They never cut us open like other teams have so far. we werer...we gave up the middle of the park...it was an embarrassment in the 1st half....they had all the time they needed....we are too open and as such, we dont make ourselves difficult to beat.. our two in the middle were getting pulled all over the place, which has a knock on effect
Dig Dig Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Didn't see the game today. From reading the match thread I came to the conclusion that the players are no longer playing for Adkins but then I changed my mind after reading some comments in the 2nd half. Saint Martini Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Well, we got to see our relegation team and our mid-table team all in one match. I missed the first half so I only saw the mid-table team. We were much better when we changed to our regular formation (4-2-3-1). Not sure if this was down to Mayuka playing better then Puncheon or if it was down to the system but we got a flow in our game we didn't have before. A real shame we couldn't get that second goal, I think we deserved it on our second half performance (especially the last 30 mins) but on the other hand I understood from the "experts" on Viasat that our first 45 were so bad we were lucky not to be down by 3 or 4. I look forward to the WBA match. If we play to our strenghts (an attacking passing game) then we should be able to get a win. If we play scared and back off then were fooked. suewhistle Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 I turned up at half time to watch a stream as I was playing footie earlier, and based on the second half we occasionally lacked a bit of concentration but had plenty of possession, chances and were easily the match of Spurs. If only we could do it for 90 minutes... It'll be good to have Cork and Ramirez back: we haven't got the strength in depth to ignore their absence. Stepgar Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Very lucky not be out if sight in the first half. No one person came out of that half with any credit. Second half so much better we seem to want the ball more challenge more, track more. Maybe unlucky not to score the second goal. Still fear that we are god awful when under real pressure and Boric - will you please ****ing grow a pair. You scared ****less to come out and claim a ball. westmidlandsaint Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 my summary ........... First 60 mins = **** Last 30 mins = Quite good Mayuka added a spark when he came on would like him to start v west brom. Cant wait for Ramirez, Lee and Cork to return. If we can get through to January and still be in touch with the addition of a new CB or 2, a LB and poss a out and out #1 we'd be ok

Saint Without a Halo Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Another in the list of gallant defeats we have too many of these, another comical goal against (the 2nd) and another game where we had a good and a bad half to add to Everton, Westham, Arsenal, Villa etc Didn't think much of davis today he had a poor match gave the ball away more often than not! Hope Cork is fit soon, we finally cut out comical goals against and we learn to play for 90 mins before time runs out on us!
Saint 76er Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Keystone cops defending again. Will we stop gifting teams goals? Will the second half gloss over our problems? Will it buy Nige more time? Will Cortese have watched the first half and decide he must do something? One way or another we must start picking up some points and SOON ... ollysaints1 Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Bale's header for 1-0 was literally one of the least threatening situations i've ever seen us concede from, all Huddlestone did was chip the ball up, Clyne was'nt even looking where Bale was. max_saints Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 refreshing 2nd half where it almost looked like we would nick a point! mayuka looked lively and should start the next game ahead of punch. IMO boruc looks slow and indecisive, drop him for gazza plus start mayuka ahead of punch. these two changes and we should be good for at least a point against WBA. the only other trouble player being fox who yet again fails to track back when he goes forward... I don't know why he doesn't learn and insists on doing this every other match but really we have no other options but to stick with him and get yoshi to back him up as was the case today. See how, and if the club deal with it. Boruc came with a reputation of being a 'controversial character' so NA is responsible for putting that clown in goal, not only is he an awful keeper but now he has upset the fan base but I wasn't referring to boruc being the reason for the nail in the coffin,I meant losing the game was. doggface Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 **** poor 1st half, better in the 2nd - could have nicked a point. Mayuka did well, change of shape really helped. Nil point though as expected... Not good enough. Lacking a bit of fight and mentally brittle, we are too soft need to be nastier. I love what nige has done last 2 years but out of his depth IMO for the following reasons, total opposite to last year.... No idea of his best formation no idea of his best team crazy subs at times team is too soft Weeks and months to do it but cannot plug this defence. We seem lost and desperate IMO

Under Weststand Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Awful first half, comical defending cost us again. I fail to see once again why Gazza has been dropped for Boruc? Good second half performance high tempo, Mayuka made a big difference & must start from now on. Why can't we put in a full shift? The likes of Norwich, Swansea Wigan go at it for the full game. We are only managing one good half each week at best. Surely can't be fitness issue this early in the season.

Winchester Red Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Again, I don't get the subs I think it goes something like..... scotty Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Only saw the last 20 minutes and thought we looked terrific. I have been informed, though, that "we were utter shyte in the first half". fwiw, I thought Mayuka was very impressive indeed, and that we looked odds-on to equalise towards the end. Mayuka seems to have a lot more to his game than Puncheon, I'd like to know why he isn't starting. Yoshida looked solid as well, made a couple of excellent tackles in the brief part I saw. Positives: something to build on when we get our walking wounded back. And I dont think many of us expected points from this game anyway, judging by the buildup thread. Negatives: no points, and still in the bottom 3.
red&white56 Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 Shocking first half - Spurs deserved their lead and were making us look like a bit sily. Much better second half, but we gave ourselves too much to do. There's always talk about the "rub of the green", and teams that get relegated don't have it. Their second goal illustrated their rub of the green and our lack of it. Jose gets back, dramtically clears off the line only for the ball to go to the only Spurs player in the vicinity, and not to one of many Saints players. itchen Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 First half we were awful. I don't normally single out players but Boruc was dreadful. Quite how he is preferred to Gazza or Kelvyn is a mystery. Second half we could easily have won if two of the many shots we had had been on target. I don't know what Adkins said at half time but I wish he'd said it before kick-off.

70's Mike Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 ****e defending on 2 occasions in first half, much better 2nd. Need to string together a 90+ mins performance almost agree but it is not the defenders who were watching spuds midfild/defenders run 40 yards for a pass, imo biggest problem is mid field players who cannot defend or sense danger
kpturner Posted 28 October, 2012 Share Posted 28 October, 2012 I don't normally single out players but Boruc was dreadful...Why?
