Huffton Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 Didn't realise he was at Brighton now. Looks like we missed a trick there, still plenty of quality, and a far superior defender to Fox.
Wade Garrett Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 Huffton, have you heard about Jimmy Savile?
Mattio Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 Thanks for letting us all know you live in the past
Asaint4ever Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 I hope dean Hammond starts on Monday night
Thedelldays Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 Almost all of our team last season looked good for nearly all of the season!!! Brighton playing well... Bit like us last year I see brown still hasn't learned to play football and el-abd is a dirty bastard
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 I agree, Bridge looking good but let's face it, there aren't many that make Fox look good defensively.
dickyhale Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 (edited) Oh dear where is Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter any news on that sick pair Edited 2 November, 2012 by dickyhale
Professor Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 My Brighton supporting friends have been praising Bridge for his quality but it hasn't done much for their results.
Born In The 80s Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 We certainly missed a trick. Bridgey would have come back in a shot if we'd shown an interest in a loan deal. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though - didn't expect Foxy to set the prem alight, but i certainly didn't anticipate him being this far out of his depth.
Pedro Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 Bridge would have been that experienced premiership quality that we needed.
vince Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 A Brighton ST holder at work tells me they are paying 10K of his 80K a week salary while on loan there.
Badger Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 I suspect we were 'busy' trying to secure other potential left back targets, Buttner for one, whilst Bridge was in talks at Brighton. We certainly missed a trick. Bridgey would have come back in a shot if we'd shown an interest in a loan deal. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though - didn't expect Foxy to set the prem alight, but i certainly didn't anticipate him being this far out of his depth. Agree
GAS Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 A Brighton ST holder at work tells me they are paying 10K of his 80K a week salary while on loan there.Having had to play Yoshida at left back and put Clyne there we really should have gone for him. But it's only with hindsight that you realise a solid defence is needed in the premiership.....!
the saint in winchester Posted 2 November, 2012 Posted 2 November, 2012 How long is the loan deal? Any chance we could take up that opportunity if it comes up in Jan? I'd be happy for the club to pay over £10k a week for him, if Man City would approve that? (Is he still owned ny Man City? Or is it West Ham? completely lost track of his ownership)
Red Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Didn't realise he was at Brighton now. Looks like we missed a trick there, still plenty of quality, and a far superior defender to Fox. Bet he is not now! Granted Fox is not great at PL level and we did try to get a better LB in but failed, however Fox currently is better than WB. Why else is he at the bird shi.tt.ers and not at a higher club? BTW - just shows the unpredictable nature of professional footballers – not that many years ago, there was nothing to choose between WB and AC as to the best England LB, but now they are worlds apart – so what happened? Whatever you think of them, you really have to hand it to the true professionals that maintain the highest of standards throughout their entire careers (Giggs, Bally etc.)
sotonist Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Bet he is not now! Granted Fox is not great at PL level and we did try to get a better LB in but failed, however Fox currently is better than WB. Why else is he at the bird shi.tt.ers and not at a higher club? The question that follows is should fox be at a higher club than the bird ****ters? I'm not convinced.
Thedelldays Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Bet fox would look 100 times better with marsden in front of him
Whitey Grandad Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Bet fox would look 100 times better with marsden in front of him He'd look better with anybody in front of him.
beatlesaint Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Bridge would have been that experienced premiership quality that we needed. Not good enough for us anymore, according to many of the experts on here. The fact he has played all his career in the Prem was irrelevant apparently. Nope, we were always going to be much better off with Danny one season for Burnley who got relegated Fox
chivvy1664 Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Taking Bridge would have been a 50/50 gamble he was shockng when on loan in the premier, However going to brighton and playing every week he is getting back to form. I think his loan is only up till january. He would be a good sqaud player. However the Premier league is very dfferent to Championship.

supersonic Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 There's a reason why so many PL teams have turned down Bridge and he's playing in the championship
John Boy Saint Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 There's a reason why so many PL teams have turned down Bridge and he's playing in the championship I expect the money is a massive factor, goes to Chelsea plays well gets stalked by Cashley Cole learns he can get a monster wage just to train, WB happy his agent is happy, clubs come knocking possibly but don't come up with the weekly wage to tempt him away. Man city rock up with a nice contract with nice money why not move on for another 4 years of security. Again he becomes a bench warmer then just a trainer on £80k a week, teams come knocking but why move on if you are guaranteed £80k for the next X years to stay where you are and they ain't prepared to pay that kind of money. Probably also seen his best mate Beattie just fizzle out, and thinks that will happen to me so lets just ride the wave I am on. I would imagine the drive he had with us has dimmed, through being benched for so long and going out on loan on full pay just breaks the tedium. It certainly would be interesting if he did turn up back at Saints as romantically you would hope it might just re kindle the fire.
Leicestersaint Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Bridge would have been that experienced premiership quality that we needed. I really do agree with this and that we missed a real opporutnity although his wage demands might have been a bit high. Our left back position really does need sorting out.
The Kraken Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 No idea if true, but rumours at the time suggested Man City would subsidise his wages only if Bridge went to a Championship club; any Premier League club taking him on loan would have had to pay his wages in full with no contribution from City. If true, it would explain why no PL teams were prepared to stump up for his £80K per week wage, including us.
alpine_saint Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Yet another b*ll*ck dropped by the club. Considering Silvestre is still club-less, I am not convinced the club cares really about our defensive issues.

