Ewell Posted 22 October, 2012 Share Posted 22 October, 2012 I am struggling to understand why this lad has been dropped from the starting XI. I do not believe he has done anything wrong and I think we look a better side with him in it. His work rate, commitment, simple passing and ability to keep possession make us look a far better team. The only reason I can possibly see for his omission is Adkins is protecting him whilst we go through this sticky spell. I would definitely start him against Spurs this weekend. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 22 October, 2012 Share Posted 22 October, 2012 I'd go even further if I'm honest and give Shaw a go. Can he be any worse than what our defence has done thusly? Let's face it any points picked up against Spurs are going to be both a surprise and a bonus. May as well give these two a go.
Saint Charlie Posted 22 October, 2012 Share Posted 22 October, 2012 JWP in a central 3 then yes - he was overrun vs Everton in a two. Check out my team in the Spurs thread.

Adkins is more than aware of our problems in defence, he isn't Burley. He knows our problems and the options open to us, if he (and the coaches) have decided that Shaw isn't ready yet then he probably isn't and may well prove more of a liability than Fox or Yoshi. Could it possibly be that he is not on the Reed/Cortese "Cost in excess of £10M" Radar ?? Something is weong at SMS .... why not this ??
S-Clarke Posted 22 October, 2012 Share Posted 22 October, 2012 You need to remember that JWP is a young kid, and throwing him into our current setup probably isn't great for his progression, let's be honest. Great player though he is, I think we've taken him out of the fire for a reason.
shurlock Posted 22 October, 2012 Share Posted 22 October, 2012 Hopefully Cork will be back soon- even Guly could do a job in a midfield 3 (a midfield 2 is a recipe for disaster). He's physically bigger and hard to muscle off the ball, can keep it simple and seems to prefer taking up a deeper position. And yes his work rate is decent. Guly isn't actually 2 bad as a central midfield player, I know people will argue that. I think he's more effective through the middle than he is out wide for instance. But I agree with your sentiment on Cork, I was a big fan of his last year - and even before he came here, I think he'll add a calmness that we sometimes seem to lack. saintbob40 Posted 22 October, 2012 Share Posted 22 October, 2012 JWP isn't ready. Physically he is not developed enough and he is not great out of possession. We miss Cork in a big way.
