Neo-Cons and the religious right

Just watching a documentary on religion and politics in the US on PBS which is quite interesting although fairly superficial. It got me wondering though if anyone knows if there is a natural link between the free market neonservatives (Friedman and the chicago boys) and the christian far right? The documentary seems to suggest there isn't and that it's more a marriage of convenience which makes sense. Anyway, I just find it interesting - would like to know if anyone has any thoughts or recommendations on further reading.

 

BTW I'm not trying to make any point on politics or religion at all.

A lot of the Chicago lot have freely admitted they dont believe in Christianity. The connection is that they want to make the government as small as possible. No benefits, no free medicare etc etc and they assume religious organisations will mop up the poor who fall through the safety net.

American Fascists by Chris Hedges is a good primer. Although a lot of it is admitted by Friedman and his cohorts in thier books if you can be bothered to read them.

Another lot of nutters are the Christian Zionists who are really dangerous.They believe in supporting Israel merely because the Third World War will start there and will lead to to the second coming of Christ.

I ****ing hate Israel they have a massive arsenal of nuclear weapons yet all Iran want to do is start up a basic nuclear programs and sanctions and worse are imposed on them. Wheres the pre-emptive strike on Israels nuclear facilities ?

I mean how the hell did they get away with that ? Can you imagine if Iran had launched a pre-emptive bombing on another country. The US would have invaded no question. Im no supporter of Arab terrorism but you can see why they get ****ed off with Western Hypocrisy.

Or they might not have done it and the Islamic Sudanese are blaming the Israelis as they are easily blameable if you are an Islamic nation.
