Ashley Grute Posted 5 November, 2012 Share Posted 5 November, 2012 I still think Nigel should stay, but I find the shouts for loyalty a bit hard to swallow. Lots of fans were happy to see Deano go to Brighton as he wasn't up to the premier league. Where was any loyalty to our captain who has been with us longer than Nigel? Surely if Deano wasn't up to it and we shipped him out, then the same should go for the manager if he can't cut it at this level? I would like to add, personally, I would rather go down and keep Nigel as manager.

Miltonroader07 Posted 5 November, 2012 Share Posted 5 November, 2012 The only issue is staying in the Prem in my opinion, what worries me is who could succeed NA... I suggested Gary Neville
CB Fry Posted 5 November, 2012 Share Posted 5 November, 2012 As it stands there is no evidence that our manager or our chief executive are able to make the step up to the Premier League. Only one of the two will lose their job in the short term, though and that's our Nige.

Kingsland Red Posted 5 November, 2012 Share Posted 5 November, 2012 I'm sure NA could get a bit of help from NC with him bringing in someone like Maldini Junior or another Italian as a defensive coach.

SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 5 November, 2012 Share Posted 5 November, 2012 I don't think Adkins should go just yet as I don't think any manager would be able to lick that defence into shape tbh! I think we need a bit more loyalty not less and I think it is shameful how we treated some players in the summer - especially as some of the players have not been replaced with players who have shown themselves to be of any better quality than those that have left. That having been said, I do have my doubts about Adkins and always have (I have always believed we made a mistake when we let Alan Pardew go). Adkins certainly has a great ethos about how to play the game, but he needs to instil some more drive into the squad as well as a dose of Premiership nouse! Sometimes we are a poor man's Arsenal, passing ourselves to death without any finished article. I understand why we bought Rodriguez and Ramirez in the hope of doing something about that, but I think it has got to be more than having the players with potential. There has got to be some fresh ideas, drive, passion and intelligence too. Reflecting on our transfers in the past year or so, Mayuka. Lee and SDR have not been good buys and the jury is still out on Yoshida, Rodriguez and Davis. Ramirez looks like he could well be a great star of the future, but he is far from the finished article yet, while Clyne has imo been one of the better buys, but also has much to learn. Alongside this we sadly let a few players go in the summer who in hindsight may still have something to offer. I am particularly embarassed by the way we let Billy Sharp go. While he may not be the highest quality, nevertheless what he may lack in quality, he more than makes up for in workrate - something this current squad is lacking! Of course, we do not know to what degree Adkins has directed the transfer policy or whether this has been left up to Cortese. Either way, mistakes have been made and these must be rectified in January. At the end of the day, I am not convinced that changing the manager now would be the right option and, like under Rupert Lowe, it could be a fatal decision which further destabilises a fragile position. If, however, Adkins does go then personally I would love to see Joe Jordan as manager or coach, but would not want Redknapp anywhere near the club! Gary Neville may be able to do a job, but he has zero experience of Premiership coaching.
sandwichsaint Posted 6 November, 2012 Share Posted 6 November, 2012 Player manager? Don't you get bored talking to yourself - seek help before it's too late! The most obvious double-poster on the board.
Supersubpuckett Posted 6 November, 2012 Share Posted 6 November, 2012 For christ sake, when will some people get over the fact that Hammond was average last season and would make a bad team worse if he was still in the squad. We're shyte, nothing more complicated than that, and IF the club really want to stay up then something has to change - whether it's our intended style of play, the formation, the players, the manager or coaching who knows but there it's going very badly wrong right now and you don't improve by keeping on doing the same thing. saintbob40 Posted 6 November, 2012 Share Posted 6 November, 2012 Couldn't agree more. Cortese and Adkins have dismantled the team that got them into the premiership far too quickly and without any regard for team spirit. Hammond and Sharp bounced out, Kelvin and Richardson dropped and Fox undermined and given the clear signal that come xmas he is toast. The Saints team that played last night would have lost 4-0 to the best Saints team of last year, i.e Kelvin, Fox, Fonte, Jos, Richardson, Cork, Morgan, Adam, Guly, Sharp and SRL. Quite an achievement given the amount of money that has been spent and a testimony to how difficult it is to create the winning formula. We should start to rebuild by bringing Kelvin and Cork back into the team on Saturday as we need to put some fight and leadership back into this team. Gazza is one of our better players at the moment and needs a decent run in the team, agree with Cork though, I know it's a minority view on here but I would have bought Chaplow back 5 games ago, we have no fight no bite no leadership. gordonToo Posted 6 November, 2012 Share Posted 6 November, 2012 we have no fight no bite no leadership. Which is why NA has to go and AL replaced as captain. Personally I think the Jordan/Redknapp combination would work but that's a pragmatic view that's not to everyone's taste.
