Did we get caught up in our own hype?

After winning b2b promotions quite comfortably do you think the club genuinely believed we had the players to have a good crack of the premiership? I know a lot of people on here believed we were top half contenders with the squad we had,I just wonder if the club were naive enough to think the same?

I am still of the opinion that worse players have given it a better crack than our lot.

Last season Norwich had Russell Flaming Martin at full back, Zak Whitbred, Elliot Ward. Nout special.

Just a bit of organization and grit about them. I don't think it was beyond reality to expect us to have a decent crack this year.

All those teams knew when to get stuck in and win by any means,we just do not seem to have that kind of mental toughness about us.

The Southampton way is a great way of playing football only when teams let you play that way,in the prem yo duo not get the time unless you have world class players, which we dont

we stayed in the top 2 all last season..you dont do that by not having mental toughness.....we even came back after a pish poor january....you dont do that without some grit..

we have changed far too much, play far too open, and leave the full backs utterly exposed and leave 2 in the middle of the park.....

Some on here got caught up in a load of lunatic hype about our manager, our players and the potential of the club on the back of the promotions, seeming to be convinced that we returned to the Premier League as some European megaclub in the making with a bottomless pit of cash and a miracle football genius factory in Staplewood firing us to the Champion's League. Adkins hyped beyond belief, our potential as a Eurogiant with 50,000 gates hyped beyond belief. Just horseshi t piled on horseshi t.

However, that doesn't mean that the opposite is now true. A bit of organisation and discipline coupled with the firepower we have, we can win games in this division. We could have stayed up from August. It is now much more difficult but we can still do it.

We actually do have some good players on paper. Just wish the f-rs would show it though.

3rd rant tonight - Hell, the team played better under Portaloo - maybe bring him back as a coach? If we had had say RL and JF in that team (instead of Mcgoaldrought and Lancashire) we'd have stayed up.

I wasn't exactly expecting much especially when we didn't replace Fox....but I didn't expect us to be this bad either I expected us to battle hard and get outplayed by some good teams but we're not showing many signs of battling most teams aren't even having to work very hard to beat us. Maybe we got rid of the battlers and leaders from the last few seasons and replaced them with technically better players who lack guts ......

..in a word ...YES!

......and the one who believed that most of all ......has the cheque book. I've got nothing against his ambition, but we 'aint gonna make it with this mob, the sooner everyone realises that - the better.

This bit I totally agree with.

But we need someone with enthusiasm as manager and I much prefer NA's blend of h*******t, than some mealy-mouthed type apologising for poor results and telling us how tough it is at the bottom.

No-one minded listening to him enthuse ....when we were going through L1 and the Championship like a dose of salts.

I don't see anyone else coming in at this stage....continuing with the same players ...and expecting a big turnaround. If NA is still here in January and we are in the same situation....I'll relent.

The Dalek did not get caught up in the hype and has been proven correct I am sorry to say !

But believe in the yoyo strategy, it is the one we are following !

Have you worked out what your painfully unfunny trolling routine is going to be next season yet?

I know this one is going to be hard to beat but good luck with it.

Remind me again what your prediction was for last season? 12th? :)

I always thought that 4th bottom would be an achievement this season. I remember commenting, amongst others that we needed to get some players in with proven Prem experience. That also wasn't well received. I seem to remember MLG being one of the biggest naysayers at the time.
