Weekend's other fixtures

This set of results shows that decent managers are able to go away from home, keep it tight and get a win

We will continue with players that don't work in certain formations

Should be either lambert or rodrigueZ

Either lallana or Ramirez

And mayuka to start

Erm, why? One on the left, one on the right, and then Schneiderlin, Cork (when fit) and Davis...

We are just too open. Neither have real pace like mayuka. Both will cut in from wide

They Re very similar... Just that Ramirez is better

You watch our full backs get murdered if they both play wide

Which is exactly what happened at Everton - often our full backs were two against one - naive, ridiculous and the same mistakes have been repeated almost every game. Nigel has said we won't change the way we play away from home. On that basis we will concede at least 3 every away game.

So you think Mayuka would be better tracking back then? I very much doubt it.

You'd play as a flat 5 when we don't have the ball, then to a 4-3-3 when we do. The reason we get ripped apart is due to us being outnumbered with too many caught forward. If you play with 3 defensive/sitting mids this will stop this.

I think he would be miles better. He is easily quick enough. Which is the very difference between clyne and fox... Both make big feck ups. Clyne is able to get out of it more due to his pace

Totally agree about the 3 midfielders in the middle

Ok, our true situation is beginning to emerge. A day like today was always about to happen - results are now showing how bad we have been.....For me it's a win now on Monday or a change is blatantly required........Too big a risk to continue with a manager who is not only still learning but actually not learning by his mistakes so the learning curve argument for me is losing credibility. Nigel is a very very nice bloke and very very honourable but it just ain't working that is one fact which is undeniable.....For me it's a win or goodbye. Yes it's another tough match - again but there are no easy games in this league so taking the 'excuse' that we have played mostly top half teams just doesn't hold water.....Tactics and decision making have been left wanting in most games so far. Apart from the odd 20 mins we have been pretty terrible unless you really are living in a dream world of rose tinted glasses.

Lose at West Brom and you have to say what will change for the next game and the game after that. We are at a critical stage now. If we bring in someone else now they would have a chance of changing things and saving us but leave it another 3 or 4 games and that chance could have passed us by.

I want to see assertive successful tactics and a team selection that doesn't include players who do not contribute - game after game after game.....Plus like NA says himself - it's time for results - positive talking alone is not enough.......Time to kick ass Nigel or yours might be kicked twice as hard!

Good summary.

Depends on the severity of the incident. 3 games is usually for violent conduct, if it was just a professional foul then he'll likely only get a 1 game ban.

Ref said to Pardew it was "serious foul play" so it will be a 3 game ban.

Michael Owen has gone to twitter about it:

"Not having that at all. He [Coloccini] didn't touch him and to say there was intent is laughable. Let me tell you, he kicks a moving ball a thousand times a day and doesn't miss it once. If he wanted to connect with a standing leg then he wouldn't have missed. He pulls out at the last minute and doesn't touch him. Not having that's a red at all. Anyway, decent game. Liverpool the better team but don't seem to have enough players on the pitch that can score goals.

So I guess it may get appealed. I haven't seen it so I'm guessing; I'll have a look on MOTD2 later.

Spot on. I cannot see Nigel staying on if the same lack of workrate, effort, concentration and desire is on display to the nation tomorrow night again which if the stupid tactics are in evidence again it will be. Sacking Nigel is kinder on him as well, if he can't enforce his way of getting results on Reed and Cortese as if this carries on he will be unemployable. Nigel has lost his spark and perhaps a fresh chance at one of the NPC's bigger clubs might be his way of proving a point.
