Boruc

Clyne Fonte Yashida Fox

Schneiderlin

Chaplow Davis Llanna

Mayuka

Lambert

Chaplow to mark Bale head on.

Jay too much of a gamble in this big match.

Mayuka with pace, hungry, around Lambert, we need to win.

This would be my starting line up.

Options to bring on, Punch, Rodrigues, Guly.

Wish Billy Sharp was an option, think we made big mistake there.

Your thoughts please?

We don't have the players to match them. If we get anything out of this game it will be because Adkins is allowed to tactically manage the team without the perpetual mantra of 4-3-3 ringing in his ears. As that will not happen, team selection is in a sense largely irrelevant. Don't be surprised to see JRod on the left wing in other words.

Look out for Bale swapping flanks after about 5 minutes!

We've conceded 24 goals after 8 games, 3 on average per game with 4 defenders. Are you seriously suggesting we could play with 3 against Spurs?

Puncheon definately plays for me.

Gazzaniga

Clyne

Fonte

Yoshida

Fox (it pains to say that really. But we have no other fit fullbacks)

Schneiderlin

Davis

Ward Prowse

Lallana

Lambert

Puncheon

I would start with Rodríguez and Lambert. For our goal at West Ham you could see the determination on Rodríguez face, he is disparate to prove all the knockers wrong. I think the two would work well together, don't know why NA hasn't tried it.

Christ reading this thread you have to wonder if ppl actually watch football. Let alone read the build up thread where this could have gone.

Yes, this is probably the best we could hope for. Would start Boruc - get some stability at the back at the very least.

Some of these teams are hilarious - mainly for two reasons:

1. Adkins clearly said we are going to play 4-3-3, and then people set up the team in other wacky formations that we have never tried.

2. Chaplow - was a fringe player end of last season, and somehow lots of people think he could suddenly do man marking jobs (he has played his career as an attacking midfielder). With the midfielders we have available it would be worrying to see him start the match.

3. Suprise about Boruc in goal - clearly he needs games, clearly he is the best and most experienced at a decent level of all our keepers - not such a suprise.

For me:

-------------------------Boruc------------------------

Clyne-----------Fonte---------------Maya----------Fox

---------------Schneiderlin------Davis---------------

--------------------------Lallana---------------------

Puncheon----------------------------------------Mayuka

------------------------Lambert---------------------------

Clearly if gaston is fit he plays - in for Mayuka, with Lallana moving wide and Gaston at the no 10.

Yep, 5 defenders in team be it clyne and shaw giving us attacking options, 3 centre backs (most teams now play with one striker so if at present our two centre backs cant handle the movement of 1 striker then lets play 3 of them.

Morgan in front of the back 3 covering from side to side and starting the play, Davis covering a lot of ground which is what he does best and lallana making things happen in the final third with the pace of Mayuka given their 2 centre backs problems in behind and rickie giving them problems physically

Really easy

Gazza

Clyne, Fonte, Yoshi, Fox (if fit, Shaw if not)

Puncheon, Morgan, Davis, Lallana

Jay Rod, Rickie.

Old fashioned 4-4-2.

Yep they have loads of great attacking players, but why not give them something to worry about? They wont want to manage Rickie & Jay Rod's physical talents. The time for beign defensive is gone...............ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK!!!!!!!!

They have a soft under belly.............................

WTF is wrong with some people. CHAPLOW ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!

It's incredible, people complain about having too many championship standard players but then think Chaplow is the answer to our troubles. Madness

Trouble is nothing much else seems to be working.

Chaplow to man mark Bale is definitely the funniest thing I have read on here in ages.

I would love to see Mayuka get a game to see what he is all about.

If, in this thread, we need to stick to the team selection policy then why are you even bothering to pick a team. Nigel picks the teams.

We are discussing what team to play vs Spurs should be. So we might as well at least pick that team in the same formation we know we are going to play - otherwise the discussion is surely a bit pointless?

The point is to discuss the players we would have in the team - those players will line up in a 4-3-3 variation.

All these 5-3-2 formations are not worth writing down as they won't happen. Might as well start picking teams with Chaplow to man mark if we are going to play fantasy football.

Was thinking the same thing. If our answer to losing every week is to stick him in we might as well start looking at the Championship now. Running around doesn't make a player. He's just not very good, all IMHO of course!

Great idea. Leave Bale and Lennon acres of space to run into behind the full backs.

Which they will get anyway, so with 3 centre backs and a defensive midfielder sweeping across from left to right as well as maybe worrying them with our full backs going forward, it may be a way to minimise the effect of bale and lennon. If there is such a way of minimising Bales threat

does not work like that....our CBs will get pulled left then right as they play very wide..leaving gaping holes for dempsey, suggurdson and defoe to exploit...and they will

Adkins can say we're playing 4-3-3 all he likes (as can you), but anybody with an ounce of tactical knowledge will be able to see that we've mostly been lining up as 4-2-3-1 at St. Mary's (as many others have used in this thread when selecting a team), with the middle of the 3 playing in an advanced role bridging the gap to the striker.

Also while we're picking people up on irrelevant errors in a hypothetical thread, you listed three reasons after stating you had two to make.

Yep, Defoe, Dempsey and Sigardson would love to play in the holes left from our centre backs being all over the place. If we played that formation we'll lose about 8-0.

The way you've suggested is not it. FACT

So nobody bothered listening to NA last week with his statement that we play 4-3-3 and will continue to do so.

It's all about entertaining the fans apparently, Sorry Nige but I could go a shabby 1-0 win without being enterained in the least bit.

We have gone too far down the route to turn back now! We play football, we play the new standard formation 4-3-3 and Adkins isn't going to turn his back on that just because we lost (quite)a few games.

Anyway we haven't got the players to grind out a 1-0 win so what's the point in setting up with that in mind?

Enjoy the ride!

It does and it can work like that, requires shape and discipline but with that it can work

And you would know that how ?. And unless you are Jose Mourinho or some master tactician do not state FACT to me
