Leeds 3 Saints 0

Its a game of football though, and a game we could win to help our morale. If we lose it, it's just another loss in this very sorry season. What would it be? something like 8 defeats in 12 games or something? Horrific.

Winning this game won't make us any better in the league, nor will losing it. This is not our first XI, so it's irrelevant how they do tonight. If anything the starting XI tonight is correct, in that these players playing tonight are the XI that should be busting their arses off to break into the 1st XI. They aren't doing that so far. The only morale that will truly be dented tonight is that of us fans.

Hammer,nail,hit......my word it took an age for you lot to realise.

aplology accepted....;)

You've not been proven right though have you?

You said he'd lost the dressing room in L1, you said he'd be lost in the CCC. You said he'd be outmanaged all year in the CCC.

But you were wrong. He had a hugely successful 2 years with us and didn't put a foot wrong.

This year is slightly different, and due to limitations in the squad as well as odd tinkering it's not quite working. But it doesn't justify your opinion from 2 years ago.

We will be beggings Redknapp to return in a few weeks...... Clever ploy from NC?

I honestly couldnt see him coming once he had spoken to NC. HR wants to run the team , choose the players, choose the tactics etc decide who goes. I really get a feeling of Lowe at the moment.

I don't believe that. It's the whole squad, it's the culture in the club. At the end of the day it's another game with SFC and a big fat L against it, unless we turn it around. Losing it benefits no one.

Sounds like we've continuously hit it long to him as well, which isn't a clever tactic.

Yeah, he's one of the shortest players in the team he is won't be winning many hoofs up the park. He needs it into feet as he has shown in his previous cameos that he can ride a challenge and hold onto it. Perhaps then our midfield would have a bit of time to get forward in support.

Some simply amazing reactions on here tonight. If we had truly wanted to win this tie we would have packed the team with Sunday's starters.

As it happened we wanted to give a run-out to some fringe and emerging players, some might have to accept that this could mean a loss.

It would be exactly the same folk moaning like buggery if Lallana or Rickie did a hamstring in a 'needless fixture'.

No it wouldn't some of us would like to actually challenge for a trophy and GIVE IT A GO this is just like palace last year could see it coming a mile off when that team was announced.

I doubt very much that people are questioning his ability based on this result in isolation.

Correct. To imply that people want him out becasue of this game is way off the mark.

It's not like we are stuck for reasons is it? Every week goes by the damage seems to get worse and worse.

I'd be amazed if he was still SFC Manager by the end of November.

Totally with you.

Pardew was banging on about winning mentality from day one he walked into the club. He always said that a losing mentality is too easy for the players. They accept defeat and arent too worried about it as they are getting paid at the end of the day. He always put out a near enough first XI team for every game to get the team winning and used to winning. Winning becomes a habit and he set the foundations for 2 extremely successful winning seasons.

A win breeds confidence, exactly what we need in our current situation. A win would've been invaluable tonight at such a tough place to go.

Another defeat and the players become accustomed to it. They begin to accept "we aren't good enough" and no matter who plays, the whole club will slump and once you are in a losing habit, it is a pig to get out of.

Well I forget where I read it today (NewsNow?) but apparently the morale in the squad is good despite recent poor form. I don't see how a cup defeat with a reserve team could dent that. These are professional footballers who get paid a fortune to be the best they can be. It's their quality, not their morale that will dictate future results, and as we've seen we lack Premier League quality.

Anywho this game's not over yet. I believe even with the reserves our attacking forces are good.

Lets be honest we really dont know what Redknapp wants or how NC behaves.

True.......maybe its L Reed?? One thing is for sure though is that we are no where near the team of last year. Not even close. Man city gave me so much hope. Ever since we have been shocking. Villa was definitely a fluke.

Exactly. So why are some so goddamn effin surprised?! Be angry that you felt we should be going all out to win a trophy by all means but don't act surprised about it. If Cork hadn't been out for so long and Ramirez recently got injured one or two more first teamers may have been risked but given the current situation, wrapping most of our first team in cotton wool is a good thing.

The team, fans and manager seem very low on confidence..... I expected us to lose tonight and i expect us to lose against WBA!

Thats worrying

Villa wasn't a fluke, it was the only game so far where we've had our real 1st team out. Other than that someone's always been missing and even then I'm not sure that S Davis would start in front of a fit Cork despite the shirt number shenanigans.

For all the usual happy-clappy suspects, WHY are we playing a "reserve" side, when to be perfectly frank the first XI need all the practice, all the help, all the confidence-building, all the opportunity to practice the system expected of them and all the opportunity get used to playing alongside each other that they can get.

I really dont get the club strategy, phillosophy and direction at the moment. For me the club resembles a headless chicken or a ship with no-one at the helm. :(
