Easily the best left sided player in world football in my books. The speed in which he glides along the ground, the ease in which he beats players and the consistent quality of his deliveries make him one of the best.

When eh was with us, you could always see he had a bit of ''rolls royce'' about him in terms of how he moved and glided along with the football. Showed great class y/day as well, pretty proud to be a saints fan when you see him tearing up the likes of Inter.

has a Saints youth product ever played for Real Madrid? Because thats where he'll be next season (unless Man Citeh offer him way to much!), too good for Spurs. You can see why they didn't win their two games without him.

Bale on one side and Ronaldo on the other. Jesus!

What a ****ing header too!

I was right behind it and it was as perfect as it could have been - no margin for error - he nailed it

Total lack of celebration - top man

Along with Alex OC a player I was really sorry to see leave

Keeper error apparently according to some

Yeah, all the best keepers are able to save powerful curling headers which only just bend inside the far post, didn't you know ? :D

Forgot to mention, having bulked up a few seasons ago when he was injured and maintained that muscle for a few years, Bale seems to have slimmed down significantly over the last year or so, he's much leaner and has far less bulk around his shoulders.

A top notch performance from Gareth Bale. So fast, strong and skillful
In the first half - yes. Apart from one incident, fairly anonymous in the second half.

he threw his shirt into the crowd yesterday and if you want to see someone who is physically the human equivalent of a thoroughbred racehorse, take a look at this:

Fair play to him. True class as a player and as a bloke. The toned down celebration was respectful. Good luck to him

Great header but we kept him surprisingly quiet for the majority of the game.

We managed to play our passing game and kept the ball away from him in the second half of the game. Good tactics that should have been used in the first half.

Was going to say apart from the goal, he was fairly quiet. Lennon much more of a threat throughout the game.

I was more interested in this which immediately followed it : http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20117987 as I saw Bale chuck his shirt into the crowd, but as it's yellow they've since changed the headline to "Brad Friedel's shirt". :(

The introduction of Mayuka had a lot to do with that, meaning he had to do a lot more defending but even then he was class!

I've got a lot of time for Gareth Bale. Great player and I take a certain pride that he started his career with us and that I was lucky enough to watch him regularly. It was pretty clear early on that he was going to move on and I don't begrudge him it at all. He went about it entirely in the right way - there was none of that carp in the papers from his agent/parents/whoever trying to engineer the move a la AOC which I found quite distasteful. He obviously appreciates his time at Saints and looks back on it fondly, and seems a genuinely nice and level headed lad. He has the talent to be one of the very best players in the world (if he's not already) and I sincerely wish him all the best for his future. Always enjoy watching him play.

spot on. What happened to him?

Great guy as were Theo and Oxo. Nice to see these former players showing love and respect for the club that did so much for setting them on the road to the big time.

Didn't notice anyone mentioning that Michael Wilde was Bale's sponsor for a number of years. Was wondering if Michael still sponsors players or has any involvement still with Gareth Bale

Have to say it was great watching him play, just a shame we were not in a great position at the time otherwise i think he would of stayed with us in the championship for another season, all though he would probs still be a LB.

was pretty disappointed that some of those sat around me booed him quite a bit.

certainly didn't around me. Gave him a bit of stick at the end when he was taking his time over the late corners but that was about it.

not many, just a few when he came to take a corner right in front of us, probably about 60th minute or so. Also got the joker making monkey sounds and pulling his ears.
