Nigel's lame interviews

It seems that even constuctive critisicism of adkins is shouted down on here. Personally I want him to stay till xmas to have the chance to prove himself but I'm totally fed up with his lame and wet after match interviews seems to keep repeating "we score goals" like that's all we need to do and doesn't seem to be worried by the fact we haven't kept a clean sheet this season and are still shipping the same average of goals it's like he thinks its all going to magically click!

Word of advice. Never listen to his interviews. He rarely says what he really feels, so what's the point?

Quite. It's as simple as that. I like the fact he never, EVER says anything of note. Even quoting poetry isn't him actually saying it.

You'd of thought people would be used to it by now? I stopped listening to them ages ago. I suppose now were losing most of the time people will get a little more annoyed with his after match talk than they did when we were winning most of the time..........Better than having to listen to some gobby **** like Hollaway

I like listening to Holloway - a bit like WGS in many ways.

Holloway is like Adkins really. If he was your manager you'd love him, but if not then you'd hate him.

I tend to agree. The last thing he said after the West Ham interview was "we play 4-3-3"

So what did we do yesterday ? Started with 4-4-2.

If you dont want to hear some off the wall quote from a 19th century philosopher I wouldn't bother listening :p

Got to say, I hoped Nigel would raise his interview game after promotion to the Premiership. He still does not interview well, but then, perhaps we need to put that in the context of the defeats and the tight-lipped policy at the club.

The repetition of several key phrases doesn't inspire confidence, don't give an indication of how he feels results might be improved, makes Nige look like a bit of a throwback and us look like a team managed by a cliche factory.

I've always assumed that Nige is some genius at remaining opaque in the glare of the media spotlight, and kept the good stuff for the boys during training. If he relies on similar tropes during training, that'd be worrying.

It's not the bloke is incapable of speaking his mind; I've seen him in more candid, less Saints related interviews. In a more official capacity, he too often fills time with the worst kind of nothing; the kind you can't ignore.

whats bizarre is he often never even refers to the game in question! he just generalises everything with statements that could refer to any game. Why can't he get back to basics and some simple honesty? i.e. we were awful but heres what Im going to work on to change it around next time.... might have a bit of respect for the man then. I realise its not his job to discuss tactics with the media or anything

Think you answered your own question there.

I don't really understand why anyone cares about what he says after a match. It is refreshing not to have to listen to drivel by the likes of Ferguson or Redkrapp. I used to like WGS' sense of humour, but really nothing said in post match interviews is even slightly relevant or even vaguely interesting. I couldn't understand a word AVB said after the match yesterday (partly because he had lost his voice but also because he just mumbled). All that matters is what he does on the training ground and how he translates that onto the pitch - now there is an issue of course.

That isn't what I've heard from his interviews at all. Indeed, after West Ham he seemed very, very p*ssed off with the players.

I don't really know what people expect from his post-match interviews. It's not like any football managers, or players, ever have anything insightful or constructive to say in these situations. They just rattle off a load of tired old cliches (kept plugging away, all credit to them etc...) just to pay lip service to the TV broadcasters. It's sometimes funny watching a manager losing it after a perceived injustice from the officials, but that's about it. I don't even pay attention to them any more - I get more interesting and stimulating conversation from my cat.

Adkins fancy words and smart answers are just a smokescreen to hide his tactical mistakes.

His "let's get 5 positives and 1 negative from every game and draw a line under it" policy annoys me, hurrying your head in the sand and ignoring the problem won't make it go away. Perhaps the players and the problems need addressing?

That isn't exactly exclusive to Adkins though is it? When was the last time you heard a manager do a post-match interview and say "Yeah it was all my fault we lost. I got the tactics and the substitutes all wrong."?

Can't really criticise him for behaving in exactly the same way as all other managers can you?
