Viking Warrior Posted 23 October, 2012 Share Posted 23 October, 2012 Malala Yousafzai, 15, is being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after being attacked by a gunman in Pakistan, and has since received thousands of goodwill messages Just seen this on Sky. It must be a security nightmare, now it has been announced where she is being treated. Given our injured servicemen also treated at selly oak. Not only has this annoucement put them in danger from mad lunatics but also every other patient that is being treated there
bridge too far Posted 23 October, 2012 Share Posted 23 October, 2012 It was announced last week that she was being treated there. There was a security scare when someone tried to get to her, but it turned out it was someone who just wanted to wish her well. The fact that that person was intercepted shows that security measures are in place and working I think.

stu0x Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 Well... not really. I don't have the time or inclination to explain how wrong your understanding is. Suffice to say it is. Do some basic learning about AQ and about the Taliban, at the very least, and you will quickly work out why.
Barney Trubble Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 The area in which the hospital is located has lots of people from her own faith and background. I do not foresee too much of a problem, although there are radicals who come from other parts of Birmingham. I used to teach ESOL not too far away and there were lots of Muslim women who were desperate to attend classes, as they were not allowed to whilst in Pakistan. I know that she'll get a lot of support from the local female community in Birmingham as there are a lot of women who are now confident in speaking out, without fear of reprisal, as they have very good support mechanisms in place these days. http://www.birminghammail.net/news/top-stories/2012/10/23/day-of-action-in-support-of-malala-yousafzai-schoolgirl-shot-by-taliban-97319-32089840/
Viking Warrior Posted 24 October, 2012 Author Share Posted 24 October, 2012 Malala is a rising star ( or was in pakistan ) shame the male taliban cretins tried to destroy her life, Still hopefully she can influence and faciliate a change in ideologies in pakistan from thje UK. She is more deserving of the nobel peace plan than the eu. While I have some concerns for all patients at QE hospital at Selly Oak . I can understand why she is being treated there,. As all servicemen and women are evacuated there with various traumatic injuries, the hopsital is the best in the world at treating such injuries. I know many of my former medical colleagues are working there.
Manuel Posted 26 October, 2012 Share Posted 26 October, 2012 There was a bit about her on the news tonight. A rare good news story. A girl in Pakistan wanting and promoting education, shot by the Taliban who want that sort of behaviour silenced, now in England recovering and continuing with her studies. The story is apparently receiving coverage globally, good.