Halo Stickman Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Bridge wasn’t exactly impressive in the couple of games I saw him play for Sunderland last season.
DT Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 You would have hoped he'd drop his wage demands a little to play again for his home team but such is the average money-grabbing mercenary these days.
Miltonroader07 Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Huffton, have you heard about Jimmy Savile? I don't get this reference.
The Kraken Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 I don't get this reference. Jimmy Saville used to play left back for Brighton.
Huffton Posted 3 November, 2012 Author Posted 3 November, 2012 Huffton, have you heard about Jimmy Savile? Yeah, just found out, shocking. Tragic loss, and when you consider all that he did for all those under-privileged children...
Spudders Posted 3 November, 2012 Posted 3 November, 2012 Yeah, just found out, shocking. Tragic loss, and when you consider all that he did for all those under-privileged children...
theyin Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 I was shot down like a lead balloon for uttering such a profanity just a few short months ago. I don't recall many stepping up to the mark to back me up. All change now it seems. Double his wages and bring Bridgey back to SMS in January. Him and an experienced CB to assist and rebuild Yoshida's confidence which I suspect will be shot by then, and we'll be home safe.

And you wonder why people didn't follow your logic before?

He's been counting his money for half a decade, and a couple of games in the second tier doesn't change a thing. And as for "double his wages".....Jesus H. Christ.
This Charming Man Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 We certainly missed a trick. Bridgey would have come back in a shot if we'd shown an interest in a loan deal. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though - didn't expect Foxy to set the prem alight, but i certainly didn't anticipate him being this far out of his depth. He was average at best in the NPC. It was clear to everyone bar whoever deals with our transfers that we needed a LB for this season... and two CB's.

People are raving about him not after a few good performances in the NPC as if it proves he is still quality - are you forgetting that Fox was one of the best fullbacks in the same league last year?
hypochondriac Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 Pretty sure he means double his wages from the rumoured 10k from Brighton.

People are raving about him not after a few good performances in the NPC as if it proves he is still quality - are you forgetting that Fox was one of the best fullbacks in the same league last year? Was he?! That's news to me.
The Kraken Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 Pretty sure he means double his wages from the rumoured 10k from Brighton. Yeah, maybe we should just ignore the £70K that Man City are throwing in on top of that. Its quite a clever approach to transfers actually, surprised no-one has suggested it before. Why wouldn't Bridge throw away £60K a week to join us?
Bearsy Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 I spose the idea is Man City save £10k pw. We call it 'The Adebayor'
The Kraken Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 I spose the idea is Man City save £10k pw. We call it 'The Adebayor' So, rather than doubling his wages, Bridge would get paid exactly the same?
hypochondriac Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 So, rather than doubling his wages, Bridge would get paid exactly the same? I expect he meant get him on loan from city and double the wages that Brighton are giving him.
The Kraken Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 I expect he meant get him on loan from city and double the wages that Brighton are giving him. That still doesn't make sense; why would City continue to supplement him £70K a week to allow us to pay him an extra £10K a week? In any case, I'll repeat what I wrote earlier. No idea if true, but rumours at the time suggested Man City would subsidise his wages only if Bridge went to a Championship club; any Premier League club taking him on loan would have had to pay his wages in full with no contribution from City. If true, it would explain why no PL teams were prepared to stump up for his £80K per week wage, including us.
Bearsy Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 Yeah double his wages contribution so Man City tear up his loan contract. Not that I care, I don't reckon he's required quality no more.
hypochondriac Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 I'll repeat what I wrote earlier. I know you wrote that but it may have changed in january.
The Kraken Posted 4 November, 2012 Posted 4 November, 2012 I know you wrote that but it may have changed in january. Well I still don't think it makes sense. Besides, whatever the wages, I'm pretty sure Wayne Bridge is not remotely close to being the answer to our ills.
