Window Cleaner Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 @SimonPeach: I understand talk of Harry Redknapp returning to #SaintsFC is complete & utter nonsense.” Thank god!!! once again, it is widely recognised that God doesn't do sports. badgerx16 Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 For clarity : When Saggy joined us on 8th December 2004 Saints were 18th in the table, having gained 12 points from 16 games. We finished bottom on 32 points: 20 points from 22 games. Personally I don't think he'll return to the scene of the crime.

stevieg Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 I dont get why the complete hatred for Redknapp....yes there is the pompey link but surely we are big enough to get past that. I dont blame him for us going down, the damage was already done. I blame lowe for most things. No for everything. he is a proven good manager albeit he likes to spend money but do you really think NC would let him run us to the ground, I dont think so. If we stayed up and played good football under him I think there would be a change of attitude towards him. For the record I wand NA to stay.....but if it happened!! S-Clarke Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 I thought we were mid-table ? We were actually 17th, which is why his arrival was met with a fair bit of optimism. Especially with January transfers around the corner. He was poor for us though, and his signings weren't great either.

Cabrone Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 How any Saints fan could say they wouldn't mind him back because he's a decent manager is beyond me. I wouldn't care if he was as good as f*cking Mourinho. He's a twitchy, disloyal Skate c*nt and shouldn't be welcome in the city of Southampton let alone anywhere near our football club. RobM Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 There just haven't been that many / any Prem jobs since he left Spurs though, which was what I meant with my comment... he made comments before about wanting a 'top flight' management job, but there hasn't been any available, so he couldn't have been offered one. Us, QPR and Reading could well provide that first opportunity and he will be the No.1 candidate for all of them.

Big Bad Bob Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 There just haven't been that many / any Prem jobs since he left Spurs though, which was what I meant with my comment... he made comments before about wanting a 'top flight' management job, but there hasn't been any available, so he couldn't have been offered one. Us, QPR and Reading could well provide that first opportunity and he will be the No.1 candidate for all of them. OK, before he left Spurs it was made known that he would likely not be at Spurs much longer. So, in that time frame, we have Liverpool, Villa, Norwich, Swansea and (at a push) Chelsea. I don't remember him being touted for any of those positions. Surely such big clubs would be having his name at the top of their lists??

Window Cleaner Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 weird geographic more likely. Has Harry ever managed north of London ? I think not. Anyway you have to be able to afford Harry nowadays, £10 a week no longer gets the job done. He's probably still on Spurs payroll and wouldn't take any lower offer whilst that sorts itself out. Village Saint Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 The masses will love him as soon as he comes out with "I love this club"," I regret ever leaving", " the fans are the best" etc etc Fwiw, I wouldn't want him back and would stick with NA. With that said, would any of us object to his skills in the transfer market, and Jordan and Bond working with our defence (assuming they all come as a package)? Not this old chestnut. I do'nt know how he cons people into believing it. Harry's transfers deals have lined his own pockets true but they have never benefiited any club he has worked for. Indeed all of them or 'their owners' have gone into administration shortly after he left except Spurs - and one reason for sacking him was a concern about those dealings. He has nothing to offer this club except certain relegation - leaving us stranded in the Champioshipm with over-paid overvalued players AGAIN. Have Bournemouth and West Ham gone into admin shortly after he left? I dont recall this, remind me. As for us, it wasn't Redknapps fault we went into admin, he spent £90k when we got relegated and his only major permenant signing in the PL was Quasie. As for Pompey, are you really putting that at his door and not the fake owners, arms dealers, money launderers and so on? Oh no, its all Redknapss fault, lets ignore the fact that most of the signings he made were sold at a huge profit.
speed demon Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 Yep. Took Spurs into the champions league for the first time ever. Won Pompey their first major honour since the war. Took West Ham to their second highest league position ever. Took Bournemouth into the 2nd flight for the first time ever. A truely sh*t manager with a horrendous record of turning decents sides into mediocre ones. F****** amazes me that people actually believe he is a **** manager. If he came here, got a couple of wins within a few weeks the majority would be saying he's a quality manager.

Kingsland Red Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 Two season tickets on their way to you NC right here if Saggy Chops returns. He lost us when he returned to his spiritual home. I would rather be relegated with NA than have that here. ( No body seems to pick up on the fact NA went up with Scunny; then down; then up again when we took him. That would be good enough for me until we are able to break into the next set of teams, like WBA have managed to do)

Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 Yes. I would not be happy until he was gone. I couldn't have supported an England side managed by him, god knows how I could support a Saints team managed by him. This. I would go to his first game in charge just to let him know how I felt, but after that, no chance.

labibs Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 It's pretty clear that we operate a transfer committee system at the club, with LR in a Director of Football type role. This is not uncommon and used by lots of top clubs, both in England and abroad. Under such a system, whilst the manager will have a large say in selecting the type of player he may want to bring to the club, he will not have complete control. Effectively he is the head coach rather than manager and a vital part in 'the machinery' of the way the club works (for want of a better way to put it.) Given HR's relatively public dislike for such a system (the Woodward debacle etc), why would he want to join a club where he would have to work under these conditions? Particularly as, as others have pointed out, he will surely not be short of offers, given his managerial record?
