Echo story!

Saints have just this morning, tweeted the following statement:

"For clarification, the following statement was issued to the Southern Daily Echo in relation to the story they are running this morning. It has been the Club’s conscious policy for the last three years not to reply to questions or calls for statements from the Daily Echo and this will continue to be Club Policy."

Anyone know what the Echo are on about? Saints don't normally come out on the defensive likes this?

To do with Nigel? Suggested interference? Sale of club?

Or just Saints re-stating their stance?

I do think the club needs to come out and explain a few things. Yes Lowe was always mouthing off, but heard nothing from Cortese for ages. Got some explaining to do.

Training ground

Transfers

Loan

Ownership

And who is picking the formation.

To be honest, I get on the club's/NC's back a bit, but you can't really expect them to explain some of those. The Official Club tweets this morning are weird, really no need for them to say anything and it makes you think Adkins may not have much longer in the role.

I can see why we like to keep things quiet, but there was no statement on promotion which was weird, and lots of stuff has happened which a little statement from the club would have helped the fans understand. Something isn't right.
We do seem to have quite a big media team that doesn't do that much. But what could a club statement say about Adkins?

I know they don't want to give the Echo the time of day but surely this would of been a good opportunity for the club to back Adkins?

Get stuffed on Sunday and he's gone IMO.

But what could the club really say? I agree on your 2nd point though, lose by more than one goal on Sunday and he's gone. Alternatively if we nick a win everything will look very different. Massive game.

Back Adkins or say nothing. Why release a statement saying you have nothing to say. It's weird.

Very hard for a club to back a manager in this situation without it sounding half hearted, no-one can guarantee Adkins will be here at the end of the year or even at Xmas, so it would be very difficult for the club to say anything. Agree they should just say nothing in this instance though, their statement doesn't really help.

Can't see it being Redknapp at all for so many reasons.

Stopped work on the training ground, struggling in the premier league... Could be the club up for sale.

Could be about a new manager. If it is about a new manager and th echo have names then I believe the echo is right. If it is just Adkins is going to be sacked, then rubbish.

I await a story, not just guesswork and hear say.

If the club answered every speculative question they'd never get anything done. And if they did come out and back Adkins then we'd all be saying it was the proverbial kiss of death.

Everything that's been said and written about adkins future is speculative. Nobody knows. If Adkins has doubted his future himself it's purely based on results and what history has shown us, but I'm sure NC would be more than happy for Adkins to turn this around. I don't think NC is itching to get NA out the door, but, at the end of the day he will do what he thinks is right for the future of the club. He doesn't have to answer to the echo, who are more often than not guilty of lazy journalism.

It's not really in any company's interest to reveal all the details of things that go on behind the scenes.

Oh yeah.... I hope he gets a bit longer. Just seems they have asked the question, and we have stuck with the policy of not talking. 1 + 1 = 4 me thinks.
Having an overall and outright policy of not talking to the local paper is pretty petty. Can't remember seeing any other club doing this?

Just a point hasn't pretty much every manager that has received a public statement of confidence from his chairman then got sacked?

Maybe the club have put this non-comment thing out because Nigel isn't going to be sacked and any public statement about it even a positive one will just add fuel to the fire and more speculation?

What do you want hem to say? The same as other clubs, and lie through their teeth, and say he has our full support! Then replace him next week. While he is in the job he will get our full support, up until he I sacked, or he leaves the club.

Saying nothing is as good.

Because in some perverted way Saintsweb readers would interpret that as confirmation he is about to be sacked. Why do people have to play politics. Just enjoy the football.

I don't think they need to explain anything, but this especially is ludicrous. How many times has it already been stated that the club is not for sale?

I have, and the bottom line is, we do not speak or reply to the Echo. Which we have not for years, and we have carried on in this trend. End of thread.

Sir Alex Ferguson didn't speak with the BBC for years.
Yep, only other one I can think of and made him look petty and bitter. Not saying the club and Echo have to be best mates over everything, but in the past the two have got on pretty well, just doesn't do anyone any favours if the club dig their feet in and say "We're never speaking to you again".

No, about 20 posts in you went off on one speculating as to what the "story" was despite it already being at the top of the page. Then you went off on one at me saying "what do you expect the club to say", despite that being my point throughout the thread. But cheers for letting us know we should close the thread.

The Echo reneged on an agreement with the club. The role of the local paper is diminishing, whoever within the The Echo decided to go against the clubs wishes basically cut the papers own throat. The club may look petty but the Echo look very dumb in all of this.
