I haven't said that. Hypothetically if I was offered to win the league cup and go down or to lose to Leeds and stay up, I'd pick winning something. Who remembers you for finishing 17th in the Prem? No one. Our honours list is embarrassingly small and it's one of the only things Pompey have over us.

Agreed. By the way do Pompey have anything else over us? Apart from having the best fans in the world of course

dont understand why teams and supporters dont want to win every competition they enter? Yes Premiership is where the money is and we really could do with staying there but surely winning this would be a good bonus with a spot in Europe (where you get to play some big teams these days). Unfortunatly money talks in football these days. Shame its becoming a pointless cup and might as well not really have prem teams in it.

Yep, I just don't get it

Teams always used to play 3 competitions and not die of over-exertion. Can't imagine Channon, Case, Moran, etc saying give me a rest, I played on Saturday (showing my age now).

If you're in europe too then maybe, but there's no reason for us to do anything other than try and win every match.

Fringe players already get more opportunity than they used to because you can use 3 from 7 subs instead of 1 from 1, so I don't see that as a reason to play a reserve team either

I think the back 5 that will play WBA should play against Leeds. The more game time or them, the better.

Too much of a risk for injuries or cards, especially against dirty Leeds.

I'm sure I saw Guly tonight on the 6.35 train from Waterloo back to Southampton which suggests he aint playing tomorrow.

I hope you booed him and shouted obscenities in his direction like all good saints fans should

Loved the boos and heckles as Guly came on on Sunday, really warmed my heart. Brought a tear of joy to my eye to hear such brilliant Saints fans.

Then Guly played well and most of them shut the f*ck up.

As strong a team as possible for me. Would love to win a trophy. We have a week until our next game. The team needs to get back in the winning habit and build some confidence.

Posted

We should play a strong team, would be nice to get a convincing win and give the players a bit of confidence for the weekend. Can't imagine fielding a weaker team, and possibly losing would do us any good. Leeds will be Leeds and expect a hard, physical game.

I don't give a damn about this game, Prem Points are the key FFS

That's silly. We now have one of the largest squads with plenty of talented up and coming footballers who will want to prove themselves. And it should be an exciting game. We have nothing to lose if they gain good experience. A win would be a bonus.

But we should rest our key players for the Prem games if that is what you mean.

Would also like to see us with the same back four as Saturday as even the players have pointed out that they're still getting used to playing together.

K.Davis

Clyne Yoshida Fonte Fox

Guly Chaplow Cork JWP

Mayuka Lee

I'd rather win the league cup and go down than not win it stay up. Bearing that in mind and the fact that we don't have a game for 6 days after, I think we should play our best available team.

madness! Especially given the rise in prize monies next season

Money goes up, wages go up, fees go up. Still the same viscous circle that wont likely see club profits improve.

Winning a trophy will be long remembered compared to staying up and receiving more money.

Posted
to be honest, we really need to win this. If we carry on losing games then it will be a rot which will become impossible to get out of.

This. Winning breeds confidence and gives everyone a lift, no matter what the competition. Leeds away midweek is tough anyway

There is more to football than how much money your club is able to pull in. Bad enough the people that run our game are obsessed by cash, even sadder when fans start to follow suit.

Well. Considering falling out of them prem nearly killed the club last time.... No wonder fans are worried

It was the reckless spending trying to get back to the prem that nearly killed us.

BBC Radio Solent's Adam Blackmore:

I believe the Artur Boruc bottle incident at the Chapel End on Sunday is being taken pretty seriously by #saintsfc - doubt he'll be at Leeds

So we'll only have one senior keeper up there?
Posted

Simon Peach reporting that Saints statement to the press says that the incident involving Boruc is being investigated and severe sanctions are now being considered.

Boruc will be given a decision on his future at Saints before the end of the week.

Peach's Tweets:

#SaintsFC investigating Artur Boruc incident on Sunday. Decision expected before the week is out. Severe sanctions are being considered.

Could this be the last we see of Boruc at #SaintsFC? Club statement says they are taking the allegations "extremely seriously".

Boruc allegedly threw a bottle at home fans & swore at them on what was his home debut for #SaintsFC.

yep......going out oft he prem....cost us millions..if you cant see that....

Who said it didn't cost us money? The amount of time you spend on here, I thought you would have mastered the ability to comprehend other's posts.

you asked or questioned why fans etc are so obssessed with the financial side of the game.......hence why I said that the last time we bowed out of the prem, we nearly went bust.......with the relegation being a massive factor

Falling out of the Prem didn't 'nearly kill' us as you said. On obsession of getting back into the Prem at all costs did.

Would like to see this line up tonight:

--------------- Boruc* ------------

Clyne ---- Hooiveld ---- Seaborne ---- Reeves

----------- Cork ------- JWP ------------

De Ridder ------ Guly -------- Lee

-------------- Mayuka -------------

Subs: Davis, Chaplow, Yoshida, Shaw, Lallana, Rodriquez, Chambers or Moore

* Boruc to play to get more match fit, however depending on the ''bottle incident'', if the club decide to take action against Boruc then have Gazzaniga play.

Posted

With Boruc 'under investigation' and Gazza allegedly off to Bristol City (tribal football is the only source I've seen reporting this) maybe its a chance for Davis to get match fit.

Davis

Clyne Jos Stephens Reeves

Schneiderlin

Cork Chaplow

Guly JRod Mayuka

Subs Any keeper we have left, Butterfield, Seabourne, De Ridder, Lee

Posted
Would definitely give Morgan a rest. We're f*cked if he gets injured or sent off.

Fair point. And I did not have JWP in there so maybe switch the two from my line up and use Cork as the defensve holding midfielder

Posted
@officialsaints: Saints team: K. Davis, Butterfield, Hooiveld ©, Seaborne, Reeves, Ward-Prowse, Chaplow, Guly, De Ridder, Mayuka, Lee. #saintsfc

We'll be overrun in midfield with that line up. A defeat tonight I think.

Posted

@officialsaints: Leeds team: Ashdown, Peltier, Lees, Pearce, White, Byram, Austin, Brown, Tonge, Varney, Diouf. #saintsfc

@officialsaints: Leeds substitutes: Kenny (GK), Drury, Green, Becchio, Pugh, Norris, Gray. #saintsfc

If we were playing in the Championship this season, which line-up would you prefer...?

K. Davis, Butterfield, Hooiveld, Seaborne, Reeves, Ward-Prowse, Chaplow, Guly, De Ridder, Mayuka, Lee

Ashdown, Peltier, Lees, Pearce, White, Byram, Austin, Brown, Tonge, Varney, Diouf

The Saints lineup still has a lot of Championship experience and with Mayuka and Tadanari Lee some good international experience.

Posted

Well that's that then :(

Not alot of respect shown to the uber Saints fans who are making the trip up to the dirty north.

I had a ticket but my two petrol buddies dropped out so I didn't go as it would have cost me over a ton... looks like a sensible decision although I have now matched one of the plastic fan criteria. Bugger 47 years of watching Saints blown.

That's a reserve side with knobs on, probably win 5 - 4 now

Posted

Not a great deal of tracking back in that lineup.

Delighted to see Lee start; glad Mayuka has a go from the off too.

There's some pace there.

Posted

Eh, Seaborne and De Ridder being in the team doesn't inspire confidence but on the whole that side should be able to make a game of it.

Interesting to see how Reeves as a LB and Mayuka do over 90 minutes, good to see Lee back too.
