I guess Liverpool.

I watched them outplaying every European side at Anfield during the 1970's.. .and winning the title almost every season into the bargain and the great players they had then.

Ian Callaghan on the wing, St.John, Hunt, the (young) Keegan, Steve Heighway, Ian Rush, John Aldridge, Emlyn Hughes (the 1970's version of Steven Gerrard) ..what a great side they were...dare we forget ....Jimmy Case.

I'd support them every time - except when they play us ......

Love it. You start off quite indifferent.."I guess Liverpool", then proceed to wax lyrical and drool over their nostalgic world beating teams of years gone by...then end your post with "I'd support them every time". Classic.

Not trying to belittle you, I just found it amusing the way you constructed that post

I've been waiting for this opportunity, Charlie. Is Kharkhiv the same as Xharkhov? Ie a biggish city to the east of Ukraine? I spent a month over there in 1991 - great times, learning Russian, though there was a lot of unrest at the time.

Thats the one, might have changed a bit since then - well worth a follow up visit and a trip to the Metalist Stadium.

Roma.

I visited Rome for the first time when I was a teenager and became infactuated by the city, the people and the culture. My old man would always buy me a teams shirt wherever we went on holiday and he did so in Rome (and there was only one choice so the locals all told us! Roma is called Roma and the team play in the city's colours!). At the start of the next football season I was flicking through the channels and came across Juve v Roma live on Eurosport who at the time had Italian football rights. I was very impressed with what I saw of Roma in a thoroughly entertaining 2-2 draw. Since then it's just grown for me.

Since March 2004 I've been to 17 live games, 14 in Italy and 3 in England. Met some great people along the way, Roma fans from around the world and also have some good friends in Rome now too. Last time I went I took the boys who I go to Saints with, and they are also now fully converted (see saint_bert's earlier post in this thread!).

Barca as i go over now and then, but really i just sport any philadelphia sports team from other sports, for me Southampton are my only real passion in football followed by England, but every time i have seen one of my favourite sports teams play they lose, so im thinking of supporting WBA and Swansea in hope they will lose to us and we have 6 points.

Having a second team is like having a wife and a mistress.

So quite an good idea then. I'm not going to say whether I have a second team because it would seem that if I did it would mean I know nothing about football. I'm also not going to say whether I have a mistress in case my wife reads this post. I assume Mr Turkish Delight has neither a mistress, a second team or a wife for that matter.

Southampton Reserves.

Whoever is playing Lpool - due to stuff like someone went on about just now. Every glory supporter in the land used to be a Lpool fan. Still my most hated team because of this.

Partick Thistle !

Was originally my only team until I moved south and married into the Saints, but now (42 years on !) they are my 2nd team !

If you add Scotland to the mix, you may conclude that I am not exactly a glory hunter and in fact spend much of my existence in the depths of despair !!

Sholing FC, I also follow Plymouth Argyle results as I worked there up until they went into administration and MK Dons as that's where I live now (not that I've ever met a single supporter)

spurs

my whole family support spuds so i have a huge soft spot for them and in return they love to see saints win - i saw them lose 3-2 at wembley in the fa cup and have seen some amazing games, bring on the abuse......

Never really thought about having a second team. Just seem to dislike some teams more than others. But as mentioned in other posts if I lived abroad I might start going to games and start to like the culture and people at the games.

I would never and could never have a second team

However as Helsingborg I.F. are the nearest team to where i live i'm planning on taking my lad there next season, just for the matchday experience before his first saints match at the start of next season.

No such thing as a second team, but ....... I saw a fair bit of Dover in the 90's, and followed their FA cup run all the way to Huddersfield in the 3rd round a couple of years ago. Never had a real second team but for various family/friends/geographical reasons guess I'd look for the following results in no particular order: Charlton, Gillingham,Wolves, Ipswich, Brighton, Coventry. Never been a big fan of foreign football and certainly not an England fan. Also proud to say I've never felt any man-love for a 'big team'; Saints are plenty big enough for me!

Woking as I was on the doorstep, and now Bray Wanderers since moving to Ireland who are also on the doorstep in Irish (rural) terms :-) Certainly adds some perspective to our situation when compared to "minor local" teams.

Being from Clapham its impossible to really say that theres a London club that represents the area I'm from. English side of the family is all Southampton and I just can't quite understand how I could attach myself to a different club unless I lived in a city abroad, set my life up there and felt that I had an attachment to the city and community.

S'basically how it works. You should support the team that represents where you're from.

Its always nice to watch a team who plays well and provides entertaining football but I don't see how you can have any real vested interest in how well they actually do. They're not really YOUR team.

I suppose for a long time I liked Newcastle, still do like to see them do well, but I'm not geordie and for me thats the be all and end all.

My sisters bf and likely my future brother-in-law is a Newcastle fan though - so I suppose I'd like to see them do well for his sake...but...nah...they're not a second team.

There's no such thing as a "second" team.

Well there's two of us, I work in Ukraine also, near Poltava (Sokolva Balka) four weeks on and four weeks off.

I came in through Kharkiv from Vienna last Tuesday. Getting a bit nippy here already!

I spent a night in Kharkiv last year when Austrian Airlines cancelled my flight - had a great time.

Excellent hospitality.

I'll be travelling back to Kharkiv (airport) at the end of this month.

My other team is Vorskla Poltava (and Gillingham)

I guess I'm on IGNORE then

Guilty as charged! Supported them as a kid in the 70's but switched to Saints as soon as I was old enough (14) to possess the morality required to realise it is completely irrational and unacceptable for a southerner to support a northern team.

My other half is American and her family live in Miami. So I am there a fair bit. When I visit me and her dad go off to watch the Heat play and over the years I have come to support them. I got to see the 2nd game of the finals this year which was ****ing epic!

Have also been a Patriots fan due to working in Boston for 2 years in the late 90's. It was the first NFL team I had seen so maybe that's why I adopted them. Was Sod's law though the year I got a better job back home they then won their first title...

I also watch the Dolphins now and then when I go to stay but they are mega **** so try to avoid that when I can ;)

In terms of other football teams I don't support any really. No matter where I am in the world or what sport i'm watching, Saints will always be my only real team. With Saints its personal, you care too much.

as i moved around a bit as a nipper i like to keep an eye on Gillingham & Aberdeens results now & then.

the closest to a 2nd team would be Feyenoord as i made friends with a few mad supporters durring the 90's through music/parties. been to a load of games over the years including some tasty encounters with Ajax!
