Holloway on Matt Phillips

For those of you with Saints Player listen to Holloway's pre match interview before they play Brighton today.

Absolute rant about his current situation with potential job offers, his poor Blackpool contract and the difficulty working with Karl Oyston who makes Cortese seem easy to deal with.

He basically admitted that they should have sold Phillips to us, that they have always told their players if they play well and get a better opportunity they will let them go. He said Phillips was calling him every five mins asking to go and that it has been hard to motivate him after his Chairman told them Phillips couldn't go. He said Oyston is a bastard to deal with and had not answered any of our calls which ****ed off Phillips. He said it had a big impact on other players in the squad and they probably didn't get that situation right.

That's just one part of a mental interview that's well worth a watch.

Oh look another transfer deal I called absolutely spot on at the time. I'm sure those I PMd at the time will confirm this is exactly what I said happened.

Just remember this everytime people mock me for reporting stuff I hear.

i thought holloway was against him joining us...the way he went on about it at the time...

Check your PMs Jamie. As I said, the tapping up allegation was nothing to do with us, the player wants the move and the chairman is p*ssing about. And remember it next time you make a snidey comment at me saying that I'd heard something.

I know..remember the PM...believe it not..phillips would suit directly the 433 what we are trying to do...

I am sure somehwere he (holloway) mentioned us..??

Yep, he'd be perfect. Maybe in January??

He went off on one at the time and accused us of tapping Phililips up.

This.

Also, who cares what Holloway thinks? He says nothing but bad things about us, and yet when he was unemployed and we were looking for a manager, he said he'd love to be our boss.

He's a complete tool.

Jamie wants him if Adkins gets sacked.

If we had signed Philips, we would have been yet another attacking player and no more bloody defenders. Scoring goals isn't the problem.

Yep. That would have been around £28M spent on attackers and attacking midfielders and £6M - £7M spent on a higher number of goalkeepers, defenders and defensive midfielders. An even more lopsided transfer approach.

Just shut up and sing the Cortese song. We applaud him and worship him when transfers happen, but when they don't happen it's someone else's fault and not for a lack of trying, that is how spaz boards work.

TBF, don't reckon we would have signed Mayuka if we had got Phillips.

He comes from Italy.

He's lost his cutlery.

Repeat to fade.

do they...?

Yes. One is a winger, one is a striker.

Stretching it a bit. Granted they're not exactly the same but both are pacey forwarded minded players and we don't play with out and out wingers who hug the touchline.

I'd been wanting us to try out Mayuka instead of Puncheon. Given that we're not going to play 442 its the only place he'll likely get given a chance. He came on against West Ham, I wasn't at the game but reports on here said he looked average and out of position. But then I probably shouldn't base my opinions on the cr*p that comes out of this board, I suppose.

Probably shouldn't. He was lively when he came on against Wham, albeit it was brief. Forced the keeper into his first save of the day and sprung the offside trap a couple of times. Actually got behind the opposition which we've failed to do all season.

Think the issue is defensive - dont think NA quite trusts him to track back yet.

Yep, agree with that. Even out of position and from the limited appearances I've seen of him I think he could be a really good addition to the side and a genuine option down the right side. While Ramirez is out, and playing at home, I wouldn't be averse to seeing Mayuka right, Puncheon left and Lallana in the #10 role. Puncheon would arguably offer better defensive support to Fox than Lallana has.

That said; I dread to think what's going to happen tomorrow with Bale and Lennon attacking out full backs. Gulp.
