West Brom v Saints build up

Cheese on Toast

This is a very winnable game. They've had a dolly up start and are punching well above their weight. We've had a tough start and have a lot more to offer than many on here think. Hope we really stuff the Pompey loving tea baggers. Might be a game to improve the goal difference a bit too, as their defence isn't up to much.

Thats the spirit. Was going to say its bit early in the morning to be on the lash, but given your time zone, perhaps you have just finished. Fair play

While I think we'll lose this, I still don't think Adkins will be sacked. Somehow I get the feeling that NC will stay resolute to spite the journo's and other detractors. If that's the case, it's a pretty significant turning point in the club's more recent history in relation to strategy and for me, even though it's not a nice feeling losing game after game, that alone has to be applauded.

I think Cortese will do what he thinks is best for the club, whether that is keeping the manager or not.

Big ask for Cork to come in and play his first game of the season and start. If he's ready then excellent, but bit of a gamble.

get an hour from him and Ramirez....hopefully.....or at least Ramirez with maybt JWP starting with cork coming on for him

I do hope we drop the one in the hole...especially away from home..

I just worry that if we start with 3 defensive midfielders, then they'll just be a huge gap between them and the striker, whether thats Rickie or J-Rod. All 3 of them like to play just infront of the back 4, which is fine, but we can't let our striker become isolated or we'll have no out ball.

We have recognise that we are a poor side that will leak goals. If Ramirez is playing, we at least have some form of chance.

-----------Gazzaniga------------

Clyne---Fonte---Yoshida---ABFox

Cork---Morgan--Ramirez--Davis--Lallana

---------------Mayuka---------------

I don't see much in the goalies, but Gazzaniga could easily put Mayuka in on goal. Over loading the midfield should give us some control and defensive ability but expect a lot from Lallana, Ramirez and Mayuka to do something at the other end. Even if this was employed and was hanging on, I would fully expect Adkins to blink first and open us up by committing further forward. I expect the effect of having Ramirez back will be such that Adkins believes we can take it to teams. We can''t, just not good enough even with Ramirez and it will be the same old story.

Need 3 CM's that will help cover the flanks much better and it's something we have not tried and with the 4231 formation not working we need to test something else out. Both attacking mids of course have a free role to go wide when they feel. I feel we have too many attacking minded players playing always, lambo and JRod both strikers but only 1 striker spot? lallana, punch and Ramirez or Guly it all weakens the midfield which in turn weakens the defence. Why Jwp? our midfield at the start of the season was far better when Davis was not fully fit.

No it wasn't, Davis has been good for us, not incredible, but pretty solid and barely gives the ball away. If you sat and watched him you'd appreciate him much more.

I took from the interview that Gaston would play but Cork may only make the bench.

So it'll be something like the following I think:

---------------Boruc----------------

Clyne-----Fonte-----Maya------Fox-

------Schneiderlin----Davis----------

--------------Ramirez---------------

Lallana--------------------Rodriguez

--------------Lambert---------------

Subs: Davis, Hooiveld, Cork, JWP, Puncheon, Mayuka, Lee

If Ramirez is back this will probably be about right. May be Puncheon instead of Rodriguez though.

Yep! Davis is that player I am still ecstatic we signed, the one player I really wanted from Rangers falling apart like a house of damp cards. His only disappointment is he hasn't scored that many, which is the same as Cork last year really. Other than that he has been a key player and an essential part to our midfield this season.

Nope no more Puncheon never! Hopefully Adkins sees he is useless and relegates him to the reserves where he belongs.

Who gives a fook

Also played that position for Young Boys.

I'm sure some people on this fine forum might give a fook delldays otherwise they might have to only rely on your expert assumption that he can't play up front on his own......when he clearly can

I would rather we didn't play 4-2-3-1. Too many gaps behind the full-backs for the opposition to exploit. It doesn't make the most of Lallana's considerable attacking talents.

Play 3 out and out solid midfielders in front of the back 4. Cork, Morgan and Davis, all ball-winners, all decent passers. If Cork isn't ready for 90 mins, let him share the game time with JWP.

We're leaking 3 a game, the defence needs help.

With Ramirez back, the number 10 role is as good as his. If he's ready to start, bring him in and put Lallana back out wide. We're not going to become solid defensively in the next 48 hours, so we need to score goals. Whether it's Ramirez or Lallana, we need someone between the lines to link Central midfield with the front 3. With a tight 3, there's a risk of it going flat and not going anywhere with the ball. Then we give the ball away and leak goals. We're not going to sort ourselves out defensively by packing the team full of defenders

One thing Davis isn't is a ball winner.

Midfield 3 of Cork and Schneiderlin to sit and hold - protecting the centre backs and full backs - with Lallana to carry the ball forward and run at the opposition for me

Then Mayuka on the right to add some much needed pace out wide and Ramirez on the left with Rodriguez up front for his pace and movement
