bungle Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/10019955.Famous_Sotonians_to_be_honoured_with__statues_/ New art project in Southampton, three local people to be honoured with steel sculptures of themselves, and Soton people choose who it is. Matt Le Tiss is on the shortlist. Time to vote etc
patred44 Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/10019955._/? sorry the title should read vote for Matt
Saint Garrett Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Charlie Dimmock?!?! Craig David?!?!? WTF
The9 Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 I voted for King Knut and Matt Le Tiss. One of them at least would appreciate being dumped out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but an oncoming tide to keep them company.
Hatch Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 I voted for Emily Davis the feminist, suffragist and a pioneering campaigner for women’s rights . Bless her. I bet she had nice tits as well.
Spudders Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Why is there not an option for Porstmouth fans, they deserve a statue
derry Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 (edited) Good job there are three statues. A footballer, you must be joking. For me RJ Mitchell, designed the Spitfire the outstanding fighter of the war. Died of cancer not long after he got the prototype flown. It made the difference in the battle of Britain. Only 1/3 by numbers over the Hurricane but it was superior to the Bf109 the best German fighter due to it's wing and all metal construction. Famous German fighter leader Adolph Galland was asked by Goering during the battle if he wanted anything, his famous reply, 'Spitfires'. Edited 1 November, 2012 by derry
the stain Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 He may be your foe, but he's not mine. More Anti MLT agenda on SWF.
trousers Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Why is it split into two seperate votes? Am I missing something? (apart from a few marbles) Just watch Charlie Dimmock soar to the top once our friends down the road get wind of this poll
Hatch Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Why is it split into two seperate votes? Am I missing something? (apart from a few marbles) Just watch Charlie Dimmock soar to the top once our friends down the road get wind of this poll those extra 48 votes wouldn't make much difference.
The Kraken Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Le Tiss isn't from Southampton though. Neither is Charlie Dimmock.
CB Saint Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 MLT shouldn't be in the poll as I am sure the club will do the necessary on the statue front
CB Saint Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Chris Packham, Chris effing Packham, Hundreds of years of history and that is the best we can come up with!!!!
Mattio Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 I assume a few are comedy entries, my friend is related to Dimmock so had to put a vote in for her and I actually went for RJ Mitchell over MLT
VectisSaint Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Thanks for pointing this out, voted for Mitchell, far more deserving than MLT. I would have thought Terry Paine was just as good an option as MLT anyway. Ted Bates would have been the most obvious football related candidate, but of course there are already a couple of statues of him. Appalled that Ken Russell didn't even make the shortlist.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Le Tiss isn't from Southampton though. Neither is RJ Mitchell. Or King Canute. Or Jane Austen. It's a ******** place to put a statue too. A statue of RJ Mitchell would be fitting for the city of Southampton cos of the Spitfire, but surely it'd be better at the airport where the Spitfire first flew or in Woolston where the factory was? As for Craig David, Charlie Dimmock... What the **** is all that about?
Hatch Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Why not Ted Bates, there must be a spare statue knocking about somewhere.
Saint86 Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Le Tissier, or the guy who designed the spitfire. Are they not the 2 obvious choices followed in all likelihood by Jane McFlange Austin? Tough one for me. Canut gets the vote for the top half at least!!
Thedelldays Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Neither is RJ Mitchell. Or King Canute. Or Jane Austen. It's a ******** place to put a statue too. trousers Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 (edited) What no Lucy Pinder Have you seen the price of bronze recently? Edited 1 November, 2012 by trousers
The Kraken Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Just to point this out.............. When it says "statue"; well, its a statue in the very loosest sense. Firstly, it'll be in 2D. So forget any recreation of the (new) Ted Bates outside St. Mary's. Secondly, its going to cost £5,000. For 3 of them. Basically its going to end up being a shoddily erected plank of MDF with a spray on stencil.
Bearsy Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 The Jane Austen one should be lols considering no-one knows what she looked like.
Hatch Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 and as it is a cycle route, why no mention of Dani King, Olympics and World gold galore.
Guan 2.0 Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Neither is RJ Mitchell. Or King Canute. Or Jane Austen. It's a ******** place to put a statue too. The Kraken Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 This. Save the money and build an established military museum of Southampton. Its £5,000. With that type of money the only museum you'll get is a second hand shed and a bag full of gear from the army surplus store.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 What about a Craig David Museum? Open 6 days a week, closed on Sundays?
trousers Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Its £5,000. With that type of money the only museum you'll get is a second hand shed and a bag full of gear from the army surplus store. And you'd have the Pompey club shop suing you for copying their retail model.
The Kraken Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 And you'd have the Pompey club shop suing you for copying their retail model. They've acquired a shed now? Moving on up....
bungle Posted 1 November, 2012 Author Posted 1 November, 2012 and as it is a cycle route, why no mention of dani king, olympics and world gold galore. LINK
The Kraken Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Oh my giddyup, I was right. It's going to be some shoddily erected MDF planks with naff spray on stencilled images! Brilliant. That looks absolutely absurd!! They make the original Ted statue look reasonable
Miltonaggro Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 The Jane Austen one should be lols considering no-one knows what she looked like. She looked like Eva Braun...
Badger Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 No Isaac Watts ? As deserving as Jane Austen surely ?
Mattio Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 Surprised there's no Florance Nightingale to be honest with the crap that's on there!
Ohio Saint Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 CHARLIE DIMMOCK One of Britain’s most recognisable faces FACES? Tits maybe, face, no.
Turkish Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 I think this really highlights that lack of quality celebritities that come from Southampton. We dont even have anyone who's been on X Factor to nominate FFS.
krissyboy31 Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 I think this really highlights that lack of quality celebritities that come from Southampton. We dont even have anyone who's been on X Factor to nominate FFS. What about Kai Widdrington from Britain's got talent? Could have his dad too. BTW should be Benny Hill.
VectisSaint Posted 1 November, 2012 Posted 1 November, 2012 The Jane Austen one should be lols considering no-one knows what she looked like. Not a problem if the same guy who did the 1st Ted Bates statue does it. Just make it up and as long as it doesn't look like Milan Mandic who would know (or care)
