got a feeling he will be involved in this game.

be interesting to see what adkins does in terms of accommodating ramirez should he go with three out and out strikers up top.

i would personally like to see ramirez behind a front two of lambert/mayuka

Lallana could make way, especially since his inability to track runs of the right back and help fox out causes us all sorts of problems.

It seems unlikely, given that the original prognosis was something like 6 weeks.

Sometimes people recover more quickly than expected, the prognosis is an educated guess based on average recovery times of people with similar injuries. He has clearly been training, and reasonably hard including ball work, so must be close to a return, unless there is a setback. I suspect he will be on the bench against the Baggies based on the video evidence.

Sorry ..can't agree with this. Did you watch Lallana against Spurs? He was everywhere, tracking runs and making tackles. The problem is Fox being out of position so often, meaning not just Adam, but also Yoshida, have to cover too often , getting drawn out of their own positions.

I think it was always up to 6 weeks, 6 weeks was the worst case, if he's already been back training with the first team I think that's a good sign.

It's also an impact injury, a bad one yes, but not something you can make worse really, not like a muscle tear or ligament damage so once he's got full movement and no pain he should be fine to go. Hopefully he'll get a run out in an U21/Reserve game soon.

I have only watched a few highlights but one in particular that stood out was where Kyle Walker broke down the right and squared to Defoe who blasted over, Lallana was running flat out to track Walker and almost blocked the cross but just got done for pace. What was alarming was the space that Walker had to run into, Fox was pretty much standing next to Yoshida. They highlighted this on MOTD2 as it happened several occasions, Lennon drifted inside and Fox just drifted with him (without actually getting near him) and left a massive gap for Walker. Lallana tracked the runs every time but in a foot race with walker and that much space to run into he's going to loose every time, there shouldn't have been the space to pass into, Fox should have said to Morgan or Davis that Lennon was drifting into their area of the pitch and held his position.

If they doubled up on Fox at left back you might have a case against Lallana, but when Fox (as usual) goes walkies that's not Lallana's fault.

They key to a flat back four is good shape, you don't leave massive gaps by going in field (if you are a fullback) or out wide (if you are a centre back). You only man mark your man if he's in your zone.

Off thread topic here, but yes, IMO Fox is possibly one of the worst left backs I've seen play for saints in recent memory. People will say he delivers a good ball/free kick and that's true but that really makes him the ultimate luxury player doesn't it? Cos quite frankly, he's awful at the rest of his job.

The bloke who runs the coach service I go to away games on met Gaston in town the other day. He asked GR how long until he's back for us and he said "a week". That may be a week until he's back in training or a week until he's match fit, not sure. Didn't Adkins say Gaston will be back in light training soon?

He certainly worked hard, but in the first half he went to sleep on one occasion allowing Walker the freedom of the park. His lack pace doesn't help as he can't recover. Fortunately Spurs didn't score on that occasion, but from time to time he does ball watch and leaves Fox exposed.

True. I hope you are right. On the other hand, I think he is definitely one player whose reputation has been enhanced by not actually playing. He certainly made us a better team (against Villa for example), but I remain to be convinced he alone can turn around our defensive calamities.

Don't disagree at all, was just discussing whether he would be back or not. On the evidence so far I don't really see Ramirez adding anything defensively, but then again I never expected him to. He is an attacking midfielder and looked a bit lost tracking back. On the other hand, a team defends as one, and defending starts from the front, what GR brings is an ability to hold the ball, make things happen and hopefully create (and score) more goals, and thus take pressure off of the defence. This goes for Lee as well, apart from SRL (and I suppose AL) no-one else in the team seems able to hold the ball up, up front, and thus relieve pressure on our fragile defence. Despite some of the hype that we are good at scoring goals, our scoring rate has tailed off in the last few games, SRL has not scored for a while (this always happens to him, a few games scoring goals and then a run of 4 or 5 without a goal). I still think GR is very important to the success or otherwise of our season, and what can be seen is that he is (going to be) a world class player in the future.

If you take the (I think it was first goal) Fox was forced to go to the man with the ball as Adam just stood and watched, this was then compounded as the ball was then played to the man Fox would have been with, again AL was no where near him. To me this is basic defending errors which our whole team need to work on better IMO of course. I'm not Fox's biggest fan by any stretch but he's not being helped out as well as he was last year.

I noticed that when Adam is chasing back he tends to run a parallel trajectory to the attacker instead of an interception route.Perhaps that's what he's been coached to do but it puts very little direct pressure on the attacker and as long as he's fairly accurate with his final pass Adam's 30 yard dash is always going to have no effect whatsover.

I agree with you. Fox is not the greatest but he does seem to be left exposed at times and he usually has very little option to pass to in front of him.

Amazing. Last week I was lashed on here for suggesting that AL leaves Fox far too exposed.

As far as Ramirez is concerned, I have a funny feeling we won't be seeing much of him this season. As soon as we spent all that money I thought, We'll be lucky to get a third of a season out of him. Don't ask me why, I've just got a feeling that he won't want to play for us whilst we're looking so awful and he'll end up being released for a fraction of the price we paid for him.

Same here. I thought he's be injured for three months and then go to Arsenal in January.
