Just been sent a copy of Terry Curran's new autobiography (called Regrets of a Maverick) and as he was with us for a season (78-79) and scored the goal (his only one for Saints) that took us to Wembley, there is a couple of chapters on his life at The Dell. However I am not particularly keen on these books because they tend to make it up as they go along and at least the half this book is about his female conquests (yawn). He is very very damning on L Mac however - in fact I would go as far to say he is being very vindictive and there are even one part I can't mention for fear I would get this forum into trouble. Perhaps our ex manager should be shown a copy because he might have a view on one allegation.

Personally I wouldn't waste my money on this hatchet job, but if you are looking for a no holds barred account of what life was like at Southampton FC circa 1978 then flick through it in a book shop. These sort of books are two a penny though.

Scored the goal that took us to Wembely. Dribbled the ball up Frank Clarke's arse at the start of the 2nd half when a square pass to Austin Hasyes would have put us 2 nil up.

He was also very consistent with his crossing, picking out the away section in the Archers road every time.

But he did have nice hair......:uhoh:

Makes me wonder, though, who he thinks is going to be interested in reading about a seventies bit part player who never really cracked it...I can't even remember where he moved to...did he come to us from Huddersfield?

I remeber hom for 2 things the first , his goal that got us to Wembley and the 2nd that Howard kendall played him in the Fa cup 84 semi final that completely nullified Mark Dennis's threat. The worst day in my suporting life

I think Mcmenemy picking the injured Steve Williams had more to do with us losing that game.

The book seems to be called Regrets of ... instead of Death of....

maybe wishful thinking on the OPs part.

and for our younger viewers. this is him.

The goal that he scored to get us to Wembley was the only goal he ever scored for Saints, I liked him as a player but his final ball was his big weakness.

Agree that he was a pretty useless winger

Remember he got sent off at QPR for a hissy fit in which he slapped the opposing full back

Dont recollect he played much after that

Why I typed death I don't know - apologies it should be Regrets. I can't edit it, hopefully a mod will

A typo eh? How ironic.

You don't seem to have a very high opinion of any book not printed by your Commune!

I'm eagerly awaiting your review of the next edition of the Oxford English dictionary. No doubt it will be 'riddled with inaccuracies and plagiarism'.

Funnily enough your thread is nothing more than a plug for the book which no doubt will shift quite a few more copies from people who didn't know it exisited before you brought it up!

Once Bitterne, have you ever heard of authoritarinism personality? I think you should check it out and while doing so try and dislodge that big chip on your shoulder and then try and develop your own rather pathetic personality and not leech of others. Take care.

How's you battle with the publishers of that Mirror book going Dunc? Have you managed to make them make any changes to it?
