Saints v Spurs Build Up

Yes he can which is why he subbed Fox at half time against Villa and dropped him. The trouble is, we haven't faired much better since then.

Well the rumour is that Fox isn't injured and he hasn't been near the first team for a while so we have no replacement left back and fox still can't get in the team!

Well then please can you ask around and confirm back exactly what the story was about Garath Bale that went out at around 12:15 today? It's not been mentioned since despite other stories being repeated, but there was a report at 12:15ish about him missing another game so he can spend more time with his partner and newly born child, hence me sharing it on here. It specifically referred to the game against Southampton.

Bet Spurs will like that, a player on 100K a week missing 2 games on paternity leave. Don't know what football is coming to, sounds more and more like the civil service every day.

Bale, Adebayor and Dembele rested to face us - oh crud! If we can lose by less than 2 goals that would not be too bad. Need to ditch all this 433 garbage and get 10 behind the ball, Chaplow in the middle with the skipper's armband and get in their faces. Hit Rickie as early as we can with Mayuka picking up on the second ball. If we try and out-football Spurs I can only conclude that a) our management team are clueless and b) we'll lose by far a margin of far more than 2 goals.

Seriously, I grew up watching Lawrie's teams in the 80s and I'd love for us to play like that in the top flight but we have to face realities and stay in the league first.

After asking around, that story did run so apologies for that, but it was a mistake, they were meant to say he would miss the Maribor game.

 Cheers for confirming rather than just leaving it, appreciated and good detective work. I was starting to think I was going mental as I was so sure I'd heard it!

Erm that's cos they are resting players to tonk us with.

Hardly. Only Friedel, Gallas, and Dempsey (who later came on) didn't start the game against Chelsea! Adebayor not even on the bench today, but it seems from the papers that's more likely due to his sulky attitude than any injury! Could all bode well for the weekend if they're incapable of playing two games within 4 days....

I am, of course, neglecting Mr Bale who may or may not be injured or rested.

All saints fans going Sunday, listen to how Spurs sing "go marching in.." and learn, that's how it's supposed to be sung. Not banging on the backboards of the Northam at 100mph!

And on the pitch, we'll get beat 3-1

Or maybe we should sing to drown out Spurs fans? As I don't particularly want to listen to Spurs fans at any time and certainly not on Sunday. I've never really heard Spurs fans sing that much anyway.

Two key rules for Sunday:

1. Get 100% behind the manager and the team (try and stay patient and positive)

2. Don't get outdone by Spurs with OWT.

Should be a cracking atmosphere!

I agree with your sentiment but...

1: We will...until the first spurs goal goes in.

2: We will...3k of them will do it ten times better and louder than the rest of us inside SMS.

Shame but likely.

The beauty of this game is that almost anything can happen on a football pitch over 90 minutes. However using my head, rather than my heart, I can't see anything else but another defeat in all probability. This is one of those occasions when being proved wrong would be most welcome.

If it's another drubbing - and it may well be - then it'll be interesting to see how St Marys responds to that. I get the feeling that a mood of underlaying discontent is building ......

Spurs team that played last night:

25 Lloris

05 Vertonghen

16 Naughton Booked

28 Walker

33 Caulker

06 Huddlestone

07 Lennon

22 Sigurdsson (Dempsey - 75' )

30 Sandro (Livermore - 84' )

31 Townsend (Falque - 46' )

18 Defoe

5 or 6 First teamers in there so that's good, not so good about Bale and Dembele though.

Good post. I agree, interesting to see crowd reaction. Say we take the lead early in first half, only for spurs to go 2-1 up with say 20 minutes to go. Does the crowd roar the team on to push for an equaliser? Or think 'here we go again' and moan as Adkins takes off Lambert for Guly?

If we get hammered, Adkins could well be in trouble, particularly as I think we'll get turned over away at West Brom on the Monday game next wkd as well. Fixture list / injuries aside, 4 points from 10 games is poor.

Not heard a single thing all week about the team as usual.....

Couldn't we at least have some update on how things are progessing regarding preparation during the week. It wouldn't be unproffesional just courteous to the fans to be spoken to through the media more often.......The niose coming from Southampton FC Limited is deafening. Wake up NC and get your staff taking to their fans or perhaps - God forbid you might have something to say once in a while, other than we have no comment! Come on, engage more and keep our attention!

Jan Vertonghen has been impressed with Southampton – but that’s not stopping him targeting a win at St Mary’s on Sunday.

The in-form defender is looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat against Chelsea, halting our sequence of four straight wins in the Premier League.

Southampton have four points from their eight matches so far on their first season back in the top flight, but performances in high-profile early tests against City and United deserved more than two late defeats - the Saints led in both.

“They have a strong team, I’ve seen them a few times and they play ‘proper’ football,” said Jan. “They really want to play and believe in their own philosophy.

“They score a lot of goals, but concede a lot as well.

“We’ve performed well in our away games, so hopefully it will be the same again on Sunday. We’re confident and we hope we can win to stay at the top of the league.”

@officialsaints: Nigel Adkins: "Training has been good this week. The lads have responded (to last week's loss) in the appropriate manner." #saintsfc

@officialsaints: Nigel: "We're scoring goals so we go into games with belief that we can win, but we need to address the amount we're conceding." #saintsfc

@officialsaints: Adkins says Gast?n Ram?rez, Frazer Richardson and Jack Cork still out injured. Luke Shaw and Danny Fox resumed training today. #saintsfc
