Miltonaggro Posted 22 October, 2012 Posted 22 October, 2012 we are more likely to sign Les Dawson. Lol, or indeed Les Dennis, at least he would fit in...
SW11_Saint Posted 22 October, 2012 Posted 22 October, 2012 Turned down QPR because they coudn't match his wages allegedly. If true, unlikely we will be able to. Basically I think he just doesn't want to leave Spurs.
itchen_dan Posted 22 October, 2012 Posted 22 October, 2012 Now the Mirror have got wind of it http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-michael-dawson-1393252
the saint in winchester Posted 22 October, 2012 Posted 22 October, 2012 Can't help feeling if we are hovering around the relegation zone come january we won't look as appealing as we did in the summer to a lot of potential signings... Exactly. NA : "Listen - great bunch of lads - together as one - how would you like to come and help us in our battle against relegation? Come on, we're only 18 points adrift from 17th place." Player - "er, thanks, but no thanks."
LostBoys Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 I cannot see him leaving London for us and QPR could not agree his wages in the summer apparently
ecuk268 Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 The Guardian's somewhat tongue-in-cheek transfer column has him arriving here in January for £1.5m.
labibs Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 The Guardian's somewhat tongue-in-cheek transfer column has him arriving here in January for £1.5m. Small point of pedantry, but it say '1.5m used fivers', which is £7.5m. It's confusingly written to be fair! Would be amazed if we got him (why would he want to come to a side battling relegation / could we afford his likely wages / he would surely have other offers if available), but he would be an excellent signing. Would give him the captainc straight away, let him command the defence and tighten us up a bit.
Delboy Dave Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Wages wages wages. What does the like of Dawson command?
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Exactly. NA : "Listen - great bunch of lads - together as one - how would you like to come and help us in our battle against relegation? Come on, we're only 18 points adrift from 17th place." Player - "er, thanks, but no thanks." He'll probably come on loan then till the end of the season to keep options open for all parties.
Bearsy Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Wages wages wages. What does the like of Dawson command? Supposedly QPR was gonna give him £60k per week. He told them to get stuffed.
Stu Man Do Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 He'll probably come on loan then till the end of the season to keep options open for all parties. Pretty sure it's been mentioned before but I'm sure we can't loan people now we are in the prem.
Appy Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Pretty sure it's been mentioned before but I'm sure we can't loan people now we are in the prem. We can, but not until January.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Is he really any good? doesn't seem to play much at Spurs, a few games last season and bits and bobs this.
Saint_Ash Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Way too good for us according to talksport.
S-Clarke Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Is he really any good? On a different level than any of our CB's, so on that basis he's improve us.
pangy Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Gallas is keeping him out of the spurs team.....says it all really!!!
The Kraken Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Gallas is keeping him out of the spurs team.....says it all really!!! Does it? What does it say? That we should only be looking at centre backs of the calibre of William Gallas? Or better than him?
pangy Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 We should be looking at a cb that will not spend most of the season injured,I cant remember the last time Dawson played a full season without picking up a major injury Gallas has the experience yes but his legs have gone and is past it. I have no idea on who we should get as I doubt any decnt prem CB's will come to us,so we will probably look to Europe for a unproven again
buctootim Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 No view on whether he is any good or not - but £7.5m for a Spurs reject says something about the PL.
Chez Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 3 appearances this season (2 of which were for a minute), 13 appearances last season, 36 the season before, 40 the season before that.
theyin Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 Prone to injury line is bollo x. Would be most happy if he came to SMS as I repeated throughout the summer.
Wes Tender Posted 23 October, 2012 Posted 23 October, 2012 3 appearances this season (2 of which were for a minute), 13 appearances last season, 36 the season before, 40 the season before that. I think that I can see a pattern emerging there. But I'm told that we would be lucky to get him and have him bolstering the numbers in the treatment room. My Spurs supporting brother-in-law says that they would be delighted if we were to take on board their crocked defender and their ex-manager. On the plus side, he didn't gloat about the 4 goals we conceded on Saturday though, for some reason.
Colbury Posted 24 October, 2012 Posted 24 October, 2012 Recently injury prone and lacking the extra yard of pace as a result. He might well be better than our current lot, but that is not to say that we couldn't do better than him, is it? He's hardly made their starting line-up this season, so not currently deemed good enough for Spurs. Yeah if he's not good enough for top 4 chasing spurs he's certainly not good enough for relegation contenders Saints.
Wes Tender Posted 24 October, 2012 Posted 24 October, 2012 Yeah if he's not good enough for top 4 chasing spurs he's certainly not good enough for relegation contenders Saints. Agreed
pangy Posted 24 October, 2012 Posted 24 October, 2012 Not injury prone?? This is from the last 2 seasons? is it a risk we should take for £7.5 mill and £60k a week plus (allegedly) http://www.myfootballfacts.com/MichaelDawson.html
Gambol2K9 Posted 24 October, 2012 Posted 24 October, 2012 He should be starting week in week out for Spurs, too good for us. Be delighted with signing him, just what we need.
Wes Tender Posted 24 October, 2012 Posted 24 October, 2012 http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-match-reports/panathinaikos-1-spurs-1-europa-1361433 We already have players short of pace and capable of defensive blunders. Why add another? I do hope that he plays Sunday though.
Wes Tender Posted 24 October, 2012 Posted 24 October, 2012 GOAL! England 0-1 Hungary (Jagielka/Dawson 62og) Like the man said, this sorry circus is the gift that keeps on giving. The linesman gives a controversial goal that might not have crossed the line, but Hungary deserved the goal anyway for the comical manner in which they eviscerated the England defence. The ball was played through to Gera, who was allowed all the time in the world to hold it up as he waited for team-mates to come up in support. He pinged it right, his team-mate whose name I didn't get drove in a cross, Dawson poked it goalwards and Jagielka's apparently successful attempt to hook it off the line was over-ruled by the linesman. A comedy of errors But we'd be mad not to jump at the chance to have an England International playing for us.
david in sweden Posted 24 October, 2012 Posted 24 October, 2012 of course,.. 'appy ' arry couldn't select Dawson when he was managing at WHL.... because the player spent so much time in the treatment room. mind you...if NA does get the boot .....and 'arry comes back.... (perish the thought).....we're sure to see him as our first signing, regardless of his fitness (or lack of it). whilst I'm writing this . .Is Jamie still able to lace up his boots?......'cos he'd be sure to come along, too .....(there was talk of him starting a coaching career.......back then)
