...? move forward from bottom of the league with a record goals against..and scored 1 from open play in 6 games and going down in record time..? what do you mean by move forward..sounds nice when people say that...but what does that mean Continuing the development of the academy, the links to the first team via the u21 team, the sports science etc. Harry laughed off all if that last time around. We need to improve now and look to the future. You'll see from above that I believe HR would improve us now on the pitch. The simple point i made is that i don't believe HR to be progressive.

That's all Reeds role though. He said himself Adkins focues on the coaching and he is director of the science, academy, recruitment and kit departments.
