The next permanent manager of SFC

We should keep Adkins. He's a very good manager. What would we do with another manager if we were still the same after another 8 games? Keep the revolving door moving?

Don't disagree. Pointless sacking him unless we are going to bring in an experienced manager who can improve us. I think most who fit the bill won't be able to work with Reed and Cortese either. I personally think Redknapp is probably the best man for the job of establishing us.

Leaving aside his previous stint then yes, he probably is.

I just think his stay here under the current restrictions would be as pointless as his previous stint. He's not a coach, he gets in new players to replace non-performing ones. And then he'd want an input on who we bring in. I've heard more than a couple of people suggest that NA put forward a list of players we should bring in this summer and he got none of them.

Where is the PROOF of this?!!

No, I don't think we will and unless we do i cant see an established proven manager like Redknapp or Bentiez coming here. If all we are going to do is sack Adkins and bring in another rookie it's be a totally pointless excercise.

Personally I'd get rid of Reed, bring in an experienced manager as well and let him build a team that is going to keep us up first and them establish us as a premier league side. Then start worrying about 'the Southampton way' when we aren't trying to do it with players and a manager all in their first season in the premier league.

We will appoint a young foreign manager maybe an ex player.

You think NC will keep NA if we keep losing?? No 'kin chance.

It doesn't matter what any of us think, it come downs to one man's decision.

It's amazing how few people seem to understand that..................Probably 99% of saints fan think Nigel has done a great job so far and is a nice guy. None of that is going to bother NC if he thinks we will get relegated.

You really think that any fans think they have an impact on whether the manager stays or goes?!

Anyone would have to be mental to think this Chairman will do anything other than what he wants, no matter what the opinion of the fans. Alan Pardew being the only example you need.

I think you're failing to distinguish between what people want to happen, and what will actually happen.

Do you genuinely believe that Redknapp is the best man for the job? He does a good job when he has class players at his disposal, can't see anything in his track record that would suggest he could sort out our defensive problems, he's not even really a "coach".

Plus he's a c**t.

I simply cannot see it being Redknapp - not a great fit with Cortese and definitely not a great fit with the fans (which I know Cortese won't give two sh ags about but it does contribute to my feeling that it just isn't going to be him). I'd also question whether HR actually wants to manage another club. He might be enjoying the media work and just hanging about just in case Hodgson blows it.

My current call is either

a) some young foreign manager I haven't heard of - a lower grade AVB type or

b) Alan Curbishley. Curbs is steady, efficient and organised enough to secure us in the division for next season, he has been waiting for the right job and I think this could be it.

Personally I'd go for Curbs because in a team with scant Premier League experience, I think we need a manager who has some. Not the most exciting appointment but then neither was Gordon Strachan.

Yes I do. I look at what he did at Pompey when he went back there and they were a shambles a poor side going down, they'd only won twice in 15 games and he kept them up and then turned them into a decent side. There isn't anyone else realistic and available with as good a CV. We might show fantasic ambtion and go and get a Bentiez but having been manager of champions league clubs his whole career then him coming here is unlikely. Sacking Adkins and bringing another man of a similar type will be pointless. We might as well stick with him unless we bring in an experienced, proven manager and let him do things his way.

I don't like the bloke and as I said, with my saints fan head on then no way, but thinking rationally I can't think of anyone else, unfortunately.

Perhaps we should do something REALLY weird and stick with our current manager. Do the long-term thing a la Alex Ferguson

The problem is now everyone is expecting it and Adkins almost admitted defeat at the weekend by saying he didn't know how long he had left. It seems to be a case of when not if. It's a great shame as I am convinced it's not his fault, he's just the fall guy for the failed transfer window and trying to change too much too quickly without the players and experience in the camp to do it.

Fair enough. I was responding to you what seemed you agreeing to the previous poster who said "It doesn't matter what any of us think, it come downs to one man's decision" and your response of "It's amazing how few people seem to understand that".

Hey ho. We're on the same page.
