Leeds 3 - 0 Saints - Post Match Reaction

Everyone is looking for the character in the club to shine in a game like this, where the performance matters away from the pressures of the PL.

From the stats it appears the fight isn't there. Many of the players tonite had a chance to impress and make a push for PL selection. It seems nobody stepped up.

Losing at Leeds in itself is not the issue , and they probably see it as revenge for our smash and grab last season, but not turning up at all, going through the motions at any level is unacceptable and worrying in the long term

Strange selection of posts on here after our reserves lost a game against a first team from the division below - similar to us v Blackpool as couple of seasons ago in the FA Cuo.

When Holloway got Blackpool up, against the odds, they stuck with him in the Prem, in fact he's still there.

Why the need for the disruption of change ?

Adkins has to go.

In our current predicament momentum is all important.

With that team we were never going to beat Leeds away from home.

I don't understand the logic of the management at the moment.

This defeat is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but the tactics employed by the management this season has been utter madness...subs cost us against Fulham, Man U, clueless defending in all games - I could go on.

As others have said....sorry Nige, I am eternally grateful but if we want to stay up this season we need a change as you are out of your depth this season.

But blackpool got relegated that season. I don't want us to be relegated.

And to be fair, they gave it a much better crack at the start than we have.

Blackpool's owner was happy to take £11m out of the club in their Premier season, whil keeping investments in the team at a minimum. He's quite happy just to have gone up or a season.

Different strokes, different folks.

Maybe we have to accept that we are the 19th best team in the leagues at the moment, and do a bit of boing boing like WBA did for several seasons before they stepped up a few places.

After our last seven seasons I would accept that for a few seasons.

Sums it up for me, don't know what people were expecting tonight when that team was announced. As mentioned above they beat a strong Everton team previously. Talking about refunds? Get a grip FFS, it's football.

I expected saints to put out a decent enough side to have a chance of winning a game against lower league opposition.

Lets face it, we need another dicking like a hole in the head.

I expected this season to be tough but we are handing it on a plate all opposition.

And as for qualifying for europe, who were they trying to kid

Tonight is a fine example that it will not be easy to ''boing boing''.

I agree with you on most things mate but we are better than that.

Reeves

Chaplow

Mayuka

Guly

Hooiveld

Davis

JWP

All these have been in or around the first team this season, and it is fair to expect that if picked they would go out and try to prove themselves worthy of a place in the first team. Seems like they didn't do that tonight I don't blame Adkins for playing any of them as you'd expect better. But De Ridder, Seaborne, Butterfield will never get near the first team, and no matter how promising they are, you can't expect them to turn the game round on their own at such an age.

I was at the game. Drove up from Dorset. It was the lowest effort I have seen from saints in years, possibly ever. Lee played like he was drunk, and Butterfield put on an example of how not to defend. Jos was fed up with Butterfield, and he let him know at half time. I don't mind driving up to Leeds to see us lose, but i do mind if the manager plays the 3rd team and we have zero shots on target. If atkins had pre warned me I wouldn't have bothered going. No positives except a young lad who came on to play on the right wing. He actually a put some effort in.

so would you now agree with me that it was a joke team ?

No. In the main, as individuals those are decent players. KD has been great for us; Chappers, at times ace (and oft called for by some this season); Guly does a good job; Hoov was superb last season; Butterfield solid; JWP has shown he has quality above his age; Lee showed class last year; Mayuka great potential this.

These guys should have the quality to see off Leeds. Or t the very least get a shot on target........You don't lose your abilities in a few months. It's what's going on between their ears that now concerns me.

The lack of organisation, passion/drive and i would suggest confidence is the worrying thing.

This was the golden opportunity to get the team from Sunday with one or two tweaks getting a good result. Instead Adkins refers to the Charlton blueprint that Reed insists he abide to and picks a team of donkeys ready for the knackers yard together with two future stars {who'll be wondering what the hell they came here for}

Lost the plot, Adkins doesn't have one. This is a repeat of his previous inability to adapt to the Championship when he got S****horpe promoted and relegated back to League One.

When Bournemouth went for Howe we missed out and will regret it for a long time to come. Surely not even Cortese can sit back idly and let this continue. Maybe it's the pay off on Nigel's contract that makes sacking him too costly.

Sums up our players mentality at the moment IMO.

Rchap04: Sorry we couldn't get the result for all you traveling fans, hope you all have a safe drive home!

Forget the result, the performance was shocking, gutless, lack of effort. If we'd lost 1-0 but gave it a good go, I'd be fine due to the team we put out but that wasnt good enough and our players seem like they arent particularly bothered

As one one les said, losing to Leeds is not so bad but not turning up is really disappointing. More annoyed that SDR and Lee did not shine than the result. But this is the first real bad spell we've had under Adkins since he took over so throwing our toys out of the pram is a bit premature. Those that call for him to be sacked are no better than the players tonight who appear to have given up too soon. Are we not made of tougher stuff than that? Are we not able to take a few defeats on the chin, and battle to pick ourselves up? Why do people nowadays rely on someone else to pick them up and save the trouble of being strong?

Gutted as i am there are a few reading fans who are worse off....

He's one of the players on his way out IMO.

On a positive note, I feel as disappointed tonight as I did when we lost by a similar scoreline to Swindon in the JPT a few seasons ago. That was just before NA came in and turned things around.

Let's see where we are after the next 4 games. Adkins has earned the right to last until the end of the season at least IMO, but I reckon if things haven't improved after Newcastle then the trigger may be pulled...
