Colinjb Posted 23 October, 2012 Share Posted 23 October, 2012 Did extremely well for us until his injury in the Fulham game, any idea how his recovery from injury is going?
Saint Garrett Posted 23 October, 2012 Share Posted 23 October, 2012 Hmmmm...pretty atrocious Vs Everton, and was only good Vs Villa as we had the ball for the majority of the second half.

Either way, I would rather have him at full back then Fox or Yoshida.
Saint Garrett Posted 23 October, 2012 Share Posted 23 October, 2012 Id take Fox everyday of the week over Frazer. If we have a good RB (Clyne), play him at RB not LB. Why would you rather have a RB playing LB ? and then a poor RB playing RB. Might as well atleast have 2 players in their proper positions.

Clyne looked comfortable at left back and Richardson is far better defensively then Fox. As going forward is not an issue I would sacrifice Fox's dead ball delivery and overlapping runs for Clyne and Richardson providing more solid options at full back. Fox's awareness/positioning and marking is not good enough. Richardson is the better defender and Clyne is still capable of reaching his best form at the other full back position. Either way, how's his fitness? Anyone?
S-Clarke Posted 23 October, 2012 Share Posted 23 October, 2012 He looked to have taken quite a knock to the thigh, I think NA mentioned a ''slight'' tear, so he won't be available for a while. He's a solid player, but I wouldn't want to rely on him much this year truth be told. I think we've exceeded quite a few players ability, but he's still decent enough backup for now. Saint Charlie Posted 23 October, 2012 Share Posted 23 October, 2012 This completely, although I would say Clyne looked very good at left back actually - in fact possibly even a little better than at right back. Clyne looked good going forward against a team that had zero threat out wide as they played a narrow formation. He didn't look suited to the left at Everton and has always played RB. No point covering one weakness (Fox) by causing Clyne to become another weakness. It would be an idea if we had another Rb as good as Clyne to come in, but IMO we are in a worse position than anyone thought if he has to shuffle Clyne to LB to simply get the benefits of playing Frazer Richardson. If we had Kyle Walker to come in then maybe, but Richardson - same as Sharp, Hammond etc - isn't a Prem player, never was, never will be.
david in sweden Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 a lot of different opinions already.....I suppose the big question is : Is Richardson also left-footed?... and can he / has he ever.... played LB ? Something to consider whilst he gets fit, surely.

He played quite a few times at LB for Crystal Palace, I would say he is fairly comfortable there but obviously better at right back. However I think as a 'limited' full back richardson will offer more defensive stability than Fox IMO. I think CLyne playing on the left will weaken him more offensively than defensively. I also think it's the best option we have until we can get another left back in.
doggface Posted 24 October, 2012 Share Posted 24 October, 2012 At least Richardson can cross the ball, unlike clyne. Richardson is just like chaplow in that when he plays regular he is solid and when he is not match fit a liability.
