Aren't you just assuming that the EU are involved - I've not seen it mentioned in any reports. Given that Turkey isn't even in the EU it would seem unlikely.

Turkey has been an associate member of the European Union and its predecessors since 1963 and has special deals has a preferred tradeing partner in eu and is still waiting for full membership to the eu .

Pirelli (Eastleigh)

Harris (Bacon factory, Eastleigh)

British Rail Engineering (Eastleigh works)

T.K. Fielder (Chandlers Ford - almost gone)

Rover Group (Oxford)

Ford

GKN Automotive (Eastleigh)

We're a right couple of jinxes between us!

Warner Lambert?? up Eastleigh way??

Remember all of the above on my list plus WL taking part in an It's a Knockout up at Delcos ground, with all the props and challenge things (inc huge swimming pools, frames, carousels etc) having been built by the various apprentices of those companies in their respective workshops.

Was a fantastic day, with thousands coming to watch. A real community spirit, unthinkable now.

You said it, community spirit is so sadly missing these days. As an offshoot, Eastleigh Carnival used to be packed with floats from Pirelli, Caustons, Railway, Hudnuts (Warner Lambert) etc.

This year it was almost cancelled due to lack of support.

Back to the subject now, British Industry has fallen foul of the drive to the bottom line in production costs. Having worked in the ford supply chain (Front Axle Assembly) I could relate tales of

poor Turkish workmanship but it would not, now, save the plant because Ford are fully aware of the issue!
